  • HELL YEAH IM THE 33,999TH VIEWER!!

  • Best thing he has ever done!

  • I love this song!

  • Comment removed

  • it hurts me...=(

  • reminds me of 2001 a space odyssey and just seclusion everytime the electric guitar kicks in with the melody

  • sweet quality

  • You know I used to dismiss avant garde stuff as pretentious bullshit, but John during his heroin phase, it just opened a whole new level of music to me. Like, there's no happy chorus and pleasing little hooks, you have to take the whole track as just one stream of emotion into you, the song in it's entirety is the picture you would look at if it was a painting, and damn what a fine one it is.

  • This is amazing I really did'nt think he'd have it in him to write and record something like this during those years

  • I LIVE IN VENICE

  • Ive got a guilty pleasure for John Heroin phase

  • @grUngEroX1993 i can see why you'd think that, when i first heard Nianda Lades and usually just a t shirt i didnt get it at all, it just sounded like noise, but then I came across songs like untitled #2, where you sorta get involved in the song. you've gotta be in a certain sort of place to listen to and enjoy this music, it's not exactly happy spongebob times fun music, not everyones gunna get it

  • @sl1ghtlystoop1d Yeah; in all seriousness, I think people need to realize music is just sound that is appealing to your ears. Just strings of sounds. It doesn't matter if it has a chorus, verse, or bridge. It's all about what you feel.

  • @grUngEroX1993 yeah you do

  • Jesus Christ, you guys are obnoxious.

  • With this lick you recognise John at 0:43

  • @garthmillersienkiewi Ye, it's true, he did songs he wrote when he was 14, it was all on the VPRO interview of Frusciante

  • 1;15 thats a lick from near the end of sir psycho sexy

  • bullshit. it's about dandelions and how he felt when he overdosed on them.

  • I remember buying "The Gift" on vhs eons ago & while I loved watching Jane's Addiction's performances, this song always stood out to me. I also remember trying to play it on guitar & it never quite sounded good, but this track's always been in my head. Beautiful, haunting, melancholic? Who cares, Frusciante's a genius.

  • 1:14 = outro of sir psycho sexy

  • @1262344 u know ur stuff dude.....that riff is the best part of sir psycho IMHO

  • @1262344 oh shit never noticed that, the chords sound really alike!

  • If someone wants this song and Soul removal (usually just a tshirt) send me a message.

  • u have bomb taste in music mr perry4prez. freed endorphins......

  • :41 to 1:08 sum up the life of a genious entraped in a society of fuckers sucking you for all you're worth, just like the triumphant worker ant

  • correction the NIANDRA LADES was before his heroin addiction & USUALLY JUST A T-SHIRT John was all out on H

  • Perry Farrell named the song Ants.

  • Frusciante is great but not in Red Hot Chili Peppers

  • Was this released on any album?

  • 1:14 sir psycho sexy

  • @FischKopfD Right!!

  • @FischKopfD o yea!

  • I like his striped socks in the first picture. :3

  • what is that sound at like :44 to like :55 orr whatever that sounds fucking awesome

  • it sounds like a gnarly or distorted kazoo

  • i think its a guitar put through a filter (sounds like maybe the mids are way up and everything else is way down) and a serious fuzz.

soudns like his voice goes through the same processing 1:37 on.

  • how does he get that sound in the very beginning. that plays the main melody? what instrument is it?

  • keyboard/electric piano

  • moron

  • this song just demolishes popular emotional genre of music "emo"

rapes the hell out of whining songs

  • @MayorsOffice881 you fucking idiot its already official

  • @mikolene97 okay! jeez, it was a month ago when nobody knew anything about it! damn!

  • John Frusciante going out of the RHCP and Klinghoffer in :-(

  • where did ya hear that?

  • That's not necessarily a bad thing. Josh has a good voice and I'd like to hear the new Chili Peppers sound because they always change with a new guitarist. Plus John still makes his music which is just as good anyway.

