  • Amazing piece!!!

Starting from 4:20 somewhat reminds of Terminator 2 soundtrack..

  • best is my favorite band song of all time!

  • We're totally gonna get 1st at champs in December playing this(;

  • I Get To Play The Divine Comedy This Year. :D

  • Love this piece. Played this during All State my Senior year. Clarinet all the way

  • The one person who disliked this is still stuck in purgatory

  • @thetreydz i agree. so sad. this is such and amazing chart. why would anyone dislike it? i miss performing it though. performed it last year. wonder if we can do Paradisio this year...hmmm.....

  • Alto saxes FTW

  • As a bunch of the other comments say my symphonic band is playing this this year. Im covering the timpani part. He'll yeah:)

  • my band is playing it this year :)

  • I loved this song! i played it when i made region band. we only had one night and one morning to prepare for it, and yes, we beasted ;)

  • hey anyone know the notes to the trumpet solo at about 4:40?

  • @0111person In trumpet notes it is:

    G C F F E C A G C F F E C G G C F F E C A G, I don't know the rest sorry

  • the divine comedy gives hope that no matter what you have done in the past their can always a better future. Music that speaks, shows me the suffering to the cleansing to the ascension into salvation

  • That's awesome!!!! I really want to play this song actually i wouldn't mind playing the whole thing for symphonic band.. The music is so epic!!!

  • Go trumpet solos!!! Our school's symphonic band is playing the whole Divine Comedy and I have the trumpet solos in this song and Inferno. Incredible large scale work! :-)

  • Great random trombone part. lol.

  • I read your comment 2 seconds before it came up @ 2:26. lol (:

  • My high school band TRIED to play this and failed. We ended up playing this in wind ensemble, I played the piano part.

  • Haha. Great song. Someone made a little mistake at about 5:08 though. Haha

  • The middle section with the vocalizing trips me out...so spooky, and yet so angelic.

  • tubas are the shit

  • but still the tubas are awsome! although they sit right behind me. Ima saxaphonist.

  • EPIC!!! our high school band played this. our band is usually playing Level B music, but we decided were going to play Level AA music instead. We just didn't play that fast at mesure 22 ((aka: part where everyone plays.)) i play the berry sax, so that was fun. And it sounded like the singing should have been lauder.

  • it's all about the HORNS !!!

  • I have the trumpet solo in the beginning, we're playing this at our concert tomorrow!!! i'm soo excited. i love this song so much. this one and purgatorio are my favorites.

    we're also playing inferno.

  • I love the Supermanesque trumpet solo towards the end of the song haha

  • Come on now... Does anyone ever notice the Tubas?

  • yeah...at least i do. whenever we played in band, it felt like the song wasn't complete w/o the tubas

  • how could you not? :D

played this as a freshman; it has some of *the* most awesome tuba parts I've played in 3 years

  • psssh.. tubas?

does anybody ever notice the bass clairents? loll.

  • i's do.....^_^

i es soprano but bass es awesome too...

they sit behind me and i like listenin to their part!!!! xD

KuDoS yO...cuz i couldn't play bass.....i's like to have the melody (1st clarinet)

  • I do...because I'm a bass clarinet player, :P

  • I do and just like heavydhizzy says the band aint complete with out the tuba. Im a saxophonist by the way.

  • we played this in high school as well... is it just me or does the trumpet solo in the last 1/4 of the song sound like the introduction to Star Trek the Next Generation?

  • I miss this song. My high school band played it all the time. We wanted to like combine all the school's bands and maybe the choir to play this piece And the first movement, The Inferno. But, sadly it never happened...

  • OMJ i luv this song and i can't wait til we play it!!! we already played purgatorio at AMEA and can't wait to play this for spring concert!!!! 1ST CLARINETS ROCK!!! yay!!! =-)

  • YAAA i love da clarinets are you a guy or a girl?

    =D

  • We did this in HS, one of the best pieces for the French horn ive ever played.

  • I really love this movement. My second favorite...first fave has to be Purgatorio. But I still love it.

  • This song is just amazing. We did this in concert band.

  • i love the duets..and the woodwing parts..and the runs..mainly the trumpet part..=D

  • We're playing The Divine Comedy this year in marching band! I personally like this song the best... but our drill is really challenging. For the entire show. And this is my rookie year. But I love it all. Wish us luck!

  • oh lucky!

I did this show my first year marching too.

It makes for an awesome show

    have fun :)

  • ooooh you did a marching arrangement of this? that's so cool. we played it it symphonic band. you dont happen to have a video of the performance so you?

  • This is part of the Third tune we perform this year. It starts with a baritone quartet for Paradisio and goes straight into Ascention. This is also my favorite movement to play and listen to.

  • We are playing this song this year, sounds really good, i love the singing. and the trumpet solos are amazing, to bad im not a trumpet player. :( lol

  • playing this song my senior was the best i love this song its so beautiful

  • what a great song

  • i played this in high school on the field for marching and to no surprise we got a 1 and it was the most amazing song i played in high school. i would still sing it in my head when i was in iraq 2 years ago. good memories.

  • Shouldn't it be the Ascension-o or something?

  • haha- I agree

  • if you get a hold of the new platinum release score of the Divine Comedy from Alfred, it entitles the Ascension "Asenzio"

  • im playing this piece as well as inferno in my concert...i cant wait to play this piece its so emotional and alluring...i play the trombone so i liked ascension's trombone glisses and the singing is so cool

  • This was such a fun one to perform. I Play the flute so all the runs were hard in the begining. But they were still fun. I loved singing in this and purgatorio. I mean how often does an instumentalist get to sing during a song? lol not very often...

  • My high school concert band is playing this song... It gives me chills every time we play it. Amazing.

  • is this college band performing this piece? Sounds Great!

  • Ahh yes...percussion. Best instruments in the world (hint: im a percussionist myself)

  • Thank you for putting this here. Whenever I listen to a good recording of this piece, the part where the woodwinds come in while the low brass chants, it makes me cry every time. Beautiful song.

  • Yes I love the low brass

  • I play low brass!

  • Hey so do i!

    Tuba player!

  • Same here! lol - Tuba AND Baritone!

  • GO TUBAS! Me Too!

  • Tubas for the win!

  • I too remember playing this, the Inferno, and Pergatorio in high school. It's music like this that made me really enjoy concert band. This is one of the few things I miss about high school.

  • This is lovely. I played it in high school and it was fun. I havn't played my trombone after high school and I regret it. Does anyone know what the 5 movements are? ( I think there are 5 movements) Where can I find them? So far I found Inferno, Purgatory, this, and Paradiso.

  • Those are the only movements...there are 4.

  • THIS is how I remember it sounding.. very... very beautiful.. wow..

  • i love this piece

imagine the first 32 measures or so of paridiso, then the big attack at measure 23 of acension

    all of that while marching

    we did that show

    it was so badass

  • I played this in 8th and 10th grade.....this is awsome....fun to play
