  • I studied Ballet also, and your son had beautiful control, especially

in his footwork, I'm so pleased he got in and continues to do

something he loves. Ballet is a wonderful world!

  • does anyone know what the opening piece of music is? thanks:)

and the 2nd piece too please lol

  • would any one happen to know the music being played at the beginning of the video

  • Bravo! I'm glad he made it in :) Best of luck to him!

  • work on pushing through the floor on his tondus (or however you spell it)

  • How old was he when he started? My youngest one loves ballet & she has been taking classes since she was 5. My ? to u is. Did he tell u he wanted to dance or did u notice that he might be good @ it? With me it was both. I just hope she keeps it up & makes it pro. Ur son is wonderful, Is he still dancing?

  • @sassylatina808

He was 5 when he started. We had heard that our local studio was giving scholarships to boys - so I looked at mine and asked who wanted to try ballet. He has been involved ever since, and loved it right away.

He is still dancing! He is a freshman in HS at UNCSA. :)

  • What I know about ballet would fit comfortably in the period at the end of this sentence, but I have to applaud the courage of ANY boy in this culture who, for whatever reason, decides to dedicate so much effort to something as graceful and refined as what I'm seeing now...

From the comments, I gather that he's kept up with his passion and commitment...congratulations! You've inspired me to learn more about the ballet, perhaps even to attend a performance.

    Thank You

  • @1johncain

Thank you so much for your very kind words, they were a treat to read. I do hope you'll take in a performance and enjoy it. Nutcracker season is nearly upon us!

  • he's turning in on his sid degages, and he sicles a little. Especially on the developes. Good work, but get those kinks out early, it's hard to change later.

But I do see a very strong little boy with a bright future :)

  • @pinkishgluestick

This video is 4 years old. I'm pleased to say that he is now in residency at UNCSA, with a scholarship!

  • @tauwillow NICE!

  • Well his tehnique is okay on his age, but he could fill the music more with his movements. and his feet are inserted by the ten dues

  • he's good! did he get in?

  • @Pallydog

He did! He was given a full scholarship and had the time of his life. He has gone on to other summer intensives, and is now in residence at UNCSA.

  • Whats the music?

  • @Zerlina12 the peice of music for his first pile is gabriel faure and the tune is called pavrone

  • I so wish I'd had these sorts of opportunities when I was a boy.

  • hey I'm new to ballet and i was wondering what i'll be doing in my beggining classes?

Also What pair of tights should i get

    P.s. I'm A Dude

  • He's adorable. It's clear to see he's excited :) he needs to work on his turnout though, and his stable. Either than that he was great :)

  • when he was doing his plies, why was he moving his hand back and forth between the upper and lower barres?

    Good work tho (:

He needs to work on his arms a little, the elbow should always be higher than the the hand whenever the arms are being held out to the side. But he's great for his age! (:

  • @carlyheartsdance

He moved his hand because he was so short. Fortunately he's grown, as this video was shot 3 years ago.

  • @tauwillow I thought so.. it just seems strange to me as I've never seen anyone do that before, maybe I just haven't noticed? Hahaha, at my studio the shorter children would just put their hand on the lower barre, and keep it there. It's nothing against him, he's great, I was just wondering xD haha.

  • It's nice to see clips of ballet classes featuring with a few boys. Or rather here--a boy.

99.9% dealing with the ballet makes it seem like ballet is strictly an all-girls club.

When we see clips like this, it proves... that the boy has his place in ballet as well. We all know those girls are the stars.

    But he belongs there, too.

As someone who takes the craft himself...

--Your Brother in Arms in Tights, Dane Youssef

  • Excellent.

  • Some very fine work fellow. If I saw this audition tape... I would take you without hesitation. Really nice arms for your age.

  • the melody at 1:24 sounds a lil like eminem's 'we made you'

  • Q bello!!

No entiendo x q critican a los niños q bailan ballet a mi me parece genial no le enuentro lo gracioso prefiero ver a un bailarin de ballet q un jugador de football!!

  • @oufc29 just wondering, because you're a ballet dancer. =)

  • @everyloss yes i am a male ballet dancer i am 30 years old this young lad is very good for his age wish i was as good as him this is the exactly the same male ballet attire that i wear at my ballet class i have to wear whitedancebelt support cup white leotardand black footed tights white ballet socks and black ballet shoes

  • K BONITO BAILA

  • this is really good for his age this is the same ballet attire that i wear at my ballet class i have to wear black dancebelt support cup white leotard footed tights white ballet socks and black ballet shoes

  • @oufc29 how old are you?

