Ive owned mine for 3 years now and the piece sometimes freezes on me non-stop, fucking drives me nuts. Im never buying a laptop ever again. Definitely going with a desktop and if I ever need something portable, Ill get a tablet (not apple) or a netbook.

I have this laptop, I love how it has blu-ray and the design too, I hate how the new F series, the new keyboard with the numeric pad is just too ugly, the only plus is the iluminated keys.
I have a new Sony Vaio VPCF1 and I have to say it's got the very worst screen of any computer I've ever used. Horrible. And the idiot designers put the USB outlets on the front right where they are in the way of the mouse. Don't buy a Vaio. 0 out of 10.

I want to buy a laptop in the near future, with Windows OS, so Mac is not an option for me. I find the Macbook design and quality stunning though. The brushed aluminum, the little magnet snap cable plugs, the glass screen thing etc.
@0906peter you know macs run windows just fine, you can just get a mac and use windows on it, there is no other way to get and eye candy like you get from apple. but if your interested, take a look at the hp envy, there pretty good too.

i love the design of this Sony product...but so sad is this computer just support windows software like others laptop in the market, why don Sony built it own hardware n software too just like apple company did.
omg this is the exact same laptop as mine :D ...I want to upgrade the processor though but then i'm not sure if I should...tis on a centrino 2 at the mo with a 2.80 GHZ speed...i'm thinking it's ok but then will the i7 offer a better GHZ speed?
Athetically I love Sony products (especially the vaio laptops) but both two Vaio laptops I have owned have died on me. I would warn anyone who buys a Vaio product to make sure it comes with a decent warrenty. Vaios are the best looking laptops on the market with some of the best specs, but for their price tag they are way too susceptible to dying on you.
Mine overheated AFTER I cleaned out the fan area and old paste (thermal for the heat spreader) Now I find in July 2010, about 300,000 or so Vaios are recalled for heat build up and melting.!! I never had this problem with another brand, it's back to Dell for the time being. I did buy a new Sony mobo for the K23, but I am VERY leery of that one's life span now.
Never getting a Sony Vaio again. The customer service is horrible. I paid for Recovery Discs (50 EUROS), contacted Sony 4 months later to inquire where the DVD's are, and they said they never got my payment. Bank doesn't have data from last year, so there went that money.

Greenpeace says that ALL Apple macbooks are PVC and BFR free. Sony still contains these. And worse, even though everyone is switching to mercury free LED screens, this fucken F series still uses LCD mercury. I'm upset because if Sony had been more environmentallyf riendly, I'd purchaSE the F series NOW.

@signupsigma I honestly do not care about the environment. My desktop alone uses 1000w, and I use one of Samsungs most powerful 27" LCD displays, along with a Klipsch sound system, with ALL energy star features disabled. I suck more power than my fridge. Environment is not a concern for me.
All the electronics should undergo recycling after use - this is the most important thing (batteries, plastic cases, displays, electronic boards, plastic DVD/CD, etc). If the recycling of the electronic equipment gets close to 100% - our life will be environment friendly.
We may also use "green" electricity, power saving light bulbs, use power saving options of the electronic equipment, etc. That is indeed our personal responsibility for preserving the environment.

Hey man, I would purchase the Sony F series in a blink of an eye if it was as environmentally friendly as the MacBook Pro.
I prefer the Sony design and the Windows OS (because I've never used a MAC before and so Windows is more convenient for me). I'm picky about fan noise and heat, but the beauty of the Sony F series is enough to make me compromise on it. But I won't compromise on Environemt Friendliness that hte MBP provides, which is why I'm researching the MBP now.
If you don't care about environmentally friendlieness, heat, fan noise, go ahead and purcahse this Sony Vaio.
I think switching to a new operating system is costly because you own many stuff tied to the Windows OS already and have already learned most of what you need with Windows to hit the ground running.
I want the Sony over the MBP for that reason, but I dont' know if I can tolerate the unhealthiness of the VAIO. Greenpeace said Apple is most green.

Most likely because the macbook's trackpad is swipe enabled, all you need to do is swipe with two fingers up, down, left, and right. Its' very intuitive and easy to use.
I have this laptop for a long time and it has really very nice design, excellent display, pdf books may be read in two pages at full screen, does not get hot, it is perfect for entertainment and photo&video processing (you see the colors like they are and may easily play with small color adujstments). The included software pack (Adobe Photoshop Elements and Adobe Premier with license) is something highly appreciated - you may easily process your photo or videos (Sony HD camcorder).
The FW series is now replaced with F series (my laptop was bought 2 years ago - the very first series FW11S).
The F series has a little (positive) change in the design, full keyboard, magnesium body, 1920x1080 Full HD 16.4" display (brilliant display, non reflective).
There are customizing options at Sony website (Core i7 or Core i5 processor - powerful enough for every application, other options). There are several pre-configured models too.
i have this piece of art in my house. it is as beautiful as efficient. with 1gb if ati radeon 4650, it plays crysis, fallout3, splinter cell conviction and even dx11 game metro2033 plays on it seamlessly. it is also a powerhouse of HD entertainment. you also have choice of memory up grade upto 8gb of DDR2/3. though a little costly.
dont get this laptop i bought it and the power imput thing is eventualy broken by opening and clising the fucking lid which means in the end it fucking falls off

@Jogonam i personally had a problem with my sony after 2 month of perches and so did 2 other friends of mine and if it happened to them and me then it will happen to others but i worked in a computer repair shop for like 3 months or so and a lot of laptops came in and only 1 was dell and i had a look at the history of the shop and dell was the least that came in along with mac but sony was also ok but not as good as dell

@samsite84 Yes. But the VAIO x505VP Keyboard doesn't even look that close to the this keyboard or the MacBook Air. But Apple first started using the chicklet style keyboard on their just plain MacBooks, not the macbook air. ( the white and black ones) But what i think they're getting at is they stool apples concept of a aluminum body. or with what looks like aluminum. and a Black Chicklet keyboard. Plus this Sony looks just like a macbook pro. So Apple didn't copy them.

