It slithered into the grass. I'm like "Omg your sooo cute" and the snake lifted it's head out of the tall grass and looked straight at me. XD

  • that snake was an idiot.

  • That snake said rape

  • awww, the garter snakes are almost "cute" in a way. My mom is terrified of all snakes, i don't mind them, i just wouldn't mess with them. :P

  • even though im a boy that snake is cute! i found one in my garden today also!

  • The snake isn't even scared!

  • @daweadil i think why that is because its still cool outside his hand probably give it a source of heat and the little guy probably didn't mind.

  • there are many in Lawrence Mass next to the beacon courts in a garden around a sand factory, these snakes usualy poop on you out of fear when you lift them up. I have cought a few myself, they are very shy creatures but as soon as they believe your guard is down they will try to escape, they like to rest under grass usaualy dead grass, also under rocks, furniture, ETC. they eat krickets worms and many other things. They usualy rest in packs, most likley were you find one you find a dozen

  • its a male eastern garter snake, late juvenile to young adult age. the presence of garter snakes in your garden is good, they eat insects that would possibly damage your plants and small rodents that would do the same. if you have small fish you like in your pond he will eat those too. great animals.

  • i found a baby in the dead of winter it was wierd!

  • cute snake

  • That snake is not a baby. It's nearly breeding age/size. But anyway, he does look cold. Tongue is moving very slowly.

  • Yeah their cute until you see one swallow a slug.

  • awwww. I want a garter snake but my mom hates snakes. I tell that garter snakes are harmless

  • thats the cutest garter snake i ever seen! i love his tongue and his eyes! so pretty

  • i have lots of those at my house. Should i get one as a pet ???

  • @xXxXChri98xXxX I wouldnt I would go to a reputable breeder

  • Sometimes I find them as early as feburary trying to hunt fish in my heated fishpool. I usually take them inside and wrap them in a warm towel so when they heat up they can catch fish more efficiently.

  • i found a snake that got ran over by a lawn mower in my backyard and buried it :'( poor snakey

  • I love Snakes :D <3

  • @motownkid24 pick it up and put it somewhere else? -.- they rarely bite and even when they do it doesnt hurt, and thats coming from a 14yr old lol

  • I was cleaning our yard today, pulling out some weeds & I saw some of those garter snakes hiding under the bushes. I wanna get rid of them but what should I do aside from killing them all?

  • cute eyes som snakes r ugly but this 1...its a friken dorable!

  • Where do you live? The garter snakes where i live (nor Cal) dont have that type of coloration, to be honest that looks like a baby gopher snake.

  • i catch them in illinois if that helps you at all

  • i love garter snakes very harmless and so cute

  • that's cool! so they don't bite or anything?

  • if thats a garter snake, then wat the fuck is in my back yard??? they're st8 up black and look bigger than that

  • What area do you live in?

If you live in the eastern United States, I would probably say either a Black Racer, or a Black Rat Snake...

If your more towards the west coast, then there are other species of kingsnakes and such, that can appear solid blcak and reach that size..

  • either just a normal black snake or a racer maybe even a rat snake

  • if you live in northwest OH you could find all black garter snakes..melanistic eastern garters....do they happend to have a white chin?

  • Those little guys are pretty cute. I love when it looks directly at the camera and flicks its tongue ;p

it's like o_o with those big eyes

  • lol i have a garter SNAKE and i let it loose in our room and find him later in the morning its funny

  • o.O

i cant do that with my snake im too afraid he'll slip through the crack under the door... or something will happin to him

  • shouldnt do that snake could get away or get hurt some how

  • I caught a Garter Snake when I was like 8 and it ran away =(

  • you mean it slithered away not ran. jk

  • Rawr

  • I wanna get one, but my mom is bitching about it LOL.

My homie wants to sell me his for $15.

  • Just tell her she doesnt have to see it. $15 is a good price, id get.

  • Well I bought it any ways and i have it in my room. Pretty cool, bite me once, but w/e.

I keep it in an empty fish tank with a water bowl and rocks and shit.

  • Thats good. If you handle it regularly, it will feel more secure with you, and shouldnt bite again.

  • Thanks for the advice.

  • Yeah, no problem. Have fun with your snake.

  • you need a hide, heig supplement, and all kinds of stuff not just water bowl and some rocks...watch a video on corn snake care and corn snake and garter snake care are pretty similar;it will give you the right idea.

  • lol a gartner snake for 15 bucks? go to the forest and you'll find one

  • Yeah, I live in Long Beach, California, twenty minutes south of Los Angeles.

There isnt a forest around here. The nearest one is about 65 miles from here.

