DD kettlebells are better than a lot of others out there, and are a good way to start as a beginner. However they are crap compared to competition kettlebells. If your going to be using kettlebells frequently, then spend your money for the Competition Kettlebells. Your hands, wrist, elbows, shoulders will thank you for it.
Dragon Door are certainly excellent kettlebells. It's important to note, however, that due to completely ignoring the wider kettlebell world, DD have invented a 'gold standard' that is utterly useless for what 99% of the rest of the world does with girya; namely: competition lift.
DD bells are great for beginners. But when you get the hunger to push toward 10min jerk sets or snatch sets with one hand change, DD bells and techniques fall painfully by the wayside.
This is obviously a push for DD KB's. I get it, she's a rep. With the exception of the small handles that cause the KB to land on the wrist and not further down the forearm and the ones that have a "thicker" handle, there is NO reason these KBs are inferior to DD KBs. Cosmetic flaws can be fixed... painted, sanded etc. Design flaws, not so much. Do your research and get the best you can afford. If you stick with it, and the KB you have works then go with it.
There are some also at Sears by Weider - WORST kettlebells I have ever seen! It's as if they literally chiseled the handle out of its mold and left extremely sharp chips and gashes on the underside of the handle. Talk about tearing up the hands!
I recently (by accident) showed my students the difference btw DD bells and the Cap bells. Dropped the Cap broke off the handle like a twig. Dropped the DD broke the concrete. I should make a video...I think.
Thanks so much... this was SO helpful. I am just starting out and had read that Dragon Door were the best, but being able to see it first hand really drove that point home. Thanks again!
When you buy expensive work out equipment, you only complain once. When you buy cheap workout equipment, you complain every time you use it.

How come you never tried any competition bells? Ten times more comfertable, and so much better to use in so many ways..

It's meant to be rough! If I wanted Barbie or Ken experience I'd buy "smooth" barbells anyway!
