It's funny, I learned all of this in AA. Yep, many of Eckhart Tolle's ideas come from the big book of AA! I hit bottom and had a spiritual awakening in a hospital after an attempted suicide. I learned alot of this along the way. The AA big book is simply a watered down version of the bible put in terms I could relate to. Both of the books I mentioned have been around much longer than Eckhart Tolle...
If people had more time to think these kinds of thoughts and weren't so caught up in the rat race do you think we would solve some of our deeper problems? Maybe not all of them. There's always a limit to how much we can sit and think. There's a limit on how much we can do too. But sometimes I wonder if we're like a hamster on the wheel that never had the chance to think more than 1 or 2 thoughts before the wheel catches 100% of its focus.

The other funny thing is, you can overcome fear in an instant by simply choosing to do so. Ask anyone who suddenly had a gun pointed at their head or had a dog charge at them from out of nowhere, yet instead of reacting in fear, they had a moment of complete peace and calmness. This is because they were snapped out of the fear-coma...something sudden that would typically cause fear actually caused the opposite - peace. Their "Higher Self" took over and reacted in a way that was life-preserving
One more thing about thoughts...fear is the ultimate scrambler of thoughts. Fear freezes up creativity and meaning and therefore when you feel fear, your thoughts are not creative and meaningful, they are spurradic and zipping around in your mind like bottle rockets. Fear is basically the ultimate destroyer in general; pick out any thing in life that is being destroyed and the culprit can almost always be singled down to fear. And the funny thing is, fear isn't even real, but it can seem real.
while, unless you choose to create one. The question is, does the thought serve you? Is there any purpose to the thought; are you being coherent and is the thought productive toward something of meaning for you, or are thoughts just random and spurradic? Those who are unclear of their Intention become confused by their own thoughts, and eventually they lose control of their mind...it always comes back to Intention. Do you know what you desire? Do you know what's meaningful to you?

The thought that you have something to attain is somewhat of a barrier, our original nature is "enlightened". There is nothing to attain in the first place. i have meditated for awhile in different ways also. This was another great method to grasp and use. I have experienced a gap once and really understood this concept. I believe my past knowledge and other methods helped me to grasp this better. Its another technique I dont understand why people are acting like its some type of religion. If anything its eastern philosophy where most great teaching come from.

You actually have it backwards...when you become enlightened - what Jim is describing here - you don't need to worry about anything. You follow your instinctive desires and your inner voice and what will be is what is supposed to be. Obviously you still have bills and work ect, but you can constantly shape your life to your liking- maybe get a new job that you really love which supports your basic needs. I'm in debt and I know for a fact I'm happier than many very rich people.

You know, it's funny, I haven't done any drugs, but I live in that mindset on a day to day basis, and let me tell you, the first time you feel that? The first time you realize how free you are, it is amazing! You feel complete indifference to the world on every subject. It doesn't matter how much or how little you have to offer to the world, you just ARE! But then.. then that feeling follows you around everyday. Everyday you use that feeling as a defense in this world that looks to cut you down.

@jenningsbg ..he is basically talking about the same experience,its not particularly hard,with a bit of discipline or the correct conditions,to experience what hes talking about....the difficult bit is to let go permanently into this non-dual experience,i have found it effortless for weeks at a time then i get "shocked"back into my body,not trying to chase this experience but being open to it you find it comes back more an more easily..Namaste.

They see this as a sign of weakness, but it really is not, it's a sign of wisdom, of someone that sees this as a sign of strenth.

You actually have it backwards...when you become enlightened - what Jim is describing here - you don't need to worry about anything. You follow your instinctive desires and your inner voice and what will be is what is supposed to be. @OxYFord7950 Man has a hard time to evolve. Not every body can evolve. We all make mistkes on occasion, but if someone ca'nt admit it and lie about it, this person is not ready to evolve. Only the ones that admit that they made a mistake evolve. Couples, when seperated, rarely they will say that it's their fault. They see this as a sign of weakness, but it really is not, it's a sign of wisdom, of someone that sees this as a sign of strenth.

Sorry, you're way off.
Spirituality can't evolve, you have to ask yourself, what is spirituality and does it evolve?
intelligence is not understanding.
Our next movement has to be psychological, which will put intelligence where it belongs
in the computer.
