thats probably the coolest thing ive ever seen. you can all do it too. just gotta pratice and screw around. i hate it when people like the guy with 39 thumbs up in the comments say that only jordan rudess can play something like that. anyone can. just gotta practice and have really really really sweet keyboards and alot of money.
This is an awesome Keyboard. I wonder if it's the same that Flake Lorenz uses on Rammstein's song, "Morgenstein". Kudos to Jordan! He should team up someday with Adrian Belew. :)
@FireRagnarok if you want to take it to this level, type "Jordan Rudess Continuum spectacular" in the search bar and see the first video that comes, and look for my comm.
there is alot of bach influence here ... in the verse sections i will call them....the contrapuntal lines and the structure of his harmonies.. personally i think this is the best i've ever seen rudess play., i dont think this was improvised.
You guys should try listening to some of Mozart's orchestral masses. Listen to "Coronation Mass in C". Has some of the same melismatic phrasing that Rudess is using in this inspiring piece. In fact, you would probably appreciate a lot of Mozart Symphonies and concerti that use the same type of scales an haromonies heard here. Check out Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, Prague Symphony, Symphony No. 40 in G min., Try 'em out!
i know bach very well, i've been playing pieces by him for about 11 years now. do you play an instrument?
by the way, in "keyboard wizardry" rudess mentions bach as a a great influence. and i can clearly hear the reference in this piece. where does he mention "enya"?
3. He can mention Bach as an influence but...His music doent show it.
4. He doesnt mention Enya, but it is not an outrageous comparison. I just saw the first comment here and it says the same. Another one compares it to 10 Enyas. Maybe you are the only one who compare it to Bach. Look for any video of Enya but I warn you is the same shit.
either way, if you have nothing better to do than complaining about rudess fans in a rudess video (!), you should get a fucking life. who do you think cares about your meaningless opinion?
i wouldn't totally dismiss bach influencing his music. i admit i haven't heard enough bach to say much but if someone hears bach influence in this you shouldn't put them down for it just because you don't.
@ironwolg ok, let's just say that Rudess is trying to play barroque but to say he is trying to play in Bach style is a bit of stretch of the imagination. I dont even compare it to barroque since the comparison is to easy to be made: some contrapuntal voices...BUT thats not the esence of baroque. He sounds more like Enya...and I am not the only one who made the comparison.
You know guys, there aren't really words to describe him. A word above epic ?! well, there is one, a new expression. This is just RUDESS. his talents are mindblowing. We sould start worship him :p
Wow this song gets really intense, its so amazing. The sad part is that he is just messing around and most people cant even write something that good if they tried.
I think that JP does have a tendency to show off at times and I wish Jordan would try to do the same. His spots in Octavarium and Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence are simply amazing. Hopefully the new album will have equal parts of awesomeness. How about some love for John Myung?
Yeah! you are sooo right , i totally agree, have you seen the new video, "A Rite of Passage" the camara is always focused on JP MP and JL it looks like myung and rudess doesn´t even exist.
I am an average keyboardist, I believe, and I must admit that when I play the keyboard for improvisational purpose, it always turns out a lot better than when I actually put a lot of work into my compositions and make them really, really complex. I believe it's something about the magic of improvisation than anyone can do.
But Jordan Rudess is something really special. Talented and gifted for sure, so I have nothing to say that could ever put myself up against him.
@masterd000 I'm very much the same, sometimes I wish all my improvisation was just automatically recorded. Not that all of it is great, not at all, but sometimes I really impress myself and then can't reproduce it. It's saddening. =(
@Vulturer Yeah, I figured, but I thought the question wasn't necessarily entirely rhetorical. Some could really be asking themselves that, so I answered.
I'm beginning to think that Jordan is more entertaining by himself than with his band. Not putting down DT, but darnit he seems to overshadow the rest of them sometimes (to me at least).
All lies: Petrucci is timeless. His 'birthday' is but a construct, an attempt at humanizing this deity, bringing him to the level of us mere, pitiful mortals.
And people thought the Hadron Collider would cause a black hole. Like you said, it's the Petrucci billion-notes-per-second that will cause a black hole. But then at least Rudess can play the apocalyptical music, huh?
jordan makes this thing look really easy to use... which, as someone who has spent far too much time working with the vp-550, i'll tell you that it's really hard to make it sound this good.
The tone the synthesizer gives his voice makes it sound very Nintendo-ish (I'm thinking Zelda: LTTP here). Fucking epic. Ranks up there with the real thing (Gregorian-style chants and such).
