I disagree a little with this. I am afraid Piper has it a little twisted. My Prioritys are God, then Family, Then Church. My Definition of Church being God's people. I may be incorrect but that is my biblical interpretation.
I fully agree but we need to love our families. I'm a big hypocrite when I say this but love is what matters most. Jesus said that it fulfills the whole law. Pastor Piper is the most Biblical preacher I've ever heard. Just one question: how does one exactly idolize a family? Can anyone give me a practical example? Because given the fact how important love is to God I find it hard to idolize a family
BINGO! Give that man the PRIZE! Piper is the FIRST PREACHER I have heard in America to tell the TRUTH about the "Marriage & Family" IDOL. This has been propagated the last 30 years because its EASY. Its EASY for Christians to make believe Jesus wants you to get married, have kids and STAY HOME. But ITS HARD TO SACRIFICE YOUR LIFE FOR CHRIST. Lazy Preachers don't even want to talk about it! They want to GO HOME, EAT & HAVE SEX, then GET THEIR WHOLE CONGREGATION HOOKED ON IT.
I love Piper. I dont idolize him but I thank my heavenly father for men (like Piper) who will take the time to get it right and put Jesus first in their preaching! Good work brother
I definitely agree that we shouldn't idolize our family but we definitely shouldn't neglect them either. I think family is to come before church(listen to Paul Washers sermon on marriage) and until you've established ground in it you shouldnt be a Pastor or even an elder like Paul says in 1Timothy chapter 3...I believe the family comes first...If you don't provide for your family your worse than an infedel and non believer and you denied the faith Paul says
@GlorybetoGodAlone777 The point isn't about neglecting/not caring for the family. The point is about people wanting to be married/parents as an end in itself as opposed to as the means to God's bigger end. The people who think anyone who is unmarried in this life is queer and incomplete until and unless they marry. Bless you.
This it too short to fully understand what he means by not idolizing family. Although I agree with much of what he says on other issues I disagree on his interpretation of being like angels because adam and eve were like the angels and they could never die. Yet they were together and told to have sex and the process would have continued with their offspring forever.
I felt this way when I started hearing our christian radio station, the top station in the nation say, "safe for the whole family"..Everything was mentioned with the word FAMILY...Family is not the new code word for the Christian faith..but it sure sounded like it with these on going promotions.
Church=communion us with God, not necessarily the organization or congregation or community right.
