  • Susan Powter started an avalance (in a good way) when I read her first books. I don't have politics of stupid (I have 2 order it and maybe wait a long time because I live in Denmark) but it sounds like a great eye opener.

I read "stop the insanity" and that was the eye opener 4 me. 10 yrs later I am now a vegetarian.

It's actually Bjørn Lomborg who made me "JUMP" in2 vegetarianism. I have only been 2 1 of his lectures about his book "cool it". I absolutely adore him. He's the greatest.

  • But the really important question is: would you have been able to lose your weight with this book? I really think not.

  • I think you missed my point here. I think not too. I had surgery because it was my last option. HOWEVER, I struggle (and so do many others) with the behaviors and choices now that I'm over a year out and able to eat more regularly. If I had started reading this book earlier, I would have fed my body the nutrients it so desperately needed, and I'd be well on my way to eating and thinking in a much healthier way right now. The book says what we ALL need to hear - surgery or not. :)

  • I got the book yesterday. Can't wait to read it.

  • Got the book. Read it. Totally motivated! So I'm going to start eating better foods and moving! My lifestyle is obviously not working for me, so I'm gonna try and change it. I figured I'd stil go through with ym WLS consultation and testing but try and lose some weight in the mean time cause they're going to require that any way. We'll see how I look and feel in a few months when I get an actual surgery date. Thanks for recommending the book, Taunia!

  • YAY! I'm so glad she's having a positive influence on you. I heart her! It's all common sense, but sometimes you just need someone to say it loud and clear for you to remind you to be better to yourself. I tend to start each morning by reading/watching something of hers and it makes a huge difference in the choices and behaviors throughout my day. Best wishes to you!

  • I love the video. It was great. As for Susan powter i used to watch her daily when she had a show on. I cant really afford the book but maybe some day i will beable to so i can read it. Sounds like great advice. Yea a bike, Im getting one to this summer cant wait to go riding . I havent rode a bike since i was 15

  • I got back into Powter last Dec, I like her concepts!

  • She looks just like Rob!

    Dena

  • i'm so happy that you're reading the politics of stupid!!!!

and eating whole foods!!!!....omg - VEGETABLES!

we are kindred spirits on our journey to wellness...SO glad to have you as my friend.

    love you lots and lots,

    soozy

  • What a great video! I totally agree with what you're saying here. I'm so appreciative of my surgery, but it doesn't do much to change our habits in terms of WHOLE foods and real nutrition. I think changing those habits takes tons of time and effort. I'll pick up the book and give it a read. Also, Brittney is so cute!

  • Susan is a little hard for me to follow while watching her on video,so I think that reading the book might help. I TOTALLY agree that is totally better to eat the whole foods without all of the "crap" that a lot of the foods have added. It's honestly just not needed and not good for our bodies. Our bodies weren't created to process all of the chemicals. I am definitely pro surgery as it has helped/is helping me to be healthy ,but it's important to know with what we are fueling ourselves :)

  • Hey please let us know how this continues to work out for you because i was concerned about all the protien post op, but know one was really talking about fruits and vegetables. I NEED those!

  • Susan is absolutely awesome! Thanks for turning me on to Susan Powter. Honestly, she is amazing! Thx Girly!

  • That whole "ologists" thing bothered me because it hit a nerve. I am sick of having all my medical issues written off because I am overweight. It seems like doctors just tell me that I need to loose weight and then all my problems will go away. In fact, one of the major reasons why I want to loose weight is so that I can finally get a doctor to actually treat my illness rather than lecture me about being fat. Sorry, but I think Powter is WAY off base on that one and find it offensive.

  • I'm a little confused, because I think you're addressing two different issues here: "therapy or pyschological" and medical issues due to weight. I guess I'm just not sure what part of what Susan is saying is offensive?

To me, I think responsible mental health care HAS to include nutrition. Your brain is not disconnected from your body, and what we feed it directly affects how it operates.

    (continued in my next response)

  • While I can (obviously) relate to weight being tied to medical issues, I can also attest that after losing 170 lbs and recently completely changing the fuel that I feed my body (whole and nutritious foods), it absolutely DOES make a difference. That's not to say that you shouldn't be treated accurately for your conditions, because it can't be brushed off simply as weight either. I'd be curious what you're doing nutritionally to change your conditions if you wanted to talk privately. :)

  • BTW - I appreciate your comments and always welcome conversation about these things. The only way we change the issues (and ourselves) is talking about it, so I appreciate your comments and wish you the very best!