  • @everyloss who do you ask my age have i said something wrong then ?

  • Your kid is doing good, but please add the following:

    1) dress him up in a one piece unitard. its more professional, & masculine, and the teacher can correct his bodily movements,

    2) he needs to stop sickling as he does tendus and degages.

    3) he needs to turn out more and manintain the turnout as he tendues to the front, side and back. his sickling will cause him serious injuries in future.

  • 1) This is the dress code for both his studio, and every major summer intensive he has ever auditioned for.

    2) He was 10 when this video was taken. He is now almost 14. If you want to see more recent work of his, look at my other videos.

  • this is the same dress wear that i have to wear black dancebelt support cup white leotard footed tights white ballet socks and black ballet shoes

  • @bodypoetry yes

  • the child have to do more en dehors.

  • hi, I know I know this, but what are en dehors again?

  • en dehor is moving away from the the supporting leg. the opposite would be en dedan

  • I just learned this last week at my ballet class actually, I knew I knew it =) thanks though

  • hes nice, i just wish hed keep his hand on the lower barre when doing plies

  • uhm...les genoux!

    et l'en dehors!

il faut reprendre des ex. à deux mains à la barre...je crois...

il bambino è comunque molto carino e può fare buone cose :-)

  • I hope you'll look at his newer videos. This one is almost 3 years old.

  • cuidado con las rodillas!!!

  • Has quality and control. Technically needs to work on placement and turnout needs to show expression in face, too serious, you must show that you are enjoying with face.

  • oh my goodness this little man is gonna be amazing.

  • Pequenas falhas compreensíveis.Esta em fase de crescimento e aprendizagem.

Beautifull. The boy very special. Very god

  • wait wait wait!

what song is this? what CD anyone know?

  • mucha suerte!!!! aprovexa aora q empiezas joven!!!!!!!!!! sino te arrepentiras dentro de unos años :)

  • here are a few tips : )

work on your turnout when tendu to the side && devlope. & when in devlope don't grasp the bar to get your leg up there..its better for it to be low && controlled.

do not put any weight on your tendus. point as hard as you can!!! work on strength & control

    hope this helps :)

  • He needs some work on building posture using his arms and chest. Looking ralexed really aids in audition videos.

  • good luck with the audition!

  • Nice, but remember to lengthen your arms 'slightly,' and allow movement in your wrist. Upon your warm-up, before submitting to a 'full- plies,' your hand should slightly face downwards. On a few occasions especially when raising your leg, your feet were 'sickeled,' (2,14+).

    Other than that, well done.

  • perfeitoo esse videoo

  • did he make it?

  • That is so cute! He is really doing his best. I think he has nice round arms. But his foot goes away from his leg. keep it on one line. but otherwise quitte nice

  • Careful of his hands. They are very stiff, and they break at the wrists. Keep your arms rounded, and your wrists flowy, not stiff.

Si fuera perfecto no estudiaria nada...

  • Tienes 11 anos!! No puede ser perfecto

    Gee, wake up!

  • It's great!

But his arm falls down..and down...and down... ;D

  • Good,

but you need to point your toos ! (in arabesque !)

and you shoudn't turn your hip out if you raise your leg ! (4,41)

  • Boys and ballet are awesome!!!

  • oh he is preety good. btw what song ( music ) is this???

  • He looks afraid lol!

  • He's very en dedans!

  • I do think he has very good potential. What impresses me the most is his very fine face expression, style and good (for his age and level of training) port de bras.

  • great potential he'll be amazing wen hes older

  • It's great! But on ur grondea going down keep your but tucked in and great job coming back up very nice!

  • GO GET UM CHAMP!!

  • Great job! I definitely wasn't that good when I was eleven, but try to think about keeping your heel forward with degages and developes (aka dont sickle). Also, try to keep your arms more steady at the bar. But other than that, great job and keep up the good work!

  • may i ask which intensives he is applying to? and how ofetn he trains now?

he has tons of potential, and considering so many boys start dance training later in life, and are still very successful, he has one leg up of the competition!

i'm only asking where he is training because a good education could rocket his potential to the next level, its so exciting to see young talent, especially in boys

  • Nice work. He has potential and does well for his age. I hope he continues his study.