  • dang lol

I can like go to the park not even a block away and find one XD

  • lol where do you live?

  • canada :)

  • we dont have that kinda weather were im from :)

  • oh i used to catch them when i was little but for some reason im scared of them now, wierd huh

  • That is a wester celestial plains garter snake! I have 2 of them! :)

  • Garter snakes are cute little guys. They do a good job of eating insects that damage plants and stuff.

  • you should have untaingald it and put it in the water so that iut can swim

  • no xxal watever and those are my favourite snakes and at camp me and myfirend kept on i caught as a pet

  • do u need a permit for that snake?

  • It depends on where you live and what type of snake. You need a permit for a deadly snake, like a mamba, in most places. Garters are usually OK to keep as long as they're not a rare, endangered species.

  • where do u live if u just listen its so relaxing :)

  • he looks calm i like that

  • i have a garter snake pet, his name is benny. he has a very good temperment.

  • april 7 :] my birthday

  • I love these guys. I used to play with them a lot at my old house (they had a nest in my rock garden with a lot of babies).

  • So cute! I bet he was enjoying your body heat.

  • I'm glad your comment wasn't Spam when this video showed up with a comment! lol

I bet he loved the warmth. Within minutes of picking him up, he became so active. I can't wait until Spring. I'll have my camera ready!

  • i too caught a garter snake but wasn't very active.

  • OMG! I can't believe it! lol! How can you do that? Wow! I would never ever do that in my entire life!

  • cool snake. I love snakes! they rule!

  • put that mothafucka down

  • an easy way i used to catch them is put a card board box in your back yard or in a canal or something and wait a couple of days and they would most likely be there

  • Wow that dude is pretty dang calm

  • look at this guy. hes just hanging out. bein a snake. smellin stuff. awesome

  • you sound like Mr.Dress-up, no offense by the way

  • Mr. Dress Up ?...

  • YOU DO SOUND LIKE MR DRESS UP!

  • I've found a rather large Garter Snake in my garden and I'm just wondering, besides worms, crickets and small rodents, what else would a snake like this eat, any vegitables?

  • no they will eat fish

    and frogs

  • sweet...howcome everytime i pick up my garter snake he makes some oder thing that smells really bad

  • Just a defense reaction to scare off anything that would want to eat it. The smell is harmless, I don't even want to know what it would taste like . Yuck !!

  • oh man, you should put his as a vid response on my biggest fear vid, ahhhhhhh xjoeyx

  • he has a cute tongue and I love the cardnal singing in the backround

  • awsome pond I put one in yaers ago at my parents house i love it. snake is cute

  • We have a garter snake just like that one. We named it sarah but we don't know if its a boy or a girl. Is there a way to tell?

  • i wish...i named mine duke....

  • It's not easy to tell the difference. adult males have a blunt tail, females usually have a narrow tail and are larger than male snakes.

  • Garter snakes are so cute. Mine one reminds me of a baby dinosaur.

  • omg i wanna find 1

  • me too! i wanna pet snake

  • Very interesting. I seen your vid which you did for CDC & I had to go back in your archive & see your other snake videos. It's so true we don't get to see much wildlife like this. On TV we get a fleeting moment or two. What I found interesting is they speak about reptiles having to regulate there body temp, You could really see that in this vid. It almost look as if he was frozen. Cool stuff!

  • The snake was close to frozen with 40 degree temps in April! I didn't expect to find a snake, was just cleaning the yard.

  • I love the sound of the water.

  • Me too !

It was pretty cool the first time I played the video, and the water was so loud.

  • Hey ... Great video with the garter snake... I grew up with garter snakes in the backyard, and they have alway facinated me, Please find more critters and snakes in your backyard, and share them with us... Some people have never had wildlife in their backyards,,

oh and did the snake stink with that garter snake odor?? I never did like that smell, but the snakes were cool...

  • This little one didn't stink, the other larger snakes in part 2 and 3 had that odor. Since the odor didn't scare me off, the snake in part 3 kept biting at me!

Thanks for the comment! I am going to do more critter videos when I get the chance.

  • LOL!! wow, great head shot!!

that's the kind of baby i'd see growing up...riding the ponies thru the gardens and woods...you took me back there :) L

  • It was sheer luck that the head shot became the video icon.

I didn't think his toungue would be visible, the way it moved in and out so fast!

  • I catch these suckers all the time down my grandparents house in Maryland. I always catch the pregnant ones for some reason

  • Pregnant ones...

Now that sounds like a good sequel to 'Snakes on a Plane' !

  • EEK!!!

  • AHHH!!!
