  • Great song! anybody understand the lyrics and/or the video? That girls seems too young to be married. Is this about a woman thinking about how her life changed when she was married off when she was 12 or something? It wasn't very long ago that child marriage was practiced in India.

  • this song is such a beautiful song a very dear friend introduced me to this music and i will never forget hhim or the music i miss my friend but i will always remember him through his native music

  • speechless:)............

  • it's strange ... this interpretation of the song. i mean, we still sing this at weddings .. but way more cheerful. this is like a reverse interpretation. perhaps like what a bride is feeling while the everybody is singing this song.

but nevertheless. it's very relaxing and soothing.

  • I have always loved how this video shows the reality many face - outliving all they love. She is alone but, happy with her memories. Looks like a wonderful relationship with her Dad. Carefree childhood. An arranged marriage.

  • awesome....

  • i think this song represents how the older lady was young and she became older and went through life but she kept alot of her memories and belongings!

  • @TqFinax a heart for a heart it's the same bargain. dil dana atay dil mangana

  • beautiful song for my yoga practice!

  • This is an awesome song.. even though I don't understand the words

  • Now old, the lady muses over the little bargains and compromises one makes as people move on in life.

In the translation that Ciruelasjabonosas provided from Nirajs website, perhaps the refrain sentence parallel compromise (sauda iko jia~h) should have been translated instead as a balanced compromise or an almost equal deal . That would have translated better from Punjabi to English. Song done beautifully, and beautiful selection of lyrics. Thank sfor uploading

  • The man who plays the grand father is my father! wow, it made me cry. And i don't even understand a word.

  • it doesnt matter if you understand the music or not, all it is is the feel. Do you feel good, bad, sad, extravagant when listening. its all that matters

  • wow. wonderful.

  • I must crying.. :(

  • ^o)

  • There u go, here is the translation from Nirajs web:

    My Gold bangle

    My parallel compromise

To yield a heart or entrust your heart

    Its all a parallel compromise

Whatever passage you see fit to walk

    Is a parallel compromise

To yield a heart or entrust your heart

    A parallel compromise

  • In our eyes where dreams are birthed Where love is displayed so majestically And those who have seen now embracing it May they always be joined with love? Remaining as is, and never parted Close to love If you dwell in my heart my sweet If you dwell in my heart Its a parallel compromise If I dwell in yours Its a parallel compromise

  • omg my favorite song !!!!

  • Is this Arabic or

    Punjabi??

    Thankss

  • If anything this is not Arabic. It's probably some Indian dialect, so perhaps it's Punjabi. I'm not so sure myself. But all I know is this is not Arabic.

  • It is Punjabi. And the words of the song, along with their meaning in English, are...

Weh sonay deya kangana, weh kangana!

(O bangle of gold, bangle of gold!),

Weh sonay deya kangana, weh sauda iko jahya..

(O bangle of gold,O it's the same bargain..)

Dil dena atay dil mangana, weh sauda iko jahya!

(to give heart and to ask for heart, O it's the same bargain!)

Jis gali tu langhna, weh sauda iko jahya!

(the street you will pass, O it's the same bargain!)

  • thank you. i really appreciate it. How much different are the dialects of Hindi and Punjabi? I wish to learn Hindi, but I am having a bit of trouble finding a means to do so.

  • woh wot a weeeet song. Originally old pakistani song sung by Noor Jhan. I m more impress by dis version. I cant listenen it again n again. Some time it make me cry when i remind my own childhood of back in Pakistan!!!!

  • such a soulful beautifu song!! dis song shows emotions of middle age woman n her journey of life..carefree childhood, loving family members n den her transformation as young woman wen she gets married... her bangles reminds her of all dese and evokes bittersweet memories...i being Indian girl can connect wid every emotions potrayed...thx for posting it

  • How very beautiful! I've watched this video many times, and each time, I cry.

  • Just BEAUTIFUL, bittersweet song.

  • question if you dont mind. I love this song, but I dont speak the language, anyway you can tell me what the lyrics are or where i can find them( in english). I have looked on the web and have had no luck. I also have this vid on my page..so beautiful. Thanks

  • Hey, me too! Let me know if you find a website, okay?

    Thanks, Debrajean

  • This is a folk singer from Punjab. Too bad she's more or less unknown in the whole of mainstream Indian music.

There are gems of singers in the rural and tribal belts spread across India, that we never hear of. That too, in India, leave alone the rest of the world.

  • simply beautiful!!!

  • a really nice melodic song!!!

    kool

  • im indian well mixed . its very fasanating and it touches my heart how she got an arranegd marraige in the vid. i love how theycapture the beautiful sun along with the fields. so hear touching!

  • i think its about the lady reflecting on when she was a young girl gettin married and like the bangles when she was younger she looked at them and was sad and then when shes older shes appreciating their meaning. its really beautiful

  • and she has to go live with her husbands new family and be torn away from her father who is her inspiration and they miss one another so much. the bangles were a gift from him to never forget

  • The song is melodious but it is about 'Child Marriage' clearly as the couple getting married in the Hindu tradition dont look over 18 at all. Thats sad ! Isn't it ?

  • Wow, do always draw interpretations out of arse all the time?

If you can help it, quit being an idiot. The girl in the video has been portrayed at different stages in her life, not just her childhood.

Child marriage, Hindu custom? In the old days even Europeans married at tender ages. It mattered that you did, when the average life expectancy was about 40. Read up sometime.

Oh and Rajni... you sound Indian.

  • Oh even u think from ur arse, coz u identify. Huh ! Who is an Idiot !! The girl even if portrayed at different stages was a 'child' when she got married. Thats what I call, 'Child Marriage'. And I wasn't comparing data with European history at all. Yes, I'm an Indian, any probs with that ? Gosh, you people make me sick ! Thanks !

  • No, that's not a child.

You're a bigger retard than I thought if you can't see the changes the video is attempting to portray.

PS: The director is not going to wait 8 years for the girl to grow up and be shot as a real woman.

Pull your head out of your arse, slowly, now.

You have issues, and arrogance would just be the tip of it.

  • Beautiful, made me cry...

  • c'est une très belle mélodie. je ne sais pas de quoi parle cette chanson mais elle me touche beaucoup. si quelqu'un a la traduction ce serait sympa de la mettre ;-)

  • Bangles in Indian culture represent marriage and the bride after her marriage always has bangles on her arms. In this song the singer is singing that "the gold bangles have been sold" in the context that "the marriage has been arranged" or fixed.

  • dont understand a word , but wot a good song , love the way its put together.

  • so beautiful.. :')

  • वाह!! nice song!!

  • you know, the elderly lady is really beautiful, you don't have to be young to be pretty.

  • she is a man...

  • no, I don't think so... o__O;; She's not Niraj Chag; Chag had only created the album, he didn't sing it, he got different singers and musicians to help him.

  • this is really pretty

  • beautiful :)

  • Just found out Niraj Chag is a guy... Looked up the name on Yahoo, his website came up, and then they had a link to his myspace... The woman in the video isn't Niraj Chag.
