Frankie Gavin has skills, no doubt about it, he's a very talented fighter...but his downfall as he moves up against tougher opposition will be his reach, which is tiny and his power, which there isn't much...it's ok stopping bums who are hand picked, but if Gavin steps up against someone like Khan with a huge reach and speed to burn, he will be picked off to bits, I feel even Paul McCloskey would do a number on Frankie, but thats just my opinion
@MrTalkingSense it won"t matter about reach, because he has great timing, you can"t teach perception thats inbuilt. Gavin is a better boxer than Khan, Amir fights in straight lines. Gavin has better boxing brain & movement.
@dan32113 Frankie definately has a great boxing brain, and his movement & footwork are superb too, he has really good technical skills, but I feel with his lack of reach he becomes vulnerable against bigger opponents...but I suppose this becomes more of a problem due to Frankie's lack of power, but maybe as he develops so will his power, but this should beseen as a major concern as far I'm conerned
@dan32113 Pernell Whitaker was one of the best boxers of all time, you can't really compare him to Frankie...he had a huge reach, and much more power than Gavin, OK he didn't have a huge KO ratio looking at boxrec, but he did have a long reach and used it to his advantage in a big way...Frankie doesn't have this, and his lack of power is quite worrying from what I can see....if he wants to move up the ladder in the boxing world he needs to increase his strength, he doesn't have enough power

@dan32113 Frankie is a special talent there's no doubt about it...Manny Pacquiao doesn't have the longest reach, but he has hard banging power and speed to burn, which makes the reach not so much of an issue...I feel that if Frankie could add power to his list of talents then the world would be his oyster, but without it he will struggle to reach the next level....he has skills which belong on a world stage, I reckon losing some speed to gain more power wouldn't be a bad move for Frankie
@MrTalkingSense Frankie could do plyometric exercises to increase power, but i wouldn"t advise weights! also,Chopping wood or banging rubber tyres with a hammer is tired & tested aswell He doesn"t want mass bulk, but some more core strength may help with power. Also improved balance, stretching exericses may help. Don"t forget Willie pep wasn"t a big puncher but was an alltime great "boxer"

Frankie gavin is a very classy boxer and you can tell he has a great boxing brain thats the one thing that particularily stands out to me and his style reminds me abit of lucian bute.
I think that eventually frankie will turn out to be a better fighter than amir khan.If you look at their amateur achievements gavin's actually surpass khans ie khan won a silver at the olympics whereas gavin won a gold at the world amateur championships which no other british boxer has done.
That dosen't make a difference, Olympics can be thought of as a harder competition but it can also be thought of as easier. Olympics don't seed the boxers, so you could have an easy draw all the way through to the final, or the favourite could meet the favourite in the 1st round. In the world champs the favourites usually always reach the quarters stage because of the seedings. Olympics are more prestigous though.

@BoxingBadBoy77 yeh gavins the only olympian out of the 3 that looks pretty good! saunders is ok..degale is no way gonna win a world title with these headhunters in there..degale looks quite fragile and i beleive he will get sparked out..i know its quite early to judge but he is quite slow in the pro ranks and looks quite vulnerable at times! theres guys like kirkland,williams,pavlik,martinez..i really cant see him in with these lot even after 20 fights.
@BoxingBadBoy77 i understand what you're saying but there are a couple of problems. amateur boxing is very different from professional boxing. james degale showed that, although he's adapted well recently. not really that reliable to go off an amateur record, but i get it does give a vague guide. also, khan had to fight mario kindelan in the final, who was a far better amateur boxer than anyone gavin had fought. he has a bright future, and tho im not khans biggest fan, i admit he's done well.

olympics is a much higer honour, and you'll find just about none of the gold medal winners at the world champs won gold at olympics.

That dosen't make a difference, Olympics can be thought of as a harder competition but it can also be thought of as easier. Olympics don't seed the boxers, so you could have an easy draw all the way through to the final, or the favourite could meet the favourite in the 1st round. In the world champs the favourites usually always reach the quarters stage because of the seedings. Olympics are more prestigous though.

@BoxingBadBoy77 khan beat the great kindelan..cotto,tito trinidad are omong the fighters who lost 2 him..khan was winning the fight at the olympics and it was very competitve but then kindelan took over thats why there was a rematch and plus khan had just turned 17..gavin is a man! gavin never made it to the olympics cos of fat stomach!

