On September 20th, just 12 days from this posting, the law known as "don't ask, don't tell" will be history. I would like to send a carton of Grade A eggs to SGT Major Jones to break over his face as he has been proven so wrong.
SGM Jones talks about "selfless service" in his testimony!! GREAT!! He was testifing with USMC SSG Eric Alva and USN Captain Joan Darrah. They served respectfully 12 and 29 years in the US Military. Are SSG Alva and Captain Darrah NOT examples of selfless service? Would SGM Jones have had them thrown out if he served with them in the miilitary and accidentially found out they were gay?
@cmrfactman Because he does not prove any valid research or findings in backing up his claims on unit cohesion. He is just giving his opinion... and it is biggoted.
@macrent2 So I guess Sgt. Maj. Jones, an Army Ranger hero of the Mogadishu Black Hawk Down rescue campaighn and several other danferous military missions conducted by during his honorable career is not qualified to discuss unit cohesion? Grow up my friend. It is you that is naive and bigoted.
@cmrfactman I did not say that his career has not been honorable and I did not say that he was qualified to do research and provide proper sociological scientific studies on the matter. It is just that he has yet to have any work on his findings published or peer reviewed. However, there is plenty of research to sujest that the law is not currently working. I rely on scientific research and data to make desisions, not opinion! Thus he is opinionated which leads to biggotry.
@macrent2 Sgt. Maj. Jones doesn't need to write a research paper or book to have common sense opinions based on his military experience regarding this matter. I assume that Congress felt that Jones had sufficient experience and knowledge of the issue to ask him to come and testify. Perhaps they overlooked your military experience and vast wealth of knowledge, thereby missing a wonderful opportunity to have you testify also.
@cmrfactman ...and ALSO testifying were Retired Navy Captain Joan Darrah, who narrowly escaped death at the Pentagon on 9/11 who served just short of thirty years, and former USMC SSG Eric Alva, who served 12 years and lost his leg as the FIRST casualtiy of OIF. They don't have to do any research papers either to know that all of SSM Jones' claims are bogus and based solely on predjudice. A third person testifing in facor of getting rid of DADT was Retired Major General Vance Coleman.
@dino0967 Major General Coleman is an African American who served in the US Military in 1948 when President Truman desegregated the Armed Forces. Major General Coleman testified that racisism and homophobia were cut from the same cloth and you CAN absolutely draw a paralel between the two issues. Did you see Major General Coleman's testimony cmrfactman?
@cmrfactman, Actually I don't think SGM Jones was "asked" to testify. He and Elaine Donnelly were the ONLY witness available to testify in support of the ridiculous law of DADT. The Pentagon did NOT send anyone to testify and their absence spoke volumes. On the repeal "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" side there were THREE witnesses speaking; SSG Eric Alva USMC, Captain Joan Darrah USN and Major General Vance Coleman USA.