  • What you're saying is completely incorrect. John made these exclusively to trip out on. He didn't even consider releasing these to the public until a few friends such as Johnny Depp suggested it. ALSO the definition of "a masterpiece" is entirely relative. Personally, I see this song as a masterpiece. no other artist has been able to make me feel such powerful and pure emotion before JF came along. Not all masterpieces have to come in an organized package like in RHCP.

  • @dieselthediesel No he admitted making it for drug money. He even took if off the market, being ashamed of it.

  • He said that yes but for Smiles album. Not Niandra.

  • When he's on tour he plays songs from smile so he can't be THAT ashamed of it.

  • nope what you said is wrong. he made this song in niandra lades. like diesel said a few friends suggested he put the album out to the public. what your talking about is smile from the streets you hold. thats the album where he needed drug money. these song were made before and after he quit the chilis. so he wasnt doing herion a lot like for smiles.

  • @IntracialFash3l I acutally agree with you.

  • where can i download this

  • Watch Jane's addiction The Gift ...that's where the song is from.

  • this song is one of a kind. Nobody can make a song as emotional and thrilling as John Frusciante.

  • - I think this song is genius, he toys with so many emotions and sounds in this song, its crazy! This song builds anticipantioin, sucks you in and then enthralls-- excellente mr john frusicante.

  • agree

  • Comment removed

  • This reminds me of the Untitiled stuff on Niandra La Des, what album is this on?

  • It's on the cassettes of Niandra I believe, not sure on that though.

I AM pretty sure that it was recorded somewhere around the same time though.

  • yes its only on the cassette version of Niandra.

i think they didnt put it on the cd because cds can only hold a certain amount of min on them and i guess the cassette version was overload on the cd so he had to take a few song off. but he should have put this song on it.

  • Nope, actually the reason was that people did not buy cassettes anymore because of CD-s growing popularity. I agree with You on the part that it should have been on the CD because this song is simply great

  • this is off the Niandra Lades cassette. the Untitled Stuff is actually all from Usually Just a Tshirt, but theyre combined anyways so it doesnt matter

  • fantastic

  • great description

  • It's too distorted. He cleans up nice though, with the summertimes boy hircut.

  • it's too beautiful.

  • If you heard the story correct, this song was one he made ages ago which some guy came across asked John if he could use it for his independent movie, John didnt have a name for it at the time, then randomly decided to name it "Ants". Not wrong tis of one of his interveiws i came aross on YouTube. John is god.

  • wasn't the "some guy" Perry Farrell and the "independent movie" was Perry/Jane's Addiction's movie, "The Gift"?

  • Yes. The scene in which it's used shows a bunch of ants crawling across an apartment, to show the disarray of a place where junkies live.

  • amazing

  • This might sound strange, but whenever I hear this song I think of a ship in the middle of a rough storm.

You could compare his body with that ship, his life was in such a hard period back then.

  • to the person who uploaded this, i don't think John was strung out on heroin when he made this. when John wrote and recorded Niranda LaDes he was just smoking pot. thats what John said himself in interviews

  • this song is about heroin, frusciante said that everytime he injected heroin, it felt like loads of ants were running up and down his arm...maybe ur right tho..thanks anyways

  • el nunca dijo eso, esa cancion no tenia un nombre en especial fue el vocalista de janes adiction quien le puso ese nombre, john acepto por que le parecia bueno, thats all

  • Perry Farrell actually named the song.

  • and its in P.Farrels movie "Gift" !!

  • @shaunmurphy221 he didnt name it ants it was the producer of a film he got this song into. he originally didnt have a name for this song

  • @shaunmurphy221 In a interview he didn't have a name for this song, and when he gave it to a friend to put it in his movie, he suggested Ants, and John said sure

  • @shaunmurphy221 wrong he didnt come up with the name of the song, a movie producer/director did

  • @shaunmurphy221 Maybe its about heroine, but someone else named it ants for him, one of the people in charge of the movie it was in

  • @shaunmurphy221

Listen to the lyrics again !

  • @shaunmurphy221 The name "ants" was not even given to the song by John, get your facts right

  • @lukat93 im only saying what i heard, ever heard of the term "dont believe everything you read" and dont tell me to go get my facts right you ignorant twat

  • @shaunmurphy221 shut up asshole

  • @lukat93 oh great response, round of applause everyone.

