  • Dave,

I tested the vop9 with an oscilloscope to see how its tonal curve looked like. Playing around with the knobs, found out that with the drive and tone knobs fully maxed out, the curve it gave back was a perfect sinusoid. Just like the one a clean amp gives. Even though the sound was distorted, it felt completely natural, round, organic and a little less raw. Would love to hear your comments if you get the chance to try this setting. PS: Adjust treble w/ amp knob.

    Thank you !!!

  • your clean tone is amazing. can u tell me what compressor you're using in this video? is it the maxon one?

  • @FruscianteFan89 - Empirical Labs EL8-X rack compressor.

  • Dave,

Do you believe the vop9 is good for using with humbuckers or would you go with a different pedal if using humbuckers? Thanks!

  • @mcubau - I use the VOP9 with any guitar.

  • I like this more then the OD 9, looks like you can get about the same tone with it, but this one has more dirt when you turn it to max, while the OD 9 stays rather clean. right?

  • Sorry if dave said it in the vid and i missed it, but what price range is this pedal?

  • @LukeGaulMusic - I'm not sure, goggle it.

  • great strat sound!

  • Hi id like your oinian between this and the od9 i play on an MIM strat back routed no pickguard so it sounds darker than normal into a vox ac4tv clean whats your opinian thanks.

PS righteus demo man how they all should be done!

  • @BladeWaywardSon - OD9, is a much more mild overdrive. VOP9 has more gain and more of an amp-like tone. Both are worth owning.

  • Great as always Dave!

Check out my channel and listen to my own song, covers and noodling around!:) Thanks!

  • No offence, but I have never heard of you before. But I've seen you're rack several times before on internet! Now I've heard of you and nice videos you got! Nice sound and quality, alot of info without getting boring!

  • Dave you are greate! Can I ask you something? Do you have facebook?

  • @cof178 - yes facebook . com / daveweinermusic

  • great review, because of the high-caliber playing. i wish all reviews were like this. more power, dave!

  • i feel like Dave is kinda like Garth on Waynes world. He does a wicked righteous solo and at the end just says "i like to play".

  • Hey Dave, I'm just wondering if this is the same exact pedal as the OD-820 just in a different chassis. Are there any differences in sound? I've heard people say that the OD-820 is kind of a thin, weak OD pedal unless you have some overdrive coming from your amp too, but this doesn't sound weak at all. Thanks!

  • Thats a beautiful strat!!

  • i have maxon od 9 do you think i could get a pretty cool tone with the vop 9 and the od 9 together? i have a fender american deluxe strat by the way

    Great demo by the way

  • i have maxon od 9 do you think i could get a pretty cool tone with the vop 9 and the od 9 together?

    Great demo by the way

  • Hey Dave, I'm looking to buy a new overdrive pedal and I've narrowed it down to two. The Maxon VOP9 or an Analog Man silver modded tube screamer. I know that you obviously love the Maxon but it would be great if you could give me your opinion on which to choose.

  • Blue fade silver (0:46) is the best track off On Revolute for me. i love it:)

  • Hey dave! I ended up getting the Vop-9 as you recommended! Just great!

I'm using as my main drive but also love it's clean boost... I don't want to get another one for that clean boost function, so which one would you run into: Tod-9 or Tbo-9? I just loved the valve idea, but what the difference between then? Maxon's website doesn't make it clear enough! Are the chip the same? Thanks again!

  • What's up Dave? I was wondering if these pedals would sound good if I used them on keyboards and drum machines not just guitars. I'm hoping it could be an economical way of getting analog warmth into a digital signal chain.

  • Hi Dave,

I really like your demos and you are really great guitarist. What kind of echo/delay are you using in this video. I like that overdriven sound with a spice of delay. Thanks for answer.

  • Hi Dave, I really like this demo and your sound as well. What are you using as delay/echo effect and what settings do you have? Thanks for answer. Keep rockin. ;)

  • you're my god...°_°

  • 2:20 sexy inded

  • I have to say Dave, I've seen almost all of your videos on hear and this video is the only time I've heard a lick that you've played once before already. I never hear you repeat yourself in your playing and that's truly amazing.

  • @Botdra - thx man, i can teach you and anyone else how to do it. daveweiner . com / lessons

  • Dave Weiner is getting old! is that possible? I always think of him as Vai's little student.

  • @AngSingha - haha, i love getting older. embrace it and go gracefully I say. Nothing worse than 60 year olds wearing ed hardy shirts..

  • @DAVEWEINER Man that vid of you wearing the star shirt in vai's dvd will forever be in my mind. It's hard for me to see you, or anyone for that matter, growing old. Rock stars don't die. They multiply! :) man good to see you have a positive outlook. I'm inspired to get older now.

  • I just came to re-watch this as I'm tempted to buy a VOP-9, and I didn't realise you gave us a sneak preview to Blue Fade Silver so long before On Revolute came out! :D

  • Superb demo and commentary. I have been looking for a good O/D come Clean Boost for my '68 Plexi , had been looking in the high end boutique basket but this pedal really shines.

  • this or the bbpreamp?

  • Blue Fade Silver!

  • How sound with humbuckers Dave? Im thinkin to buy one, but i use humbucker pups. Any suggestion? CHEERS¡¡

  • @ivaneu - it's awesome with any guitar, any amp.

