"killing joke shows are a ceremony".....I last saw them at the lyceum,london,1982......is WAS such a ceremony that Ive been afraid to see them ever since,it moved me that much,Im scared of that intensity of feeling....then having to leave and face the world again
hear em first in 1980 and still buying their albums at 48:) massively influential band my other favourite band of all time is XTC but they faded with a whimper sadly. im so impressed KJ are still going strong and that last frame on the clip kinda summs it up for me too :) thanks for the clip mate
Who would have thought back in the day that Killing Joke would outlast practically EVERY band from that era...?
Saw them several years ago supporting Iron Maiden and they KICKED ASS...Bought my first Killing Joke album in 1985,Night Time, and was hooked...EXCELLENT!
Exactly. I remember buying their debut album around 1987 and it blew my mind. Then I bought a bunch of their other albums and was quite underwhelmed. I listened to "What's This For" and thought, "Yeah, right! What IS this for?"
Not to Sound Like A Dick But I would Advise Everyone to not say anything about jaz 'god' coleman or even geordie, youth an big paul or raven will haunt you ;)and a quick fyi for lesleyblood: it is actualy impossible for jaz to speak too much
I wish more people knew about Killing Joke but at the same I'm glad they don't. Is that selfish? I just know if there was a giant fight that the last ones standing would have one thing in common , they would all be Killing joke fans LOL!!!
ask people what music they like.....and the answer will invariably be''i like all sorts of music''...roughly translated this means that they like spandau ballet and duran duran......need i say6 more?...if you dont bop the heed yer deed!
I wholeheartedly agree that this band has been consistently good, and even times when one thought they were going into bizarre territory they succeeded. Hahaha...don't think Jaz is a Prophet (please, think better of your brain and third eye, my friend), and was very amused by the Marlon Brando comment, but saint or sinner, he never has failed to be interesting. Ha ha ha....hey, Brando did some work the week that he died, so charisma knows no age or body type.
Sorry to disagree but this album is next worst to outside the gate, and I`m one of kj`s biggest followers, the songs sound as though they were written in two minutes whilst they were practising, uninspiring music, pysche, wardance bring it on!!!
It was to pay back from when Nirvana stole there song as most of us know "Come as You Are". If you didn't realize how simmilar "Eighties" and "Come as You Are" sound.
I'd say Jaz seems to have taken on the role of Brandon Lee in The Crow here with the outfit. the album for me is going to take a bit of getting used to, it seems to me that it has more of a darker/disturbing feel to it unlike the 2003 self titled album with Dave Grohl
I couldn't agree more. It's also probably the most powerful record I've ever heard - and that's *without* Universe B, which is probably their best song yet! Long Live Killing Joke!
The Black Jester shows us the way. Coleman deserves out unconditional respect for way the his passion has inspired us. The words Killing Joke will echo forever
All the bands with longevity - u2 - REM-Chilli peppers ect, only Killing Joke still sound good and get better and are not in same league as afore mentioned, something wrong there.
Coleman is a MANIAC!!!!!!!

The strings sound great. I can hear this influencing a lot of symphonic metal bands today.

Hosannas From The Basements Of Hell is THE album of 2006 period
georgpetur 4 years ago
Ah yeah that's the one i meant, the genres i mentioned are only ALL present on hosannas. self titled ones are both gd though.
And I agree, according to Kerrang! 2006 was all about the spineless emosexuals.