Please, list some laptops for me. I'm looking for a laptop with these qualities:
1. Quiet
2. Cool operating temperature
3. Environmentally friendly
Sounds like a Macbook Pro, but I hear that the MBP gets noisy and hot fast. And the "fixed" unremovable battery is disgustingly incovenient. Plus, I'm unfamiliar with MAC OS and would prefer Windows.
I would go for the Sony Z, F, or E series if they were as environmentally friendly as the Macbooks, regardless of noise or heat.

All the electronics should undergo recycling after use - this is the most important thing (batteries, plastic cases, displays, electronic boards, plastic DVD/CD, etc). If the recycling of the electronic equipment gets close to 100% - our life will be environment friendly.
We may also use "green" electricity, power saving light bulbs, use power saving options of the electronic equipment, etc. That is indeed our personal responsibility for preserving the environment.

@bofhd89o everything depends on for what u want the computer if u want a computer for creating things music production graphical design movie creation i would suggest u to avoid mac for example james cameron certainly did not use mac for creating avatar.we live i 2010 and apple still uses the dvd mediocre technology and sony has already put bluray drivers on laptops since 2007 what more can i say apple is just for amateurs

Hey man, I would purchase the Sony F series in a blink of an eye if it was as environmentally friendly as the MacBook Pro.
I prefer the Sony design and the Windows OS (because I've never used a MAC before and so Windows is more convenient for me). I'm picky about fan noise and heat, but the beauty of the Sony F series is enough to make me compromise on it. But I won't compromise on Environemt Friendliness that hte MBP provides, which is why I'm researching the MBP now.

I think switching to a new operating system is costly because you own many stuff tied to the Windows OS already and have already learned most of what you need with Windows to hit the ground running.
I want the Sony over the MBP for that reason, but I dont' know if I can tolerate the unhealthiness of the VAIO. Greenpeace said Apple is most green.

I have this laptop for a long time and it has really very nice design, excellent display, pdf books may be read in two pages at full screen, does not get hot, it is perfect for entertainment and photo&video processing (you see the colors like they are and may easily play with small color adujstments). The included software pack (Adobe Photoshop Elements and Adobe Premier with license) is something highly appreciated - you may easily process your photo or videos (Sony HD camcorder).

The FW series is now replaced with F series (my laptop was bought 2 years ago - the very first series FW11S).
The F series has a little (positive) change in the design, full keyboard, magnesium body, 1920x1080 Full HD 16.4" display (brilliant display, non reflective).
There are customizing options at Sony website (Core i7 or Core i5 processor - powerful enough for every application, other options). There are several pre-configured models too.

i have this piece of art in my house. it is as beautiful as efficient. with 1gb if ati radeon 4650, it plays crysis, fallout3, splinter cell conviction and even dx11 game metro2033 plays on it seamlessly. it is also a powerhouse of HD entertainment. you also have choice of memory up grade upto 8gb of DDR2/3. though a little costly.

SONY IS SHIT buy de instead, i had a dell d620 that was old and it ran faster then my sony vaio laptop (which i might add is a new model)
i worked in a computer shop and the guy there told me that dell is the best laptop to use and its most reliable (especially dell xps)

example:i owned only sony notebooks since i was 8yo and i've never had a broblem with them.but my sisters dell has broken after a week.(i am not sayng that dell is rubbish)

@Jogonam i personally had a problem with my sony after 2 month of perches and so did 2 other friends of mine and if it happened to them and me then it will happen to others but i worked in a computer repair shop for like 3 months or so and a lot of laptops came in and only 1 was dell and i had a look at the history of the shop and dell was the least that came in along with mac but sony was also ok but not as good as dell

@samsite84 Yes. But the VAIO x505VP Keyboard doesn't even look that close to the this keyboard or the MacBook Air. But Apple first started using the chicklet style keyboard on their just plain MacBooks, not the macbook air. ( the white and black ones) But what i think they're getting at is they stool apples concept of a aluminum body. or with what looks like aluminum. and a Black Chicklet keyboard. Plus this Sony looks just like a macbook pro. So Apple didn't copy them.

Please, list some laptops for me. I'm looking for a laptop with these qualities:
1. Quiet
2. Cool operating temperature
3. Environmentally friendly
Sounds like a Macbook Pro, but I hear that the MBP gets noisy and hot fast. And the "fixed" unremovable battery is disgustingly incovenient. Plus, I'm unfamiliar with MAC OS and would prefer Windows.
I would go for the Sony Z, F, or E series if they were as environmentally friendly as the Macbooks, regardless of noise or heat.
