  • tell me you have a band or something, i want to check it out brother

  • I love the way you take chances... rock on.

  • Thanks sadsack!

Well, it seems like no matter how much I practice; when the red recording button is glaring, it is a different ballgame. Sometimes I fumble, sometimes I do OK according to what ability I might have, but it's always a change compared to when practicing. Regarding this song, the chorus where I'm octaving the keyboard 'thumps' on the upper manual was always pretty close to chance. I did loose the right hand cross rhythm many, many times during practice.

    Keep swinging,

    Rounder

  • Yor da man Rounder... excellant playing! D'oh, if I could not see that they were a matched pair, I would swear that was someone else playing the left hand... :) The part of my brain that controls my left hand obviously needs a good kicking! \O/ Rounder, every time I watch you play I learn something new. Thanks again... Jammoko

  • Hi Jammoko

    Thanks!

I'll tell you, about the left hand and left/right hand syncronization: During the learning phase, for every new movement it feels like the brain gets kicked!

Start with only the left hand, then gradually add right hand phrases. The left hand is the Boss.

I always play at as slow tempo as necessary until I get the left/right hand in sync, then I speed up.

It's really good to hear that you find things that might be of use in your own playing :-)

    Keep swinging,

    Rounder

  • Hi Rounder,

That left hand is really getting fast/good,and i know how hard that is.Anyway,a great piece of music, great playing.

    Happy new year.

    Best regards Kim

  • Hi Kim

    Thanks!

I though I should venture out a bit and develop the left hand pattern for this take, compared to my old version of this song.

Then I also added a few cross-rhythm choruses that caused my brain even more overheating :-) Especially the chorus where I'm octaving the keyboard 'thumps' on the upper manual was a challenge.

Good to see you back, and Happy New Year to you too!

    Keep swinging at your C1,

    Rounder

  • Actually, after listening to and watching this video (HHS), I wanted to ask you Rounder, why do prefer the Nord to say, a Hammond or another conewheel?

    Jeff

  • Hi Jeff Considering -sound (both the B-3 and Leslie sim are top-notch) -weight (only 33Lbs/15Kg) -versatility (a Vox, a Farfisa and a B-3 all in one) -cost (not very expensive in comparison) -connect easily to anything (amp, foot pedal, Leslie, etc) -dual manual (important!) the C1 is very competitive. If I would buy an organ today I would buy the C2, (sampled baroque pipe organ added). There are a number of good clonewheels in the market today though :-) Keep swinging, Rounder
  • Awesome Jeff! Really sounds good.

    Andy

  • Just one word - wow!

    Jeff

  • Thanks Jeff!

    Keep swinging,

    Rounder

  • Rounder,

Great performance! Very clean, great left hand, perfect timing, and you've captured the feel of the original at 2X the tempo.

    Bravo!

    Jake

  • Thanks Jake!

I've heard this song in a number of versions.

It's also called 'Blue Juice', at least when Jimmy McGriff plays it.

But when I go for it myself I'm always drawn to do the song at 2x tempo. Don't know why actually.

So it feels really great to hear that you believe I don't loose the flavour of the song despite the half-maddening left hand bass line uptempo :-)

    Keep swinging at your C1,

    Rounder

  • hi Rounder,

great as always, your left hand playing is even greater. THX a lot

  • Thanks jabadahut!

The left hand topic is an ever ongoing work for me. Good to hear that you find it progressing :-)

The main challenge, though, in my version of this song was to get the cross-rhythm choruses going in this uptempo without going out of rhythm!

The left hand in my version of 'Mr. P. C.' is more complex and was more difficult to come to grips with.

    Keep swinging,

    Rounder

  • why dont you try "dizzy Fingers" ? unless you have tried..

  • ya know, i'll be more on to your videos, because i got a keyboard for x mas, and i wanna learn to play new songs ^^ i'm tryin to do "green Onions" the one you did. i already learned "Dont Stop Believen" and "Mad World", your videos just amke it more fun

  • Hi 44trinity

That was a great x-mas gift!

Just write me a line if you have questions about e.g. practicing (my guide for Green Onions covers a few of them practicing tips though).

And it is always much better to learn ONE song in every little tiny detail than to flub over many! So pick one song that you like and believe is feasible (within or close to your technical capabilities) and go for it 100%.

I pass up on 'Dizzy Fingers' for time being :-)

    Keep swinging,

    Rounder

  • YouTube's audio encoding process introduces lot's of distortion and sound artefacts! Especially for more complex sounds like this dense, swirling 800008888 fast Leslie setting. Unfortunately there is not much I can do about this YouTube problem. YouTube's picture quality is greatly improved, and I just hope that the YouTube audio encoding process also will improve over time.

  • great man :)

  • Thanks knowthetruth!

    Keep swinging,

    Rounder
