  • and its a shame what happens to our vets and how we treat em

  • im proud to say im related to the last guy pushing up the flag

  • im part black foot part gypsy mostly english and irish god bless our troops my pa ( grate grand pa ) drove a tank in italy in WWII my nana never met her father ( grate grate grand pa ) he died in the trenches of WWI italy we just found his grave in england 5 yrs ago i was born in canada but i was raised here in fl since i was 7 god bless the USA OUR TROOPS AND US ALL GOD BLESS AMERICA

  • All Marine's know the name Ira Hayes!! SEMPER FI

  • is it my imagination or is the video footage from "Sands of Iwo Jima"?

  • you don’t know anything about Marine lore--Ira Hayes is as fondly remembered as any of the hundreds of thousands of United States Marine Corps members. Corporal Hayes story and picture is prominently displayed at the National Museum of the Marine Corps.

Of the six who raised the Flag three were killed during the battle Franklin Sousley, Harlon Block, and Michael Strank, three survived John Bradley US Navy, Rene Gagnon and Ira Hayes, US Marines.

Good Night Chesty, wherever you are!

  • Gung ho Gung ho Gung Ho

  • It was Iwo Jima fore sure. The sad thing is that he just got forgotten. I guess america dont like indian heroes ore black heroes. Guess you american forgett all a bout your herritage. MOF

  • Im not an idiot but thanks tho, Im rather well researched in History, particularly military. I'm on board with you to say fuck the troops that commit these murders, especially those who join to do so, but you're misconceptions towards people and their motives to join are pretty misconstrued. Least you can do is be grateful that they do serve or our people like you in me would likely be drafted to serve the "U.S."s bullshit purpose over there, I don't know about you but I'd rather stay here.

  • Kinda ironic to say theyre not theyre to hand out presents because we have provided a lot of food medicines and medical service. Its a two faced propaganda effort, but they were fed none the less, thats more hand outs than I've gotten from my government. This notion that you have of "assination squads" and what not is pretty messed up. I've never heard an account of a ranking "murderer" ordering the executions of innocent civilians. By all accounts Ive heard thats a fast way to a court martial.

  • @facelessno1 Oh really? And what exactly do you think they would do if everyone refused to go to war? Not much. Want an example of an assassination squad? Take a look at the seal team that killed Osama Bin Laden. He was unarmed as was his son and his wife. He was killed without a fair trial. Say what you want but it violates elementary norms of international law. The seal team are criminals in case you overlooked that. I think you need to research your stuff just a tiny bit more.

  • When he performed for then President Richard Nixon he, Nixon asked Johnny to play Okie from Muskogee. Johnny Cash declined explaining it wasn't his song and instead played this for him. I would give almost anything to have been a fly on that wall.

  • Ira Hayes was a REAL Marine on one of the ships at Iwo Gima what you dont realize is that we were getting desimated in thousands. Our troops had a 90% chance to die. This one band of troops battled up though iwo gima and raised our flag at the top of the volcano (Iwo Gima is a non-active volcano) our troops on the ships saw it and it made them think hell if they can do it we can. And it Pissed the Japps off and they started doing bonzai charges and sucide. This one band of troops truly saved us!

  • @ej101097 thx for lettin everybody know!! THX SIR

  • @ej101097 Im Pretty sure its Iwo Jima

  • Jar head is derogatory term, used buy Sallors and others who don't appreciate Marines.

  • He died from alcohol poisoning

  • @kingslegion....Call a Marine a 'Jughead' and you'll prob'ly get knocked upon your young ass. My son was a staff sergeant in the corps for 6 yrs. The term is JAR-head. FYI

  • @TheBeanicus thank you!

  • @TheBeanicus bless your poor heart, im sorry you do not understand. it is an affectionate term we Marines call one another it is not for you non marines to use.. perhaps if you understood i spent 22yrs 8mo and 9 days as a UNITED STATES MARINE .. i have earned the right to use our own affectionate term .. YOU have NOT. and i doubt any one will be knocking this marine on his ass.

