NO Catholic is going to accept an arrival of some mortal man in these last days and presume in any way that is Jesus Christ. God made only One Visitation in the flesh for a Divine Holy Salvation Purpose, and that being Finished, Jesus is Eternally God and not a man. Catholics are inoculated against false Messiahs that shall appear in the last days to control or rule the world as a savior, such man can only be the Anti Christ. Jesus will be seen in the same Way as seeing God in Heaven,
Catholic Faith holds that Jesus Christ, as to His Eternal Identity and Being, is entirely and fully and forever and ever God. Jesus is God, God came down from Heaven , lowered His Being to take on a human form to appear as the Son of God Jesus ,and died for us to release all the captives held in the Sanctuary of God, Jesus returned to Heaven, forever as God, but comes forever more and is now coming as the Holy Ghost appearing always to the Saints, but not as a mortal man, but as God.
The Islamic Jesus tends to be a "different person of Jesus" than the Gospels. Jesus never died on the cross, never died at all, and is due to return bodily as a mere mortal man, destroy the Church and then die as an Islamic Martyr, which is a view claimed to be supported by the Koran. The Catholic Jesus once lived as a man ,but always existed as God in Heaven, and returned to God in Heaven, who is the One, but appeared three ways, as the Father, as the Son ,as the Holy Ghost.
Political Correctness is the motivation to attempt to recreate Jesus every year. The Traditional Jesus has the most scholastic support, and there is no reason to conclude another Jesus makes a better case, but there is plenty of reason why modern scholars attempt to achieve fame by presenting new images of Jesus, which reasons those persons must take their motives to their graves .
@worksequalsalvation Ha! This is the funniest thing I've ever read about Craig. Watch the latest debate between Evans and Ehrman (religion soup). btw, Ehrman deeply respects Evans and his work.
If jesus was a real Lord/teacher, How come he doesn't have his Own Wrttings/Gospels to Guide his people?? New Testament migth be a Fabrication as well of Decievers as The bible has Many Contradictions....
@worksequalsalvation lol Ok! Comparative religion, and scripture studies for more than 5 years (actually a LOT more, but on a more professional, dedicated scale). At first, an unbiased approached. But eventually, God sets us all in our place. If you believe God is fair, then you'd understand that a grade 3 student can't be tested with grade 4 mathematics. If the news doesn't reach the last ppl until the end of time, how can he judge them? Bible? lol That's a joke.
So Judas is 2nd century fiction, while the other are what?
Most bible scholars like a bit of controversy, but not too much ...
For the sake of honesty, any talk by these guys (Ehrman included) should start answering the "was there a Jesus" question. Why can't it be a myth or a composite character built by early church leaders?
@ITubeSheTubes starting with the question of whether there was a Jesus in every discussion is like starting every cosmological question with whether or not there is gravity.
@martha1spur Bart started out as a fundamentalist Christian, and lost his fundamentalism as a result of his bible studies. He was honest in his assessment that the bible was not the 'word of God'. For many bible students, politics weighs heavily in their interpretation of what they have studied. Not many are as objective as Bart was.
It sounds like the problems (e.g. highly questionable evidence and theories) that exist in this 2nd century testament to Christ (the Book of Judas), are no less significant than many of the problems which exist in the other testaments.
His research is poor. He starts with an assumption, that the Bible is true, and then calls everything different from the Bible as false or ficticious.
Have you read any of his books? Actually he's one of the best defenders of not assuming the Bible is true. He defends the idea that there are good reasons to believe the Bible is true and therefore those who come up with ideas 200 or so years after the fact are not reliable.

@worksequalsalvation Qur'an was created by Vatican? You obviously haven't read the Qur'an but you're entitled to your opinion.

Bart Ehrman is a skeptic who views through the lens of a skeptic - not a historian

I enjoy following historians as they tend to be less bias than theologians! Bart Ehrman is an EXCELLENT historian and he has some GREAT books!

So the book of Judas is a real book that just can't be used to tell us the truth of the life of Judas...
BUT every book in the New Testament is 100% accurate and always tells us exactly what is tru.
Sounds like he knows what it's like to be an atheist regarding this book. Now he just needs to extend that to the other books.

@iqguy001
Book of Judas does NOT tell the truth because it is FICTION - it was written at least 100 years AFTER JUDAS' DEATH - it's NOT autobiography.
