There is no reason to freak out if someone ways "thats so gay" but that doesn't mean we should condone it either. I personally think calling something "gay" when you mean to say "bad" sends a message to people that the two are equitable. A child that grows up hearing "gay" as a negative word is more likely to be closed-minded to homosexuality. Maybe if this phrase was less commonplace we'd have less homophobia in modern society.

I think I have to disagree with you on this one. I'm not /technically/ gay, but my best friend certainly is. I don't use the word in this sense, because it bothers him. People who use the word "gay" as a synonym for lame or stuff like that add stigma to the word even when it's used correctly. because thats not the point. it doesnt matter if its a 3 letter word or a 30 letter word. who cares if your so confident in yourself that YOU wouldnt care. ever realize that there are OTHER people in this word that arnt as confident as you and it doesnt matter the size of the word but to as what that word is meaning. & in this case its being called stupid, or lame or whatever& i think that you need to look past your confidence and look at others.

I AGREE. i cant stand FAGS who get but hurt over these words. words have multiple meanings, and people like myself who use the word gay to describe something stupid, make it very clear we arent targeting a group of people. calling something negro could be referring to a color. yet it still offends people. grow some balls folks. using these words in these contexts is perfectly ok

Gay also means happy. I say that to my friends all the time. Like for example, "Your very gay today." It's only means boy likes boy or girl likes girl if you think like that, but I'm sorta an optimist, I think everything will turn out okay. Hooray for being upbeat. :)

@ReneeTheGreat3 Well, it's a way to use a singular noun... kind of like how one can say "He's a brunette." as well as "He is brunette." It really probably means very little and has no mean intent from the person saying it unless they are already saying bisexual in a negative way. I don't let things like that get to me. ^_^