  • @kingslegion1 Chill! I meant NO disrespect. Didn't you read what I wrote? Are you a "JUG"-head? or are you a jar-head? I'm a Viet-Nam vet and the LAST thing I would ever do is dis another vet. No one said anything about knocking you on your ass, now did I? If you're a long time vet learn to read the damn posts as they're written.

  • @kingslegion1 You're older that 30, yet you two fight on youtube like children.

  • @TheBeanicus How about douche bag? Seems more appropriate for a trained murderer, doesn't it?

  • @TheCatsClause101 Up yours, asshole.

  • @SYDWIRE Does the truth upset you?

  • @TheCatsClause101 Douche bag trained murderers? Why because they liberated the Pacific from the hands of the Japanese that trailed atrocities every where they went? They murdered more men women and children in Manilla when (U.S.) retook the Phillipeans then the U.S. killed with the A-bombs. Most civilians under Japanese occupation dispised them because of their treatment from the japanese and supported the Marines. Of course it's easy for people like you to run your mouth cuz you have no clue...

  • @facelessno1 One was less evil than the other does it prove a point you moron? I can't count how many times ive heard our troops laugh about shooting random civilians in Iraq for looking too suspicious or simply running away. I think the person who has no fucking idea is you ya dumb mother fucker. Fuck the troops.

  • @TheCatsClause101 And I'm sure no one in Iraq would gladly blow your fuckin head off and laugh about it... Yea two wrongs never make a right but unfortunately most of us live in the real world, not a world of ideals.

  • @TheCatsClause101 Believe everything u hear? Most of these are bs and passed around and exagerated. Even if the few were true with 100,000 troops in the middle east you let the murder committed by a few individuals speak for the actions of all the rest? That's pretty ignorant. A good number of our troops are National Gaurdsmen who only signed up because they were poor and wanted an education to better themselves and thanks to Rumsfeld were deployed. Fuck them, huh? Fuck you to then.

  • @facelessno1 /watch?v=7FD1jHueZZc its common you idiot. I've seen countless videos like it. Unless a man is forced to go to war, in other words a draft, they know very well that they are not enlisting to go over seas and hand out presents. It's very evident they're going to be apart of assassination squads. Who gives a fuck if they were deployed? A real man stands up for virtue. Would you kill your family if a man in a green costume told you to? I bet not but

  • @facelessno1 im sure as hell telling from your response you're fucking ready to kill others families over seas. Shit, if these bloodthirsty fucks defending world domination really wanted to 'defend' America they would be apart of the national guard

  • @facelessno1 And like I said if they were deployed or not, a real man stands up for virtue and doesn't follow orders against it because a douche bag that's higher ranked murderer tells him too. So yeah fuck those troops too

  • @TheCatsClause101 Im opposed to murder on any level so don't accuse me of anything cuz you don't know me. It's not common, but it does happen. An yes a man will stand up for virtue, all the service men I've talked and I've yet to hear one that has seen this happen. You act like one commits a murder and that makes them all murderers. Thats like saying a black man killed someone, that makes them all murderers, its stupid.

  • @TheCatsClause101 Sum do, but alot of people dont join the service in hopes of killing people. Besides hate the war not the troops. If it wasnt for the stupid assholes in our governent we wouldnt be there to occupy them. If we werent there than all the assholes gungho to kill wouldn't be there and they wouldn't be killing innocent people. Trust me I hate these stories and jerkholes that murder as much as you do, but lumping them together with every other service men is just simply not right.

  • @TheCatsClause101 Hey chuckles, I served. I was not on an "assasination" squad, and if I were ordered to fire on civilians or captured enemy troops, I have a legal and moral obligation to refuse the order. Nor would I hesitate in calling the MPs on the person who gave the order. I've looked officers dead in the eye and not so politely refused and order that would have endangered me needlessly and the words "court martial" never even came up.

  • @biscuitonia That's nice. Want a medal or something? Yes you were part of an assassination squad and yes you are a trained murderer nonetheless. I don't understand why you feel you have the right to invade somebody else's country ass hat. And if it's to serve the country by protecting it.. then how about joining the national guard and refusing to go overseas. A pile of shit with a rose on top is still a pile of shit..

