Hmmmm ....... let me see if I can sum it up here. I got it, How many Kenpoists does it take to screw in a light bulb? 100! 1 to screw it in, & 99 to say "that's not how Mr. Parker taught me!!
What "LordShandor" and "Deilgyre" said is plain crap. Kenpo is based on individual needs, not strict guidelines and unmoving structure. You can get that at any school. Obviously theirs.... I have watched many of the Casa De Kenpo series and find that many are close to our school but even the techniques that have differences, we are shown those differences and allowed to choose our own path. Good for them. As for the negative comments, they aren't worth the digits used to store them.
Something Coordination set is supposed to teach is flow and mid point balance. This cannot be achieved by stopping and starting your motion with every move. It is also disrupted by planting your foot between the front kick and the back kick.
Mid point balance is violated when you lean to do your kick and kick punch. Your posture should remain essentially erect through the entire set. You shouldn't be reaching.
You also have 60% of your weight on your lead leg most of the time.
Your vertical outward block is done at the wrong angle. It should come up at a 45 matching the angle of your lead leg, your forearm should be 'vertical' not angled and your hand should be at a 45 not a 90.
Same goes for the downward block which should move at a 45 perpendicular to your VO block. Blocking across the body at a 90 as you are doing isn't physiologically correct when talking movement or alignment. It will have no strength at those angles and lose most of its effectiveness.
I very much enjoy the detail in these instructional segments and videos. As odd as this may sound,my instructor never ever even hinted at these various sets and whatnot. No coordination, finger or blocking sets...although we were shown most of these movements.
Isn't there any set in between coord 1 and 2 ? or something intermediate....... There's a lot of difference in movements and level from 1 to 2. Some leap.
Anyways, nice job guys.
............ Would you happen to have in your nexts projects TWO MEN SET?