  • nice! but work!

  • very good!!

    :)

    careful with that sickle tho.

  • Very good job! Watch you foot! Your sickling a lot. Good luck with auditioning! hope you get into the intensive you want!

  • keep up the good work

  • Just a few comments: in the beginning he shouldn't be switching handlebars, don't flap your arms too much, focus on turnout in your tondues, pull up on your releve, make sure to come back to your fifth position at 1:50, turn out on your arabesques at 3:50, relax your shoulders throughout, strengthen your standing leg, stop flapping your hands,

glissades should be done with two feet in the air at the same time at 6:20.

    Otherwise, work it.

  • Which arm is doing the flapping? I agree on the not switching handlebars tho

  • tiene muy buen empeine, salta muy bien pero tiene k cuadrar su cadera,no mover tanto las manos, apuntar su pie y mantener el andeor

  • On his develope to 2nd, he needs to keep the leg lower so he can focus on turning the leg out completely.

He has a lot of potential though, he's going to be a brilliant dancer when he's older!

  • you shouldn't hold the bar if its over your shoulder. but neither of the bars are the right size :P

  • This fellow dances very well. No one should be criticizing or judging him. I know from first hand experience how nervous you are during auditions and recitals. It was tough enough for me as a boy growing up taking ballet. I commend him on his hard work and his success. I hope he continues with ballet and does not do the stupid thing that I did and quite to start chasing girls at the mall as a teenager. Great job, Keep dancing!

  • he should try to use the lower bar and put his hand slightly forward. would look better.

  • no he shouldnt! the lower bar is his hip height!

  • Hey can you please let me know from whom the first music piece for his plie ist? I would like to have that music...thanks in advance

  • Im sorry, I don't know. His teacher chose it for the video.

  • The piano party of the song Paparazzi from xibith

  • sorry but i think your wrong it by a guy called gabriel faure and the tune is called pavrone i have this mus on cd and my ballet teacher told me so sory to dissapoint you

  • @joerglij the peice of music for his first pile is gabriel faure and the tune is called pavrone

  • @joerglij Swan Lake by Tchaikovsky :) It's beautiful

  • he has a lot of potential!! :)

did he make it into an intensive you guys hoped for?

  • He did - on full scholarship. :)

  • that's amazing!

i'm sure you were extremely proud. :)

  • congratulations to him! he dances beautifully! espescially for an 11 year old!

  • very good for his age

he needs for presence and feeling

  • Keep your arms lower down and flow to the music more. Listen to the music and use it. Hands are a bit stiff but pretty good for his age. (I'm into the English National Ballet school young dancers and starting this year- for more information on it go to English National Ballet school and click on outreach and courses)

  • Nice for his age, his plies are perfect, may need to work on pourtebra, and on some things his knees are bent to much like on the arebeque, and on some things like the padesha, his posse is not up high enough. Needs a little inprovent but may need to do some more excersizes to get those knees straight, Maybe he is so used to his plie that thats probably right, He did a very good job overall besides those professionals from all around, But that is probably the best ive seen a boy do. a three star

  • the hip has to be down

  • The arm in the plie (excuse spelling) gets weird and thr grande plie goes all the way down

  • the extensions are not that high so the back should not move that much forward remember the foot has to be pionted these are just corrrections i get from my teacher

  • With his arm movement I noticed the hand arriving to destinations a little too late, although the hand is the last to arrive as it follows the destination try not to overdo it.

I also noticed a slight sink in the plies (centre of room), try not to sneak a time out while in mid plie.

  • In the point tondu section try to have no more than 25% of weight in the leading foot.

From top corner glisards (please excuse spelling) are propelled from inner thigh therefore your direction would follow direction of the knee.

Main pointer is to work on your turnout!

  • The boy's got great potential but needs to watch his weight transference from supporting leg to supporting leg.

Then he can concentrate on his turnout which is achieved by using inner thigh muscles which he should not try to overdo it or it shall weaken his tendons later on.

  • Put more feeling into your dancing. Make sure you are balanced and not pushing towards the bar.

  • Congrats to you buddy, he´s got talent. Needs a little improviment here and there, but he does nice for the age!

  • I've played this music!