  • @TheCatsClause101 You need to learn some respect, on a different song I learned a Marine died protecting a child a few months ago so dont say they are murderers.

  • @Redneckamerican5792 I need to learn respect? I'm simply exercising my freedom of speech and calling them what they are. They are trained to kill. That makes them trained murderers. And by that logic they are scumbags in my opinion. Are you really that ignorant? Do you think they're trained to love? FFS the seal team that killed Osama Bin Laden are war criminals. As simple as that. All I'm saying is that whatever they get is what they deserve. Haha, protecting a child? How about killing them.

  • @Redneckamerican5792 /watch?v=5rXPrfnU3G0 Heres a video you might enjoy. Troops killing several UNARMED men and injuring a child (probably died later at the hospital) and killing another.

  • @TheCatsClause101 it said it was not valid but I know there were times when our soldiers did this especialy in Vietnam, only a small portion of them so please dont put all of them in, all of our enemies would do that too us all of them, so when you diss respect a Vet. remember what happend in that video (I could not watch) would happen to you me and the rest of America if they didnt fight for us. =)

  • @Redneckamerican5792 Sorry I did not respond quicker. You haven't insulted me, thanks for that. Look bud, the truth is you aren't exposed to much of the realities. When forces were entering Iraq they shot pretty much anything that moved because they couldn't distinguish the 'good' guys from the 'bad'. I'm sure you've been taught to respect these people as was I at one point but the bottom line is they are trained to kill thus simply making them trained murderers. And you have it all wrong

  • @Redneckamerican5792 Those troops overseas 'fighting for our freedom' are only making more enemies. Why would anyone hate America? Well take a look at history and the things that this country has done. You honestly think these guys are protecting our freedom? It's a bunch of bullshit. If you really think that we have to go overseas and kill people before they kill us which is pretty much what you're saying then you're sick. Anyways, keep waving the American flag mindlessly if you please

  • @TheCatsClause101 If you dont like our country leave but still show respect, and if you think they wouldnt kill us you are mindless. Please do not respond back if you do you will prove my point

  • @Redneckamerican5792 Im not saying they wouldn't kill us because idiots like you with that fucked up mentality go overseas to make enemies. They would if they could but they don't have the technology do they? Prove what point? Prove that you are clueless? Well I think I did that before. Oh so you're one of those "American love it or leave it" chaps. You make me laugh. You brag about having a country where you are free to exercise freedom of speech but demonize anyone who dares exercise it.

  • @TheCatsClause101 One must consider that there was always TWO United States: the North and the South ( or maybe California and the USA). The open and the isolacionist. The Before WWII , and the After WWII. Nevertheless, a great nation .

  • @miguelmouta true

  • @TheBeanicus The only way to say jar - head is for a navy man to say it then the marine replies , squid ! lol , from a navy brat .

  • i love this song it gives people hope i think :)

  • Very moving, I feel so sad.makes one think of all the wrongs this world has dealt.

  • how can six dumb asses dislike this

  • Ira suffered from PTSD as many did and still do after coming back from war. not much was known about it back then so he had no help and soon died from his own medicine (alcohol).

  • Why do we call men or women heroes and let them die alone and unheralded and all to often victims of drink.

  • This is in remembrance of my grandfather, Carl Perry, it is about him and I miss him more than anything in the world!!!!!!!!!He will never have more of an admirer than me! He passed away more than 14 yrs ago as an honorable WW2 vet. Yet he has NEVER left my side. And he knows what I mean. Every night I go to sleep he is there watching over me. I see him in my dreams. He makes me proud to be native American. CARL PERRY, I LOVE YOU FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • hoo Raa Semper Fi

  • youra a fool if u think there isnt ther christian?princes, rip ira, johnny, june you ARE missed

  • Rest in Peace Ira Hayes

  • @SkinnySkankZoesInfo Dickhead

  • A great song about a great hero, love it!

  • All of the video for this song is from the John Wayne movie, The Sands of Iwo Jima.

