little fun fact you know Presidents favorite song was Dixie,One point later in the war he was on a steamer in the Potomac river with a guest from Germany and Lincoln asked him if he had ever heard Dixie the man shook his head so Lincoln replied "the tunes federal property now so I see no reason why the people cant enjoy it again",and then ordered the band to play the song
A guy in New Jersey singing Confederate songs! With a great voice! I really enjoyed but I am not interested in hearing Yankee Doodle. I can get ya a gray or butternut uniform.
i so love this song, ive never been down south 2 Dixie infact ive never been 2 America but this song brings a tear 2 my eye and makes me feel proud, like as if i was from there once,i know that sounds strange! GOD bless all those who fought and died for DIXIE....may they forever R.I.P.
There's only certain gigs where Charlie wants the video camera and so far he hasn't done Highlands at any of them! I'll keep it in mind and request it soon ; -)
This was great. "Dixie" is my favorite song and this was a splendid rendition, and "Rebel Soldier" was poignant as well. Five stars-plus. Thanks for sharing.
even though i'm from california, dixie is one of my all time favorite songs, and this was a damn good version of it...i wanna move to the south eventually though
This is called the "folk process" used a lot by writers like Woody Guthrie who take traditional tunes (or bits and pieces of them) and add their own words...
The costume is awsome! Where did you get it? Actually I was thinking about singing this song in Japan, at Ehime University, next week. Some people told me to think about it, that many American teachers working from northern states working here may not like the idea... but you just gave me the resolve I needed. Thank you so very much! ^^
Blue Grass is basicaly Celtic Music. if u play Blue Grass in Irland they will sometimes mistake it for their own. also Country was influnced by Celtic music and other influences.
Great to see these old historic songs from the civil war brought to life in the present day! If I ever make it to the usa from northern ireland, I am definitely planning to visit all the sites.
i think of my great great great grand farther Corporal George Washington Clary of the 73rd Virginia. i know i don't know him personally but my family always talks about him. he was also a survivor of a yankee prison camp in Point Lookout Maryland. hell i even have his musket he used.

I'm a total yankee, but in history a few days ago my teacher sang "Dixie" and it really got me. My mom rented Gone With the Wind for me and I've barely stopped singing "dixie" all this weekend. I never looked at the civil war from the south's viewpoint before and its incredibly eye opening.
Charlie recorded Dixie on his Americana album. He is making a live DVD / CD on February 13th but that won't be available for months and Rebel Soldier may not be included; it's not one of his more popular songs up North! Dixie always gets a great reception at Zahm shows. His wonderful version is on the 2002 "Americana" album; it's paired with a different song called "Sweet Sunny South" there.
nice sing man! i like it

Normally I'm not a fan of the original lyrics, but that was damn beautiful... Rivals the "Everybody's Dixie" lyrics...
By the way, I re-enact both sides. Any Washington State reenactors, give me a shout.
