15 He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" 16 Simon Peter answered and said, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." 17 Jesus answered and said to him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.Matt.16:15-17
Im waiting for a African American in one of these interviews about religion who responds "no one can know for sure" or a different view then the sterotypical American Christian response. Nope...never gonna happen :/
The United States is an "antichrist dictatorship" ruled by the love of money.
Do NOT accept or choose the mark of the beast on either your righthand or forehead. This is not a good way to avoid starvation & keep on buying in the money-driven world.
Instead, have FAITH. PRAY to Yeshua and see how YHWH takes care of YOU and YOUR NEEDS.
He is able to provide for you, DESPITE THE ODDS. HE LOVES YOU THAT MUCH. Shalom.
Jesus is one of the greatest prophet of God. He said THAT THE FATHER IS GREATER THAN HIM (Jn. 14:28),he DID NOT ACCEPT TO BE CALLED GOOD AND DEFERED TO GOD(Mk. 10:18),he PRAYED TO GOD (Mk. 14:32, Lk. 5:16),he REFERRED TO HIMSELF AS A PROPHET(Lk. 13:33-34),he is a servant of God (Acts 3:13, 4:27, 30, Matt. 12:18)REFERRED TO HIMSELF AS A PROPHET(Lk. 13:33-34)he MADE A DISTINCTION BETWEEN HIMSELF AND THE FATHER (Matt. 23:8-10),he Referred to himself frequently as SON OF MAN(eg. Matt. 8:20).
Those things are all true. And yet, we could also pull quotes where Jesus said that He and the Father were one and that He shared eternal glory with the Father. Moreover, there were attempts during Jesus life to stone Him, why, because He said something His hears recognized as blasphemy (a claim to be God). Jesus never denied this. Now the question is, how do we balance out all the claims, rather than just some of them?
@psalm3003 you have not pulled a quote where Jesus says "I am God" or "Worship Me"
If you read the context of what you claim you find that Jesus doesn't claim divinity. It is your preachers who tell you this means this and that means this....
@triplen3 it's interesting that you just make an assumption that I'm following what preachers have said. The truth is, I've read and studied the passages, in context, in the Greek. As for that quote, there isn't one, although, given the narrative as a whole, and Jesus telling people to remain silent about his identity (demons, those he's healed, the disciples after the Transfiguration), we wouldn't expect to see him parading around and saying, "I'm God, worship me."
@psalm3003 Then you know the context of John 10:30 God and Jesus are one in purpose just like God and Jesus and the Disciples are one in purpose as well (if you dont accept it in purpose you need to add 12 more gods)
And when they pick up stones to stone Jesus they are told that it is written in your laws that ye are gods, talking about the prophets specifically Moses (John 10:35). That is part of their language to call prophets gods and called people gods (psalm 82:6)
@triplen3 and immediately after saying they're all gods, he identifies him self as something more than them in his relationship to the Father. They are gods because the Father sent the word to them, he is the Son of God because he was consecrated and sent into the world. Then you get that bit about the Father in him and him in the Father, followed by the crowds getting it and wanting to nab him once more.
@psalm3003 (i had this earlier but was too long so I had to remove parts) he is telling them he claims to be the son of God (metaphorically) God has dozens of sons in the Bible. I'm assuming you'll say Jesus is different, he is ...... I'll let you fill in the blank. hopefully its something else because i like to learn other opinions!
@triplen3 I think you know my answer. I think it also demands space for a fuller discussion to flesh this out. We'd have to dig into the OT, the faith of 2nd Temple Judaism so we could understand the crowds and culture, and the rest of John's work. Unfortunately, this hardly seems a functional venue for such a discussion.
@psalm3003 Actually we would expect him to state that he is God if he truly was God was he afraid?? Does Jesus say dont tell anyone I am God? He actually tells you he is not God from the references provided earlier and many more!
@triplen3 you might expect him to state that, but he repeatedly makes it clear that because people aren't yet ready to understand what it means for him to be the Christ, he don't want the word out yet. They're wanting someone to take over, but for him to be God means to offer himself on a cross.
@psalm3003 I agree with the first part that many prophets didnt want to reveal what they were untill it was a good time to do so. Telling ppl he is the Mesiah (translated christ for short) early might of limmited the message distribution. But he never tells them he is God.
Your argument is faulty. It says John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son that all who believe in him should not perish." Also John 14:6-7 I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the father except through me.
Jesus called himself the Son of Man because during his physical life (birth to death) he WAS a man. But he was ALSO GOD! Even Satan and his demons recongized this. Mark 23-24 23 "And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out, Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God."
Jesus had to be BOTH TRUE MAN and TRUE GOD to live without sinning so that he could die on the cross and rise again for the forgiveness of our sins. We are concieved and born in sin, so this was impossible for one not also God.
@BonoBonoify I don't think he'd deny that ... he would just have a different take on what it means. While I appreciate the input, discussions like we've had here can't be solved with a simple line.
@holyspiritoftruth thank you for another fine example of stripping Scripture from its context and misapplying it. Given Isaiah's identified audience, this text is intended for the people of God (OT Israel, NT Church) who know God's Word and have witnessed his faithfulness yet rejected it ... not as a means of putting those who aren't Christians in their place.
While I don't doubt his need to know, we didn't say anything at that moment because, prior to shooting the video, we promised everybody that we were just going to ask questions and get opinions. Given the number of people who didn't even want to talk to us because we are Christian, we decided to hold to that promise unless we were asked to share.
The guy in the video who's doing the interviews (I'm behind the camera) used them at a conference he presented at a couple of weeks later. I decided to post them just in case they'd be useful for somebody else.
You're right, I should rephrase. The people we interview were random, however, we identified the general content of the questions before the interview began.
