Please try to remember that a vocalist has perhaps the most difficult instrument to play - his own body. You can't expect a singer to sound EXACTLY like he does in the studio, imagine playing show after show after show... it takes a serious toll on your voice. Also typically studio albums have multiple tracks that allow for a less intensive recording of their voice.