  • @shaunmurphy221 yeah, eat crap too

  • @lukat93 ok now I have to laugh, what age are you? 10?

  • @shaunmurphy221 you win. lol

  • I was pretty sure he wrote Niandra quite soon after leaving the Chili's and at that time he was doing loads of heroin.

  • about half of niandra was written when he was in the peppers, and the other half was written after he quit, there are maybe 7 songs on it that he wrote when he was "strung out on heroin"

  • @RacismIsSchism Some songs where made before the chili peppers also

  • @noelhassling that appear on Niandra? i didn't know that, i though all the songs were recorded during blood sugar and after

  • Are you kidding me? listen to the song. how could he record something like this without being on heroin?

  • are you serious

  • i dont get why rich n famous people who tell everone theyre doing drugs dont get arested n shet

    unless he did get arested

  • Its a proven fact, John Frusciante was his supliers one and only buying of the finest persian herion, he would sit in his apt. and write music and do heroin, and nothing else. When the members in RHCP finally got fed up n went to his apt to convince him to come back to the band they said his skin was literally hangihg off his body. But he turned him self around and completly changed his style, which gave us most of the new chilli pepper music, we can thank heroin for that.

  • proven by whom? what is the source?

  • @sunwater16 ok fair point.

  • @shaunmurphy221 the reason why this song is called ants has nothing to do with that... see this link: tumblr.invisible-movement [dot] net/post/1533938072/i-saw-a-rough-cut-of-gift-in-the-early-days-like

btw sunwater is correct, john finished this album before becoming a hardcore junkie

  • @shaunmurphy221 He wrote about half of it off heroin, about half on.

  • @sunwater16 actually that's not it...what john said was that all tracks on niandra lades and from those recording sessions were recorded/written before he left the peppers, mostly around the bloodsugarsexmagic recording/touring...and honestly i think he was already doing heavy drugs by then...

anyhow they aren't from the whole heroin-addict, VPRO interview period.

  • @sunwater16 from what ive heard he wrote Niandra Lades during the Blood sugar sessions, but recorded them while on heroin post chillis, and wrote and recorded Usually just a T-shirt around the same time as recording Niandra. He was quoted saying he was high every second of recording the album he could still just of meant weed still interesting though. Wouldnt take it as fact just what ive heard/read.

  • @yellowledbetterr the songs off naindra lades were recorded during BSSM sessions but at that point he was dabbling and getting involved in heroin so all those songs are heroin influenced. the songs off usually just a t-shirt are post chili pepper days when he has become a full blown addict to coke and heroin and alcohol (which is just as bad as the former). and john said he recorded the album to lie in his room, smoke pot, and blast the musci

  • @sunwater16

    he never said that.

  • @sunwater16

    lie.

    he did speedballs.

and he said himself in interviews that he did speedballs.

  • i almost cry when i hear this cuz its soo beautiful and amazing. it proves he's one of the best g-tar players of all time to write something soo beautiful when your hung up on drugs.

RHCP FOREVER (including john of course)

  • i wish there was a tab

  • this has got to be in the top 10 songs ive ever heard in my life

  • i agree, absolutely!!!

  • i use to have this on my computer about 2 years ago. Since then ive lost it because of a broken hard drive.

Desperately want to find it again.

i finally got round to doing it!

    cheers!

  • This was on the cassette version of his first solo record, but not on the cd (along with a couple other tracks if I recall correctly). Find the cassette if you can....It was also featured in Perry Farrell's movie The Gift....

  • beautiful

  • Feels like falling.

  • good song bad quality

  • um, yeah, obviously its bad quality, you cant get it any better than this, this is the way it was recorded. and it was also recorded when frusciante was on heroin.

  • i heard thet it was done for a movie soundtrack maybe there is a better version good job for puting it on line

  • no, there isnt a better version, just this, and anyways it sounds better this way, it has more meaning. and thanks.

  • @susiq212 do you know for which movie, Id be grateful if you tell me, thx

  • This guy holds every sense of creativity in the palm of his hand!!