  • I found a book that I've found to be amazing. There's physical stuff in there about losing weight, but it's more about...well, it's hard to explain. But let's just say that I understand more about being fat and getting to "not fat" by reading a book called The Gabriel Method. Just an amazing book. I like hearing about other books that inspire others. The Gabriel Method is the first "fat" book that has really made sense to me. And even if his philosophy is wrong, it's still good stuff. It's good.

  • I went to Borders to get me a copy of Susan Powter's book and of course they didn't have any in stock...so I ordered it. I should be getting it soon. Can't wait to read it. You look healthy and full of energy...take care!

  • i agree with you that surgery should be last resort...it was 4 me :) and i don't regret it.

  • Complex carbs will help you feel better, carbs are quick energy, after all. It is important for get in lean protein too though, as that is what will save our lean muscle mass. It's a fine line we have to walk. Susan Powter's book is much like her old book, just reworded somewhat...be there, done that. I a'm glad it's working wonders for you. Hang in there!

  • Cont- for Lunch I make a nice mixed salad of greens, tomatoe, red pepper, cucumber, mushrooms, scallions. I use a simple lemon juice/dijon mustard/olive oil/fresh basil/parsley/scallion/sea salt/pepper dressing that I whip up in my mini processor. SO GOOD. I eat fruit for dinner. And stop eating 4 hours prior to bed time. I have lost 15lbs and 3 inches in my stomach and midrif. I can NOW buckle my seatbelt!!!!! Best lifestyloe change EVER!

  • When I first wake up I mix a heeped tablespoon of Bee Polin in my homemade lemonade, then a half hour later have my Green Smoothie, which consists of 1 frozen banana, four leaves of Dinasaur Kale, any other fruits, like an orange, mango, apple, blueberries etc. Plus a tablespoon of Spirulina (Protein) and a Majool date or some Agave nectar. Keeps me full till 2PM. Its the best!

  • Tunia, do you remember a couples weeks ago I wrote to tell you that I decided to become a Raw Vegan? Well I went 100% Raw and have 15lbs and 3inches on my midrif and stomach. I can now FASTEN my seat belt cause it FITS again. My mind is the clearest its been in years, I wake up earlier. I have started stretching exercises and will start Pilaties soon. I fell wonderful and HIGHLY recommed this lifestyle.

  • thanks i love that u did this recap, cus although i understood what u meant, i see how people misunderstood ..i cant wait til my surgery n trust me, it's my last resort..n i understand it's a drastic lifestyle change i am about to embark on n i am ready for it..i am so thankful for u and all the other inspiring peeps on youtube

  • While I appreciate what Susan says about the 'ologists,' and agree with it, I don't think the blame can be places solely with them. There has been a conditioning by the patients, and you will find that a number of the 'ologists' have probably given up because the patients don't or won't listen to them.

Wow...Britney is adorable...and she to totally Rob's daughter!!

  • I, like you, believe that surgery should be a last case resort... and even though I believe 100% in wls, I also believe its only a tool towards getting healthy and we have to educate ourselves and train ourselves to eat healthier and to live fitter so that we can live the "right way" with this second chance we have. I was killing myself before, and now I am learning to live-- so if this is working for you, then thats the answer for you. Love that! Keep rockin beautiful girl!

  • I undesrtand your point of view. I also think that you have to be convinced and certain that this is a last chance decision. If you take this surgery and aren´t convinced you can destroy your life.

  • I've always stressed whole foods and nutritional QUALITY, not quantity. Were you not eating any fruits or vegetables before? I'll buy a six dollar package of strawberries instead of a 6 dollar box of crackers for the kids snack. I'm glad you are bringing these changes to your house. Super important.

  • Brittney is adorable !

  • Taunia, Can you contact me by phone, I would like to share some things I need to tell you. You look fantastic and I see the Taunia (the Diva) Returning....Thanks for these last couple of videos. You look and sound fantastic! Kristy

  • in alot of cases the ologists aren't healthy themselves and spend very little of their education on nutrition

  • Add spinach to that smoothie and replace the ice cream with a few dates. Tastes great.

  • I have to admit, I've been on the fence with Susan Powter's program but been watching her channel. Silly huh? I can see and feel your enthusiasm about her, in fact, I can see your old self returning back again. Will you be sharing with us your journey following Powter's vision? I hope so, I would be very interested and maybe take that "leap" and join also. My down fall is the moving. I don't feel the energy or the desire yet. Best Wishes! ~d~

  • Thanks for your comments! There are things that Susan says that I disagree with (obviously, the whole WLS topic!), but I *am* very motivated by her straight talk and information. I have already started to see and feel the changes in my body, my energy, and my life by swapping out the old bad habits, taking out all-protein, and switching to a well-balance, whole food approach. . I'll definitely post more on that, and thank you for your comments!