  • he has to learn not to bend his knees while doing certain excersises

  • very nice movement from one so young

  • It's really good except his arms are down.

  • he should only use 1 barre because it outher wise looks messy

  • He's not bad for his age.

1)He just need to Strengthen his abdominal muscles

2)learn to breathe through his exercise instead of holding his breathe.

    3) Open up those shoulders blades esp for male

    4) Relax his hands on bra ba and first

    5) Do not sickle his feet

    6) Try thinking of having the knees turned out at all times in order to open up his hips

    7) He need some flexibility and strength training

    Soon he'll be perfect! :)

  • man your to strict, relax, he is a boy yet

  • hes ok but he needs relax his hands alot more when hes doing his grand battmons dont pull on the bar or u will fall of balance in the centre

  • he looks so young!

  • Well done! I love the music! I've heard it before, but I can't remember what it's called! What is it?

  • i did the same thing at my dance skool!

  • WOW the boys at my studio they r 13 and the arent half as good as him!

  • i think having a "breathe" b4 the exercise is nt aproblem..alot of mae dancer did that..is up to urself

  • For 11 years old he is very good!

  • good qualities developing! Just some advice, try not to move the hands in between the bars in plies and grande plies, his feet have nice arches so there is no need to inmard sickle...perhaps work on an outward sickle, and i would probably not "Breathe" the arms before an exersize! overall great work, keeping working hard! :)

  • Hes good.

and Im glad he made it into the program.

But for his benefit...I would give him these suggestions:

He needs to work on not sickling his feet, keeping his turn out in arabesque...and his hands are a tad bit "flowery". Good luck!

  • he should certainly NOT move his arm between the bars while doing plie's. Throws off his frame.

And he's over turning out, rolling in on his ankles, twisting his knees.

  • il est bien gentil mais il y a encore du boulot avec ce petit loup ! adorable gamin.

Avec d'aussi bons profs il ne pourra que progresser rapidement.

  • wow he is very good! sorry i know alot of people have critiziced and it must dishearten him a little but i think i speak for all of us when i say we want him to improve so... 1. his elbows sometimes tend to drop he just need to support them a little. 2. on his glisés his first foot is fine but he forgets his other foot and it flops slightly. no.3 finally his hands in bra ba need to be wider apart they get close to touching. will be looking forward to seeing him on a stage and tv:)

  • pourquoi ne tend il pas sé jmbes ? il doit etre stressé

  • .__. what is he auditioning for ??? what school~

  • how long has he been dancing for? and how often does he take class. for the most part from what i see he has the start of a good foundation

  • He's very talented...how'd he do? The only constructive criticism I can give is for him to work on his confidence...otherwise...he's gonna go far.

  • He was accepted, on full scholarship, last year to an east coast 3 week program - and he had so much fun.

He'll be auditioning to three programs this season. Keep your fingers crossed!

  • good luck, :) hope the best for him

  • which school?

  • 5.you can see that hes pointing his feet, but he needs to point his toes to finish the line, he has a very nice arch though. 6. dont sickle!:) 7.generally, he keeps his shoulders down, but when he gets too tense, his shoulders start to drift up. 8. (the last one, dont worry :)) he needs to straighten his standing leg when hes doing center work.

sorry if im being too critical of an 11 year old, but i hope that some of the corrections help as he keeps dancing! :)

  • We appreciate the critique! Having an objective eye can be really helpful.

We're gearing up for this years audition season. We're hoping to do more live auditions, now that he's older - so I don't know if we'll have another youtube video.

Your advice, however, is very timely - and hopefully will give him a number of things to keep in mind.

    Thanks to everyone!

  • hes very good for an eleven year old, thought there are a lot of things he should work on. Some things are: 1.his degashes (sp?) are to slow, he should try to put more power in them. 2.his arms in first are too high, they are by his chest but they should be more towards his stomach. 3.his hands are broken, you can see it most in his plies. 4.his turnout is good when his feet are on the floor, but when he does, for example, a develope, his feet turn in.

  • I see a lot of potential in him. He doesn't lack turnout and for an 11 year old boy, he has good feet (which will get better as he gets older and works on stretching them fully while he's working). I hope he has a good teacher because with good training he could develop into a lovely dancer.

And I must say that I am not easily impressed.

    Good luck!