  • Risking to sound stupid: how come a guy like yourself happens to chose a stock pedal like the maxon.. estimating that you could afford the most boutique and specialized gear.. I'm really concerned about your position towards my question. I'm thinking about getting the vop9, but what makes it stand out of more expensive boutique pedals? Please excuse my awkward language.. I'm German.

  • @bille77 - use your ears and not your wallet to determine what is good for you.

  • @DAVEWEINER good call, Dave.

  • Hi Dave!

Have you heard about Wampler Pedals? They are awesome - especially the Super Plextortion..

    Thanks for your contribution!

    Benjamin, Germany

  • your logic on overdrive demonstrating is perfect. i'm not sure why no one else has figured it out, but your drive range testing is easily the best. thank you so much

  • Dave do a Maxon OD9 Pro Plus demo and compare it to your other OD pedals.

  • hey dave awesome video man. i was wondering about your clean sound. i know its an american deluxe into a bassman but what about pedals. i hear delay but is there compression or reverb? thanks man

  • Hello Dave,

Thank You for Your great contributions,

    they all are excellent !!!

    Just picked up my VOP 9 and it's fantastic : ) !!!

    Admiration & Greets , Gordon

    betterbodyman (Gary) friends with mtymufasa

  • Gotta love the Distressor.

  • Is this set to 9 or 18v?? - do you have a preference??

  • Thank You Dave for letting me subscribe to your channel.....You teach me so much......keep it coming Dave...I'm like a sponge.....LOL

  • Great pedal! Great playing Dave!

  • Hi Dave, fantastic review!

How does this pedal sound with a high gain amp configuration? od9 style?

  • Hi Dave, it sounds amazing and you are awesome!

Would you recommend this pedal for humbuckin guitars? I've readed that it can be a bit woofy sounding ...

  • I'm torn between the OD808 and OD9 and VOP9 can you help me out dave??

  • depends on the sound you're going for. No one can possibly tell you what gear to buy.

  • Sounds great!

Would love to hear a SD-9 demo, :D

  • Damn dave! U are awesome and this drive too! And what the scale that u are using? is a mix, but mix of what? very nice! u r awesome!

  • He's using a lot of chromatics, which he always does. If he wanted he could be an amazing fusion guitarist. He is SO amazing! GO DAVE!

  • hi dave!! i was wondering if you could recommend a nice chorus pedal. have you tried the new eventide modfactor. if so, what did you think of it? thx

  • The Modfactor rules.

  • The Maxon VOP9 and

    Colorsound Overdriver

are greatest drive pedals EVER !

  • Depends what I'm recording.

  • Great review. I have the feeling that this is a very transparent clean booster, but just to be sure, can you tell me how it works as a clean booster? Does it has the mid hump that its characteristic to the TubeScreamers?

  • This isn't really a clean booster. Definitely an overdrive.

  • Love the reviews! Great playing and great tone. I liked the comment at the end with the "almost reminds me of a plexi." Your amp almost reminds me of a plexi too ;) Guess that means the pedal is doing it right. Keep it up, ~A

  • Me again... You´re almost convincing me about this vop-9! But (there is always a byt) have you ever tried it with humbuckers?

  • yes, sounds amazing.

  • hi Dave,

    Excellent sounding Maxon pedal !

I wish I had the money to buy one !

    Stu

  • Sweet tones Dave - I really dig you playing strats BTW !!

  • for soloing i love it when the drive is like half way up...and for the really crunching rhythm all the way up :)

  • I'm curious how these Maxon pedals compare with the Ibanez pedals with the Keeley mods. I have the Ibz turbo tube screamer with the Keeley 4x2 flexi mod and I love it, although it was pretty expensive.

  • i definitely like this pedal better than the od 9!! nice!

  • thats pretty nice sounding there dave

  • Are you always running through the Bassman in your videos? Nice tone, by the way. Love the finish on that strat.

  • yes, 59 Bassman RI.

  • really cool sounds man.

  • HAHA finally a 6 string :D

  • Maxon OD 9 pro + NEXT

  • never mind the pedal, nice playing!!!

  • What are the chords you were playing?

By the ay, been subscribed for a while, love ur stuff!

  • F#m9 (x9799)/ E(x7x99)

  • sounds crunchy, killer tone and your playing is as supercool as ever :P

  • I LOVE the sounds you are getting here Dave!

Just for detail's sake, what amp and are you running the stock Fender pups?

Thanks for the tip on a great new toy to go check out!

  • thx, amp is a '59 Bassman, pups are stock SCN.

  • True bypass?

  • yes

  • impressive pedal...i may replace my tubscreamer with this. you should demo more pedals!!

  • thx, I've done a few on here, couple more Maxon ones coming later this week after the Riff Of The Week video.

  • great sounds!

  • nice video Dave, could you make a review of the Morley Bad Horsie 1 or 2 wah... one of my friend talked to me about this wah... i dont have the money to buy it and do a review cuz if i dont like the sound i would be stuck with it... :S and u vai lol so it will be easy for u lol :P

    Anyway, nice video like always...

  • I might have a slight man-crush on you.

    This pedal is awesome.
