I taught for 4 years and quit because I couldn't stand teaching social idiots. My students didn't have recess at school, nor did they play outside at home. They spent their life on the computer games that had been highly recommended by the school system in which I worked. They could not work together to do a simple science project without yelling at each other when they disagreed. They could not think for themselves. This was considered an excellent school in my district. I home school now.
@ShushLorraine heck yes. there are way more.. I did a bad job of explaining that I know that people that are socially a little backwards probably would be no matter where they went..homeschool or not. I think it is a valid concern(to make sure they get out..sports teams etc.) but there are wonderful people with good social skills that have been homeschooled from day 1.. (my sister in law being one of those people) I f I could re-do this video again I would because I was seriously not prepared.
@TheGreenAppleHome And I was thinking that your kids would socially okay either way. One friend I had who homeschooled had unruly, dirty children when they were in public school AND when they homeschooled. They gave homeschoolers a bad name because people began to talk that that's why they were so uncivilized. I had to defend them (?) and say they were the same in public school. I loved them, but they had a bad time of it socially.
@injoystampin wow! did you watch the whole thing? This vlog was supposed to be about why we chose public, private or homeschool...I was serioulsy tired and so I let my hubby help out- so I wasn't really prepared with the questions he asked- but anyways I am not against homeschooling- how is this shallow?? I basically said no matter what you just have to be involved and love your kids and decide what is right for you. :)
Unruly? Your little angels? NO WAY!! Homeschooling is not for everyone and people are still amazed that we do it. You just have to get into that "groove"!
Oh today is not the day for me to watch this, lol. My husband is taking our daughter to register for HIGH SCHOOL today!! I couldn't do it lol, I have been so upset about her getting so big so quickly. I agree with Neal in a way at five we lose control of who is in charge of our babies lol. When he sd that we turn them over to the state I about lost it because it is true in a way. But both of our children love school so far and say no way to homeschooling.
@jldoroba I know! It does seem like you hand your kid over...can totally sympathize with homeschool- but my girlie loves school too...so for now it is what it is ..can they just QUIT growing up so fast?
I think it is funny that every time homeschool is mentioned people throw the social card. Has anyone ever stopped to think that being "social" is the reason that half of the kids stay in trouble.
@dmdmorris03 true dat! I guess I am speaking from the kids around me that I know...that is the go-to argument though for homeschooling I agree! I guess for me I was in a public school, but that really isn't where my good friends came from- it was sports teams and church- so the "party -popular kids"..kind of being social was never an issue for me. I regret saying "social idiots" that is kinda an inside joke btwn me and Neal..NO kids are idiots and that is not how I meant it.. ;)
we send our kids to public school right now and yet since my son will be in first and my daughter in second come august 17th I do not know if I will keep them there, I am not a big fan on how they are doing things at the school so I am just waiting, maybe homeschooling we will do, LOL keeping my fingers crossed!
@amgross42 yes! I accidentally put this on thegreenapplehome and then was like- this was supposed to be here... what can I say I am a "social ididot" just kiddin' :)

In defense of "some homeshoolers" being "social idiots" -- I've seen plenty of social idiots in public schools as well, maybe even more.

@TheGreenAppleHome And, thanks for the good response. I understand the need to do-over ALL the time! :-)

Well she probably couldn't homeschool because she appears to have ADD, no offense, but this is really shallow! What is the point?
