Also, this game was supposed to be the successor to Sonic 1, because it didn't feature Super Sonic, unlike Sonic 2 and 3. As well as that, it was in production in Japan for a lot longer than Sonic 2 was. Sonic 2 was being made in the US, while Sega of Japan worked on CD. A certain reason why might be because they had the CD attachment before the rest of the world, or they were thinking ahead, lol.

Just as a pont of accuracy for your comment on saves--the Sega CD unit has an internal battery-backed memory that allowed you to save a certain amount of info (measured in 'blocks', IIRC.). As long as you applied power to the system every so often, it'd keep those batteries charged. You could also get a cartridge that went into the Genesis cart slot that provided another...512 blocks, I think it was...of storage, same battery deal.

Why do people like the Japanese soundtrack so much? It sounds like shit. It's too much of a 16-bit influence. SEGA CD was meant to feaure CD quality audio. The US tracks meet this goal. The US tracks also give the game a more serious tone.

I prefer the US soundtrack 10x more than the Japanese soundtrack. Tidal Tempest is the only one from the Japanese soundtrack that sounds like it fits as good as the US version of the level.

ever since this game sonic cd started the chaos emeralds first called there name but they were orginal called time stones.And when the games series grew once you get all 7 chaos emeralds you become super sonic if you get a chance to check the other games of sonic you can see about it.

I think Sonic 2 is better than Sonic CD, in terms of level design, bosses and graphics (Sonic CD is full of weird colors). However, Sonic CD's music is awesome.

Don't feel too bad about not getting all the timestones, Sonic CD is probably one of the harder 2D sonic games to get a good ending on. Besides needing all the timestones, you need to make a good future each zone, which means going into the past on every single level (except boss levels) and destroy every machine (look at 4:15 to see what I mean). If you do that on the first 2 levels of each zone, the boss zone will change (different look, different music, but same boss.)

IIRC, it's either-or. You can get 'Good futures' on all levels, *or* you can collect all the time-stones. You don't have to do both...but you can't mix and match either.

You have to get good futures on all levels... but once you get all the time stones, it gives you a good future automatically. So, you only need to go back and destroy the machine on seven acts.

If you are running out of lives on the Sonic race, just super-peel-out up a ramp to the loop's left and jump at the apex to reach a platform on the far left with speed shoes and an extra life. If you dies, you can get that life again. It re-spawns, so you would never get a game over.