  • WE MURDERD HIM NOT THE ENEMY SHAME ON US , WE OWE OUR VETS AND THEY ASK FOR NADA FUCKED UP HUH ??

  • The part of the video when 3 people are in the fox hole is from a John Wayne movie. Sands of Iwo Jima

  • Yatahay, Ira Hayes.

  • try a billion years

  • peama rock!!! i think i spelled that right?

  • good song but shit quality :(*

  • Unfortunately what Johnny illustrates in this song happened far too often and he brought into the light what had been ignored-the incredible sacrifices of native troops for a country that had stolen their land and almost destroyed hundreds of tribes with disease and warfare and a nation that refused to recognize this. Yes, I am of native descent and very proud of it. Thank you Johnny Cash for your work to help native peoples.

  • This song always gives me the chills, it goes straight to heart!

  • @Ratm78213 johnny cash

  • GOD BLESS!!!!!

  • My father was there and he knew Ira.He was one of the 27 who came back down.He is gone now,but I'm very proud of him.We are loosing them every day.He was a great and quiet man and I still miss him terribly.

  • @sjones66able Are you serius

  • the song doesn't glorify war....its about how america did horrible things to the Indians(all the tribes, even the ones that tried to assimilate) and they still fought for their country in its hour of need....and if ever there was a need for war to stop an out of control nutbar tyrant with terrible ideas it was between 1939-1945

  • A great song not sure it is prowar, could easily be a comment on the way people of minorities are treated which would make it a protest song. Not sure who played Ira in Flags of our fathers, but only true protrayal of Ira was in Sands of Iwo Jima when Ira Hayes was played by a native american called Ira Hayes he played himself.

  • @Lenkellyand1 Or, it could be a comment on real life.

  • Ira you live on glory to the native americans who fought in ww 2

  • rest in peace cousin

  • of all ww2 clips, u use a cut from a john wayne movie? lol, it's all good, this a good movie but ira was mentioned on it at all, the duke is a good man. ira is a victim of oppresion, and victims of oppresion there are many and will always be.

  • @eaglebutt007 quit staring at your navel. He overcame oppression. Dont use the word victim. It is a word of the helpless. Ira was NOT helpless. Shame on you.

  • he's a real hero, not these clowns in iraq

  • @hotmn4u i wouldn't say clowns, haus. I have friends over there. They joined becasue they were poor and couldn't find jobs here. The government corals the poor into war, no one in there right mind chooses to go without damn good reason, like stopping nazi expansion.

  • @hotmn4u i bet Ira would punch you in the face for saying that, you coward.

You're the clown and a fool. FUCK YOU.

  • @hotmn4u all military personel are brave, reserve or veteran.

  • @FlyingFlame7 Right on man. Even the men who keep the machines running, the messages sent, hell! The coffee made! Anyone in the military deserves respect. They all sacriface their time for their country. Which is a lot more than what I do everyday; I can tell you that much.

  • @Gamer0900 IK RIGHT!!!!! your right,even if he's a cook,he deserves as much respect,salute!!!! :D!!!

  • I love how all Pro War songs are country Songs ....

I fucking hate country Makes me wanna Punch Kittens

  • @Rob7194 Look Rob, I have to disagree with you. Not all pro-war songs are country songs. Please check out "Jimmy's War" by Willie Nelson. Personally, I hate war. Unfortunately, when evil leaders rise, it is the duty of sane people of the free world to acknowledge that and do something about it. If we wouldn't have checked Germany in WWII, Hitler would've taken the United States. He wanted to, dearly. That's just one example......War VS Country Music: which is it?

  • "War has all the characteristics of socialism most conservatives hate:

Centralized power, state planning, false rationalism, restricted

liberties, foolish optimism about intended results, and blindness to

    unintended secondary results." ~Joseph Sobran

  • @Apptendo -Not at all. I'm a conservative that understands that the rubber meets the road and responds. I like to call it "reality" which no political ideology "gets". Nice try to attempt to categorize conservatism, however. My taxes pay for war if we need to. I accept that.

