Yes. All re-used plywood. We gathered it in junk piles and dismantled defunct old sheds and buildings to get the salvaged wood we built these tree sits out of. Its not the use of wood we are opposed to, its the mismanaging of our resources and the blatant disregard for local life by Texas based MAXXAM corp.
I have to comment on my experiences with tree sitters. I would watch them sit around my strip, (while illegally trespassing), and smoke dope, then they would try to talk rationally with me? What a joke! If you guys really want to make a difference, go to the amazon and sit in a tree, leave the california timber industry alone, they already have enough red tape.
Hey your right. Talking rationally with you is silly. YOUR NOT RATIONAL! Rationality would include looking into alternatives other that DESTROYING YOU OWN COMMUNITY TO MAKE SOMEONE ELSE LOTS OF MONEY. its irrational. smoking dope on the other hand is commonly used legally as a relief to stress. I get stressed when I see the last of the 2000 yr. old trees fall to the ground for Charles Hurwitz's Savings and Loan Debt (still unpaid). And I choose to make the difference at home first. ACT LOCAL!
Humboldt residents are left with pennies (and landslides and floods) while Savings and Loan sharks Charles Hurwitz and Michael Milken reap millions off our high priced, yet more valuable standing than decking, old-growth Redwoods. Even the workers got screwed. Pacific Lumber Co. is in Ch. 11 Bankruptcy court right now! Look it up!
I will not deny that what maxxam did in the eighties was b.s., but I fell timber there in late 90s and early 2000, and I know first hand what palco has to go through to harvest timber on "their own" land now. By far the most stringent and ridiculous restrictions I have ever seen. I also know how left biased the media is in that part of California, and how the true stories are never told.

You dont know anything about the floods we go thru every year.. not every 100 or so. And you dont know anything about how pissed off everyone in Scotia and Rio Dell is that their Pension got taken away, and they just got fired. and so did their dad and grand Dad. No Sir. You Dont Know. But I do. because I live here.. and have to live with what they do to my home.
So, residents in southern california have had their houses destroyed by major landslides too, but...oh yeah, they can't blame it on logging, because there are not any trees there to cut, but they might not know that landslides happen WHEN THERE IS AN ABNORMAL AMOUNT OF RAIN! And I do know how pissed off the residents of rio dell and scotia, (not arcata), are, because they have had to put up with tree-hugging hippies, and bullshit politics that have taken their jobs.
I know lots of people that work for PL, and they would have been fine, if not for all of the tree huggers, and liberal politics in that area. This is America, where a man has the right to do what he wants with his money, and on his OWN land! Its called capitalism. Oh, and by the way, Maxxam did not cause the floods and landslides. You might look up el nino', because landslides and floods are generally caused by catastrophic weather patterns.
I founded We Save Trees, and I have built dozens of tree-sits, I Love the Forest. I also own 3 chainsaws and own a tree-trimming service, and do restoration and sustainable logging. I cut down trees. I love what I do. Logging can be done right, and it can be done wrong. Mattole Restoration Council does it Right! Pacific Lumber does it WRONG! PL represents the bad in business. Everyone here knows that. And many do abroad, Thanks to the treesitters!

I grew up with a chainsaw in my hand, and I guarantee you that all of the years of my timber cutting career all over the pacific northwest, and alaska, I have never come across a logger who would thank tree sitters!
That is probably because most loggers are doing so purely for a job. But people like rudibega have a conscience too, it seems to me. I agree, logging can be carried out efficiently and to the *benefit* of the ecology if done so carefully and selectively. I can't see a problem with what rudibega is saying here.
