Question: Are the three women playing cards, drinking beer, and dressed identically (see 0:28-0:31 and 0:56-1:02) suppose to represent a kind of WWI or WWII era aspect of culture in tandem with the theme of this song? They look like part of BSP's staging--women of the war era playing cards, like something you would easily see in photos of the period or in films representing the social life during the war era. Thoughts?
@dogmart "What about the other half". I understand it to mean wives and the like at home during wartime. I reckon the video gives this some semblance of credance, though don't count on it!
@dogmart I'm pretty sure that this song is about British war dead, if that helps. I've read posts saying such, and the lyrics seem to match that. It is a great performance. Full of conviction.
@neiltay2002 - Oh, yes--I've seen the official video BSP did for the song. Very clearly dramatizing the song's content. I just found it interesting how they continued this dramatization/imagery for a TV performance (the Jools Holland gig).
Saw them live a couple of years ago--amazing group of lads, fantastic performance. I got to talk to Yan and one of the roadies--very friendly.
Is that a Wilshire he's playing? Doherty while he was with the Libs played one too. I don't think I've seen an American play one before, a very British guitar in my opinion, in tone and look.
honestly ive seen some shows and been to festivals these guys at my uni were fucking amazing climbing into the rafters of the union 8ft grizzley bears apperaing out of no where an the guy with the big drum nearly knocked me out with it by mistake
Yo, it's not until you see them in a 150-ish capacity venue that you realise just how fucking brilliant they are. I just got back from a gig, Noble crowd-surfed onto us after jumping off the lighting rig, Yan was crawling all over the stage, and a man playing a trumpet got rugby-tackled into the drum kit after playing a klaxon as loud as possible.
They're absolutely BRILLIANT live. Best live band I have ever seen, which includes RATM, Foo Fighters, Arcade Fire, Radiohead and The Flaming Lips (who are also genius live)
The basis of a good performance is good music you fool, sorry if they don't dance around on the stage like backstreet boys or whatever performers you like.
the band is ok, it's just the singer which sucks :P , I like the music and stuff but the singer is really (no comment) :P

@dogmart Then again, the women in this could represent female armed force members. I just don't know.

This is the song that got me back into guitar music after a lengthy hiatus spent almost exclusively listening to electronica. I'm glad it did.