  • Just got done watching The Pacific. Good movie. They never mentioned Ira Hayes

  • The English send Gurkhas, Sikhs and Scotts to war (their 'martial races') but the USA has indians like Ira Hayes.

  • one of the best songs old jr ever did, too bad its not one of his songs people associate most with him because its one bad ass tune, rest in peace ira, rest in peace johnny, the world will never forget the man in black.

  • Must say I prefer Bob's version. This is great too.

  • The hognias........learn your history, nobody came and saved england, it was the spirit of the english people and early stage allies that fought of the nazis during the battle of britain! plus the africa scene was won by the english, hitler deciding to start a second front against the russians. usa certainley did help tremendously, but to say saved england is not right. As for ira hayes absolute hero!! johnny cash too!!!

  • @wozzagti You need to learn history. Just where do you think the ships (for those early stage commonwealth allies) and tremendous amounts of supplies for Britain's war effort came from? FDR did all he could for Great Britain and the allies without going to war until Pearl Harbor. My father and grandfather sailed with those convoys from Halifax Harbour

We, the Allies, ALL OF US (Britain,Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the USA, the USSR and others) won WW II. Who saved Britain. We did!

  • What's wrong with speaking German? Is German a bad language?

  • @ZAGGLETON Nothing wrong w/ speaking German, here in Central PA many people know some PA German to 1 extant, which is an altered dialect of German. I learned it on my own w/ some help from friends in Halle an Der Salle. Alot of people also don't know, English started as a Germanic language & imported words from other languages.

  • @ZAGGLETON LOL you cracked me up.. its only bad when you shout Zieg Heil.

  • i love war. i can't help that. it's what i am. i can relate to this.

  • @goldendoomer

You are either are a very young person or a moron. How could anybody love war?

  • @Gnd0 i'm 46yrs old and i cannot answer any of your questions with a common sense answer. moron? i doubt it. lover war? it's like the superbowl of life!

  • @goldendoomer If you love war, go fight in one, you may change your mind when you get yr legs blown off.

  • I LOVE THIS SONG AND HAVE NOT HEARD IT FOR AGES.

  • @77777zula Is it the fact that you love to hate war or the fact that you hate that you love war. think about it..

  • Ira Hayes was a United States Marine, he was not a jarhead (unless you were one of his shipmates), and he was never a jughead. Semper Fi, Marine. RIP

  • So many american lives lost in wwii, the military won was won, but afraid the international greed game did not end. Very disrespectual to all the lives lost for democracy. ls

  • Iam German and I didnt learn about him ...its a sad story.

  • Semper Fi

  • We need more men like him NOW, or we'll be living in the land of socialist states, speaking obama! God help us!

  • Semper Fi...

  • @NocnikFM You are joking right?.... Iwo Jima was a heavily defended and fortified Japanese island in the south pacific.

  • Ira was more than a man.. he was a marine.. his death was as he chose.. but what he did as a jughead is not nor shall it ever be forgotten.. Semper Fi...

  • @kingslegion1 sorry hit the rong button i liked it

  • ERM>>>>We HELPED TOO!!!

  • I don't know if we would be speaking German. The nut case Hitler was doomed to have his ass kicked and they would have never made it to our shores.

  • @Seattle2010ballard he was evil but very smart

  • @Seattle2010ballard

Doomed to have his ass kicked by who if not the USA? He was bombing the shit out of England before we showed up to save them and they were the last country between Germany and the US.

  • Leave it to Johnny Cash to honor a man, well deserved, and not to let the regular guys/heros be forgotten. He always was for the common man and my respect for him grows and grows...Thank you Ira....

  • sweet vid bud ered u get the fottage?

  • nice use of sands of iowa jima

  • The USA has come as far as it has in large part because we're standing on the shoulders of folks like Ira Hayes. Seeing all the selfish behavior in our contemporary culture makes me feel pretty sad that this is what we're doing with the freedom that generations of Americans have died for. It just ain't right.

  • arson, Yea that film puts it into perspective. Ira was a hero...and that government machine still rolls.

