@thetreydz i agree. so sad. this is such and amazing chart. why would anyone dislike it? i miss performing it though. performed it last year. wonder if we can do Paradisio this year...hmmm.....
the divine comedy gives hope that no matter what you have done in the past their can always a better future. Music that speaks, shows me the suffering to the cleansing to the ascension into salvation
Go trumpet solos!!! Our school's symphonic band is playing the whole Divine Comedy and I have the trumpet solos in this song and Inferno. Incredible large scale work! :-)

Ohhh. Rofl. I went on wikipedia and for the life of me could not figure out what this song had to do with the naval ships names U.S.S. Enterprise. It didn't even occur to me that you were talking about Star Trek.
EPIC!!! our high school band played this. our band is usually playing Level B music, but we decided were going to play Level AA music instead. We just didn't play that fast at mesure 22 ((aka: part where everyone plays.)) i play the berry sax, so that was fun. And it sounded like the singing should have been lauder.
I have the trumpet solo in the beginning, we're playing this at our concert tomorrow!!! i'm soo excited. i love this song so much. this one and purgatorio are my favorites.
we played this in high school as well... is it just me or does the trumpet solo in the last 1/4 of the song sound like the introduction to Star Trek the Next Generation?
I miss this song. My high school band played it all the time. We wanted to like combine all the school's bands and maybe the choir to play this piece And the first movement, The Inferno. But, sadly it never happened...
OMJ i luv this song and i can't wait til we play it!!! we already played purgatorio at AMEA and can't wait to play this for spring concert!!!! 1ST CLARINETS ROCK!!! yay!!! =-)
We're playing The Divine Comedy this year in marching band! I personally like this song the best... but our drill is really challenging. For the entire show. And this is my rookie year. But I love it all. Wish us luck!
ooooh you did a marching arrangement of this? that's so cool. we played it it symphonic band. you dont happen to have a video of the performance so you?
This is part of the Third tune we perform this year. It starts with a baritone quartet for Paradisio and goes straight into Ascention. This is also my favorite movement to play and listen to.
i played this in high school on the field for marching and to no surprise we got a 1 and it was the most amazing song i played in high school. i would still sing it in my head when i was in iraq 2 years ago. good memories.
im playing this piece as well as inferno in my concert...i cant wait to play this piece its so emotional and alluring...i play the trombone so i liked ascension's trombone glisses and the singing is so cool
This was such a fun one to perform. I Play the flute so all the runs were hard in the begining. But they were still fun. I loved singing in this and purgatorio. I mean how often does an instumentalist get to sing during a song? lol not very often...
Thank you for putting this here. Whenever I listen to a good recording of this piece, the part where the woodwinds come in while the low brass chants, it makes me cry every time. Beautiful song.
I too remember playing this, the Inferno, and Pergatorio in high school. It's music like this that made me really enjoy concert band. This is one of the few things I miss about high school.
This is lovely. I played it in high school and it was fun. I havn't played my trombone after high school and I regret it. Does anyone know what the 5 movements are? ( I think there are 5 movements) Where can I find them? So far I found Inferno, Purgatory, this, and Paradiso.
Amazing piece!!!
Starting from 4:20 somewhat reminds of Terminator 2 soundtrack..
