Attention Musicians, Rappers and Singers! RSonic is giving away 2 free home recording studios! Details for the contest is under my Contest video submission. Check it out before Jan. 31st!
my video is sad compare to this :(. but i got 24gig pc >< . Can i come to ur studio ill buy the beer. maby u could show me a thing or two on what to do or have.
Thanks for the vid. Good info man. Quick question I have ableton program and would like to record audio and midi at the same time using Roland fantom. Do you know what's need. Thanks
You don't require much to start making music; this is what I own and end up makin quality material. You can even get gear from ebay and save around 35%:
computer with 4GB ram, HP
sound card, M-Audio Delta 1010LT
MIDI controller, M-Audio Oxygen25
subsidiary MIDI controller, Akai MPD18
condenser microphone, AKG C214 with pop filter
preamp, M-Audio DMP3 (most audio interfaces have that built in; also has phantom power)
Now do you produce the music first and then compose! Like you create the instrumental first, and then the words or do you do it at the same time? whats the easiest?
@DJKRON1 either read your favorite tracks in brail by some traintracks so you can feel that bass pumping out XD , on a serious not my cousins deaf and he just has to feel the vibration of music, but if your being serious here just read the names of the instruments and get someone to tell you what noises are high pitched and witch ones are low and frequency and eq's
@alpunkbrewster A mixer would give you the ability to manage the sound level of your instruments individually, if your recording live, which will give you music better sound. Now I know that most music production software comes with a "So called" mixer built in, but it really doesn't beat a real mixer. (Not in a live recording situation). Now, if your just using program sounds from your production software, the built in mixer is fine. (Personal opinion from experiance. Do whats right for you)
@davidthegreat99 one other thing.I export the mp3 when it starts to sound shitty.and it sounds perfect once its mp3 form..could it b that i got fl studio on crack or is it just my 1 gb ram dosnt work well?
@davidthegreat99 whats a firewire cord? when i make music i dunno wat im doing wrong but when i have alot of sounds and then add sounds from cytrus it starts sounding funny.why is that cud you message me back bro?
We are the top of the line niggas hear 24/7 my nigga!!!!!. "JBL, TASCAM, CASIO, YAMAHA, PEARL, IBANEZ, FENDER, GIBSON, SONY, ROLAND, and more top of the line shit hear my nigga 24/7!!!!!.
His monitors arent placed right. They are supposed to be at ear level three feet apart facing you at a 45 degree angle for proper mix downs. PEOPLE SEEK PROS WHO ARE ACUATALLY DOING IT FOR A LIVING AND NOT SOME JOE SCHMOE BEDROOM WANNA BE PRODUCER.
@musicfloable, It all depends on which DAW you're running. If You're using a large DAW such as ProTools or Cubase than 4GB-8GB is a must. 1GB is fine for those running Cool Edit, REAPER, and the likes.
hey is it good to rap on A Harlan Hogan MXL-VO:1a Studio Condenser Microphone?? im gona buy it off my friend but i wana know if its good to spit vocals on??
@musicflowable 4 to 8 is probably a good idea, especially as cheap as RAM is now-a-days. Do yourself a favor though and don't ever talk to a Best Buy employee for a recommendation.
@musicflowable this just depends on where u r at production-wise. if you r just starting off above 2 gigs of ram will work for a while, but after u start learning all the different production techniques and adding more detail to your songs u will start having more and more tracks that take up cpu.
@TheLiquidBeats different port's but basically do both the same thing.. fire wire ports are on all mac's ( should be) and pc us usb ports.. but its very easy to install a fire card on a pc comp.. i recently done it
Yeah what he said is true. DAW's are all preference. I'm an electronic artist so I use FL studio. You can use Reason or Logic for this too but really its all preference.
very good computer for recording on,my computer has a great sound card, built in fire wire, its made for studio recording its called a HP pavilion a111 8x
1 gigabyte ram reccomentation depends on the operating system. Windows XP, 32 bit will perform well with 512Megabytes, anything after that allows you to run more at once and use more memory intensive programs, Audio creation tends to be somewhat of a memory hog. if you are running windows vista or windows 7 you should have at least 2gigs for the operating system by itself. so that means you are going to have to buy more than that to get performance. 32-bit systems limit 4 gb ram.
i use my room as a studio and looking for some stuff to add, just a little tip if you have tile walls in your bathroom it is very good acoustics to record vocals
the only thing im missing is a sound card i wanted summet like urs but everytime i search for 1 it shows a board for inside computers so thanks for this vid,the only other problem iv got is plug ins (vst) have u got a link to get some for good ones for free