  • Splatcat it's actually Ira Hayes not Ira Haynes and its spelled fucking not fuking so before you comment on spelling check yours

  • Its the start to taps actually, don't curse on this thread please.

  • amen!

  • whats the tune played in the begining?

  • not to be a smart ass but how is this a ghost rider video?

  • yes...sands of iwo jima kicks ass

  • I just discoverd the video . The ballad

    deserves an "A" rating.

    Doug H.

  • Ira Hayes raised that flag and it doesnt matter which one he was in that picture. he was a hero. Clint Eastwood's film "Flags of Our Father's" really puts his peril in perspective. OORAH IRA!!!

  • Rest in piece Ira. You did your duty and now you are at rest.

  • Ira Hays was the first guy from the right in the Iwo Gima flag raising, right? I'm pretty sure he is in that picture

  • boiledhooker,

He's the one on the far left of the picture, leaning forward

  • he is the one on the end with his hands barley on the flag pole

  • Iwo JIMA

  • Semper Fi Raiders

  • this is a great song.thanks 4 this vid

  • vid good

    aud bad

  • I really appreciate Johnny's version, though this is originally a Kris Kristofferson song.

  • The Ballad of Ira Hayes was written by folk singer Peter La Farge. Kristofferson and many others covered this song, but Johnny Cash made the song famous.

  • Can't hear that song with out tears...

  • this is a good song.. i bet Ira and Johnny are walking on the streets of Heaven together right now :)

  • @christianprinces101 there no heaven give it up lol, u have to be pretty ignorant and lost to think there is

  • @ghostikailo Well, I'm not sure that heaven does exist, but when I think about all the folks like Ira Hays and Johnny Cash, there darn sure ought to be one.

  • @ghostikailo u have to be ignorant to not believe it,

  • @christianprinces101 With Ira's brothers (marines) guarding the streets

  • The Indian.....

  • The movie scenes are supposedly Tarawa.

  • its most likely a pretty old movie though you got to take that into mind =).

  • Yes, the movie you saw in the background was from The Sands of Iwo Jima. However, John Wayne is not shown in any of the footage shown on this You Tube presentation. I know this movie better than I know the back of my hand. Let me say here, that The Duke never made a bad movie. Thanks for reading

  • dude your an asshole there is real footage then fake footage

  • ira hayes was one of the men who raised the flag at iwo jima good man

  • Who is Ira Hayes?

  • a native indain who was 1 that held the flag

  • ira was a powerful man to go to war he tried to fight for the pimas water right till this day they dont get that god bless ira god bless the pimas (akmel oodhams)

  • Trying to find the Peter LaFarge the first one! Johnny Cash did a cover!

  • its out there i had a copy god only knows where it went, if your really dying for it let me know-he was a heck of a songwriter....................................harpo

  • If was not for men like this We would speak german Give thanks to our miltary be blesssd

    Critter

  • @msinsc1969

why exactly would we speak german?

  • @abraksith I think we would be speaking Italian cuz they were Germany's ally and we would have lost to them too if old Ira didn't do his thing. So it would be a tossup, but the really dumb people would probably stick with English.

  • @aldichiara Actually Italy had fallen to the allies in 1943, Iwo Jima was in 1945. But that doesn't necessarily mean that we'd be speaking German or Japanese if they had won. The only thing it would have meant is the defeat of the allies.

  • @msinsc1969 guys like this and the russians of course

  • @msinsc1969 I'm not sure if you understood the message of this song.

  • @msinsc1969 yes, because iwo jima is in germany :-)))))

  • @msinsc1969 if not for men like ira we'd prob not be here for those who are not what hitler saw as the perfect race

  • @msinsc1969 this dude Ira was fighting japs....not germans...

  • @texasglock Same conflict, different theaters.......learn more history bud.......

  • @msinsc1969 or Japanese

  • @msinsc1969 Well said..

  • American Indian facts: In WW2 the US Military used the Navajo Indian language for a secret code. Ira Hayes was treated badly. A great JC song you should check out: "God wil