@BoxingBadBoy77 i like gavin and il be rooting for him as he progresses but he needs 2 hire a proper trainer to take him to the next level..thats the mistake khan made n he shuve done it early..khan also looked better than gavin in his early fights..gavins 1 dimensional..remeber khan just reached his puberty when he made his debut and gavin is at a stage where he is already quite strong! even then khan looked better but you really cant talk now cos these are 4 rnders

@Ronz93 You never know maybe he could join the wild card like khan has,I know that khan and gavin got on quite well when they were both amateurs and sparred a fair bit so its a possibility and gavin has alot of potential just like khan so you never know.

@BoxingBadBoy77 yeh gavins the only olympian out of the 3 that looks pretty good! saunders is ok..degale is no way gonna win a world title with these headhunters in there..degale looks quite fragile and i beleive he will get sparked out..i know its quite early to judge but he is quite slow in the pro ranks and looks quite vulnerable at times! theres guys like kirkland,williams,pavlik,martinez..i really cant see him in with these lot even after 20 fights.

@BoxingBadBoy77 i understand what you're saying but there are a couple of problems. amateur boxing is very different from professional boxing. james degale showed that, although he's adapted well recently. not really that reliable to go off an amateur record, but i get it does give a vague guide. also, khan had to fight mario kindelan in the final, who was a far better amateur boxer than anyone gavin had fought. he has a bright future, and tho im not khans biggest fan, i admit he's done well.

hatton would knock khan out i reckon. im a fan of amir but you gotta stop pushin this fight cos the timing just isnt right. defend the title and avenge prescott and then go after 1 of the big boys. khan is moving along nicely at the moment so dont f**k it up by going back into a super card. To be honest I dont think either of them are interested in it. both have so much to lose. just that d**khead frank warren wants his money.

i think your forgetting that mayweather and pacman are absolutly awsomely good, khan wouldnt last one round with pac-man or mayweather. hattons last fight before pac mans was great he actualy boxed instead of brawled, who ever haton faces next he will beat them no problem. khan is shit ! he aint fought anyone decent apart from barrera and he head butted him in that !!

Pacman and Mayweather are 'WORLD CLASS' and Hatton could not handle them which makes him 'NOT SO WORLD CLASS' - and as for khan, he is still a baby who won the world title at a younger age than hatton. for fuck sakes hes only 22 and hasnt developed to fight pac man. but let me tell you something, pac man has sparred with khan and has said that hes tougher than hatton. khan would put up more of a challenge than weak, frail fatton! sorry but truth hurts! hang on a minute amir khan aint fought anyone decent to win his belt take a look at some of the fighters ricky hatton faced when he started off in the pro ranks ! to name a few giuseppe lauri , leoncio garces, pedro teran, tommy peacock and jon thaxton. in the fight against pac-man not taking anything away from pacman coz i love him to bits !! but ricky hattons hands never not once went higher than his chin, obviously he thought he could take a pacman punch but his game plan was all wrong.

ricky hatton was unbeaten in 43 fights. yeah thats right ! 43 and even then he lost to a wolrd class fighter. amir khan only managed 18 fights and then he lost to a bum like breidis prescott lol haha answer me this since you seem to know everything about boxing ! if amir khan loses to a bum like prescott and hatton loses to the greats and hatton has beaten everyone else, what in the hell makes you think that amir "im shit" khan would beat him?? hatton has more power and a much better chin !!

43 fights with bums. and no dude, you hand on a minute. in boxing you cannot use that excuse 'had the wrong game plan' and especially at that level. at that level you should be able to adapt to other game plans, from plan a-e should be trained. but like roach states 'hatton is too one dimentional' and that is right. bottom line, hatton is good but not world class and he got way to ahead of himself and didnt even put up a decent challenge against the world class opponents.

do you not no nothing about boxing, he lost to prescott 3 fights ago. and to become a world champion after that loss when everyone was writing him off is an achievement. bernard hopkins lost his first fight, pac man lost early in his career, tyson lost to buster douglas, does this mean that they are all shit due to there losses. a true fighter is how he bounces back, and khan has a world title unlike brendis brescott

yea but if all them fighters you have backed with an excuse for them losing, surely there is one for khan. and il give you one, khan lacked in defensive skill and tried going all out. secondly i would not consider presscott an average fighter, (look at this record and knockout ratio). he is obviously a big hitter. i am a khan fan and am happy he lost that fight because he has become more stronger and defensive and has become a world champion after that loss. ; )