@NightFire201 Yes, a lap top will work as long as it meets a few requirements. CPU speed should range from 2.0Ghz and up for optimal performance. Again, RAM should be at least 1GB, 2GB or more for best results as well as of the fast DDR or DDR2-RAM type. As far as storage space at least 120 GB hard drive with a speed of 7200 or more. I would recommend a CD/DVD reader/writer, as well as an external hard drive to store your work to keep your laptop running smoother.
unlimitless? Did he make that word up? Its either unlimited or limitless, but I have never heard them put together in that way. I had to giggle when i heard that.
This guys so called "Vocal Booth" is terrible, honestly you might as well not have posted it on the wall anyhow those arent built to absorb sound waves at all so...."GET THAT OUT OF YOUR HEAD" hopefully he's upgraded cuase he's not that bad of a singer.
Thanks bro, your video is amazing! Im already working in my home recording studio. I just need my monitors and a MIDI controller. Im working on Mac too with Logic. I personally thing is the best DAW.
Hi Are your monitors too low, could the be mor level with you ears? How about absorbtion and diffusion in your room, it comes across like slightly echoey on the vid but it could be just me. Like that you use Cubase, I do too! Can anyone give me some advice on mulitple in and outs? The M-Audio interface I use is just 2 in 6 out. I want to be aboe to route out to an anologue mixer from Cubase but I'm new and have no clue at the moment! PM Me
When your recording vocals, its the best tool you can have. You hear exactly whats being recoded, and helps you stay in key with the music. I always recorded without them, and after i tried them out, i was amazed at how much easier it was.
@JesusMIXtapes so when your recording vocals you don't get any feedback into the microphone and distort the sound quality. That is why you need good headphones.
@flaxj Good question but its answer is no.I tried hard singing with my dynamic mic but it still records with feedback (In reality, dynamic mic cancels feedback and hence it is used in live shows). And I tried buying and using my new sound card.It worked properly. The reason is b'cuz recording in built in sound card is built only for communication where feedback is okay as said in video. In songs, the sound should be crystal clear. So I and he recommends you to buy a new sound card.
When talking about sound cards too if you are going to be using virtual instruments at all I'd suggest making sure your audio card has ASIO drivers as well.
prtty nice video, but this stuff about the mixer .... don´t get a mixer, why not use the monitoring of your daw or the controlroom mixer to sort out what everybody wants to have on his/her phones/monitors
@drgrules You don't need a mixer unless your recording live sounds such as an entire drum kit snare bass hi hat cymbal tom all indivually with different mics. soundcards are preamps for your microphone and for your monitors and they have drivers for lower latency and better sound qualitty
You should make a note for pc users: Make sure your firewire card has a TI (Texas Instruments) chip! It will save you many many headaches down the road. Same is true with USB interfaces. Also, that Duet would sound WAY better if you didn't run a Behringer mixer into it...
You should make a note for pc users: Make sure your firewire card has a TI (Texas Instruments) chip! It will save you many many headaches down the road. Same is true with USB interfaces.
I rap but i dont have any knowledge on how to record or anything on my computer.. what do i need? i have a pc. i have reason. id like to produce later however right now im just focusing on recording over beats ive already heard.. (cover) HELP YOUTUBE GENIUSES...
@rgar1694 i have just started and not really that experianced but you will need a mic thats compatable USB ones work, but not the best quality your will need a usb interface if you want to use mics with XLR connection, you will also need music software to record over you can youtube free mixcraft 5 software sand it should have a video that will give you links to you free download that should get you started

When talking about sound cards too if you are going to be using virtual instruments at all I'd suggest making sure your audio card has ASIO drivers as well.

prtty nice video, but this stuff about the mixer .... don´t get a mixer, why not use the monitoring of your daw or the controlroom mixer to sort out what everybody wants to have on his/her phones/monitors

how do you hook up a yamaha psr e223 keyboard with a midi cable and which controller?
BlazyNonVevo 5 months ago
I don't understand why you need a mixer and a soundcard can someone explain?
drgrules 5 months ago
@drgrules You don't need a mixer unless your recording live sounds such as an entire drum kit snare bass hi hat cymbal tom all indivually with different mics. soundcards are preamps for your microphone and for your monitors and they have drivers for lower latency and better sound qualitty

You should make a note for pc users: Make sure your firewire card has a TI (Texas Instruments) chip! It will save you many many headaches down the road. Same is true with USB interfaces. Also, that Duet would sound WAY better if you didn't run a Behringer mixer into it...