  • Give him a few years of more study and he'll be a very nice dancer. keep it up! :)

  • He's very good with his upper body, but his(er) teacher shouldn't allow him to do steps that he can't do yet. Everyting should be done very clean right from the start, see ballet videos from other shools Paris, Moscu, Marysnki. It will help him, good luck...........

  • This was an audition, where he was required to show certain steps - irrespective of whether or not he was skilled at them.

  • I think he's very good with the arm's work. If you accept a suggestion he needs to work with the hips and the turn out. It will help him to see videos boy's ballet class in youtube. Keep working................

  • great form for his age! just a tip: when you're pointing your foot, the heal must point up towards the ceiling. it's called a "deviled foot". your foot has to be deviled at all times even when your foot is in derier. oh wait...this is the mom's channel...hahaha sorry if you don't know what i'm saying. tell your son to keep up the good work. he looks great and he'll do even better in a couple years! you'll see great improvement if you compare this vid to 2 years from now!

  • Hey this is his friend I won't reveal my name though but if you let him see my user name he will probly know who this is

  • who is sticking all the -1's on these comments...they are only trying to be helpful

  • I don't know - but it hasn't been me. I know that my son has really enjoyed reading everyone's suggestions and advice.

  • His turn out is really good!

    Well done:).

remember to square your hips ( pull them forward)

    AMAZING:) <3 xxx

  • just dont look at the camera so much. from your friend at PNB

  • It's tough to audition by video tape. It seems almost impossible to just dance. You want to watch the camera. Congrats on getting into your summer program. It's lots of fun. You're doing very well. You have a lovely plie. My son (8) would love to have a plie like yours.

  • It would be lovely to be able to watch a new video of him now after he has participated in the summer school, to see the improvements that I'm sure he'll have picked up. It's always nice to see young dancers develop their technique over the years. I hope he enjoys/enjoyed his summer school.

  • it's lovely to see he's so dedicated. what is the name of the music he is moving to?

  • He is v. good for an 11 year old! But he needs to work on his turn-out especially in the devlopes, keeping his legs pulled up and straight, his toes pointed (don't sickle!), keeping his hips square, his arms more relaxed (he looks very tense) and his expression. Don't be afraid to smile! Works on these things and you will see a huge improvement!! He has great potential. All that is required is a bit of hard work! I agree that a summer or easter course would help a lot. Good luck!!

  • hes 11!!!! he has time, and plus schools need boys! I'm sure that he'll be going places.

  • He's good (:

but he have to put his feat in andeor, not in andedan.

  • hes good.

  • He definitely needs to point his feet more and try and fix his sickle. (dont worry. i have the same problem)

  • tell him not to flick his wrist around (bad technique and girly)

  • 11 is the worst age for boys, their physical development is much more delayed than it is for girls. He is not bad for his age, I have seen few 11 year old boys who dont display the technical faults he does. He just needs time. It's great to see boys being encouraged to dance! Kudos to his parents!

  • Well it's really soon to know if he's got talent as u have been told. It's just a piece of an audition to a young nervious new dancer. If he's on his heart about ballet he's got a chance in my opninion. Like every dancers we need hard work but just keep him working as his fathers. A dancer too, sorry for my english and good look to the kid

  • He looks sweet and aborable, yes. Unfortunately for him, I don't see that much potential. Before anyone jumps down my throat, or starts calling nasty names, I am a former dancer, and really do have a good idea of what's involved. I was 11 when I auditioned for SAB- and it was a summer intensive too. I was lucky, I made it, but I remember so many other boys just like this one who did not. I hope I'm wrong, and I could very well be. I wish this little guy the best.

  • Well, he was accepted to the Milwaukee ballet and Walnut Hill - the latter with a full scholarship.

We still have hope that he will continue to develop and do well. His teacher says that boys 'show' true ability much later than girls. She can tell when a girl is 14 if they will 'make it' - some boys go to 16 or 17 before she can 'see' it. In such a case, we have several years yet.

  • I'm so glad I was wrong :) Congratulations!

  • cute!

    he was so nervous!

    I can understand him!

    i was so nervous too!

  • The sound is familiour. from which song or movie is it??

  • on the secound part he sickels his foot and in devlapie he sickles his foot again btw he is very brave at 11yrs well done!!

  • ooh he's cute he look so nervous but he is very good!

  • His feet are sickled in the batmen tandues. ( Can't spell! )
