  • Orchestra or Synth...hmm this is a hard choice for me, because both were pretty damn good.

  • Ilos was one of the best moments i ever had in games.

  • With Sam Hulick back on the team for ME3, expect to hear a lot more music like this :)

  • @Squee36 depends on the trailers which are out now... they all have "upgraded" soundtracks from ME2, so I dont think they will go back to this music... I love both ME1 and 2's soundtrack and they fit the games equallly well for the atmosphere.. I hope the orchestra will stay though ;)

  • @Pillen89 You mean the collectors edition trailer or the new pre-order bonus trailer? Because those trailers have new music.

  • @Squee36 i didn't realize he was back on! That's great news! Hopefully that means we'll get a lot more synth!

  • The song sounds good. i have not played 2 yet, I am still working on one. Ijust got to Novaria, the main part of it.

  • I pray for the day i walk into a club and this is playing. I'll probably eat my own face out of excitement.

  • @dragonwolfworm Agreed. I was playing it today, an absolutely breathtaking environment, right up there with the Citadel at ME1's endgame and the Shadow Broker ship.

  • I would love to go back to Illos in Mass Effect 3, even if it's just a side mission. That place was just incredible.

  • Best moments in Mass Effect one right here, in my opinion.

  • Where can I download this? It's just awesome!

  • FYI a similar track is available in the Captains Quarters in ME2. U just gotta keep changing the song till u get this one.

  • Bad thing: Mansell rarely use synthetic music.

And the good thing: Even with classical instruments, Mansell still make it sounds techno/cyberpunk. See Moon's soundtrack, which is the closest thing you can get to a preview of ME3's soundtrack.

  • This, to me, is the essence of perfect Mass Effect sound. Intense, Futuristic, and slightly dark. That synth sound is essential to Mass Effect's identity and I hope Clint Mansell, composer for ME3, keeps that 'ME sound' present in ME3.

  • It's obvious what movie's soundtrack influenced this track. Probably why they didn't include it on the OST.

  • @sankunsama ... what movie?

  • @bombomos Blade Runner. Look up a song called Vangelis, the similarity is striking.

  • @Malikarcanum It's not the song that's called Vangelis, lol, that's the name of the musician who composed the Blade Runner soundtrack. The name of the song you're thinking of is End Titles.

  • @InfiltratorN7 Whoops, I knew that!

    Had a brain fart.

  • @Malikarcanum holy shit! That's crazy... though i bet your right

  • This track made me watch Blade Runner again!

  • That song just make me remember, like i, loved Ashley and Wrex fight through sintetics to fight that dammit switch

  • I hated ME2...

This is only one reason why.

  • Perfect chase music. I love the fact that its playing as you drop in on Saren.

  • My friend let me borrow this game and I never really tried it. Left it sitting on my desk for like a month with a "meh" attitude. I wasn't interested in playing it. Then I got the flu and was bed ridden for a week, so I popped this in. Two days later I was feverishly running around the city trying to find a copy of Mass Effect two. Now I'm literally counting the days for ME 3. Can't wait >.<

  • @BlackWyvernFS Welcome to the club!

  • @BlackWyvernFS Hehe. Yea. I always never did like the look of this game but my older brother bought it on the week it came out and along the week I saw him playing it. Then when it was my turn to play the game... Renaggaddde errdaayyy. Until he eventually sold it..... Not becuase he didn't like it but he just wanted to buy something else. I was like SCREW THIS and bought it back. Very good game can't wait for ME3 either.

  • Ilos Theme Song: Y U NO SHOW UP ON SOUNDTRACK?!?!?

  • The first ME game has such an incredible atmosphere, you get sucked into the game right away. This is one of the tracks that capture that feeling of being inside a hardcore sci-fi shooter/rpg. You really do feel like you're fighting to save the galaxy :)

  • Ah, Ilos. The one planet in Mass Effect that acually had one hell of an environment.

Compared to the same old plain grassy/icy/snowy/volcanicy landscape that every random side planet had just think if Bioware took the time to put more detail into some of the other planets like they did for Ilos.

Feros was ok I guess, driving the Mako across the bridges and seeing the skyscrappers in the background popping out of the clouds was kinda cool.

  • @RetlocLive I don't know if you ever played Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, but Ilos felt like a space-age equivalent of the Forest Temple from that game to me. Very creepy atmosphere.

  • @TheSinndogg I never played Ocarina of Time but I have seen the Forest Temple and...they are pretty similar. lol

But the thing about Ilos was there barely any unique environments in Mass Effect.

Other then Feros having you fight atop skyscrappers above the clouds, everything else was a standard landscape (ex:iceland, grassland).

So your playing through the game but once you land on Ilos and begin exploring...it's such a "holy shyt" moment, like you were in a totally different game.

  • my favorite team of ME1 is garrus and tali

  • Hearing this music while doing the last chapter in Mass Effect I for the first time made me feel a real sense of urgency.

  • To be honest Ilos was probably the defining moment in this game. Just pure badassery. You go through the entire game hearing myths of these alien creatures only to end up on their planet that you believe is the epicenter of it all only to soon realise that the place you should've been at was infront of you all along.

  • I love Tali and Garrus's convo on the elvator.

Tali: Even with all their achievements, the Protheans lost everything. Just like my people.

Garrus: The Protheans did not fail! We'll finish what they started!

Not word for word, but I still smile every time I hear it.

  • @WolfenNights Anything Garrus and Tali say are awesome and make us smile, its Garrus and Tali!

  • I wish they would've kept the synthetic music in ME2, although I still love the orchestra

  • @Suren0 Most of the synth music gave me a headache...but this works just fine >:D

  • @Suren0

Totally agree! Futuristic game needs a futuristic music like this! It adds incredibly much to the atmosphere.

  • @Watinho Indeed. I think the battles in ME3 should have at this future-techno music and orchestra for the epic moments.

  • @TheBIOPRINCE

I personally don't like the orchestra much. For me it could be only techno in Mass Effect.

  • Ah, leaving tracks out of OSTs. Best reason to rip instead of buying :)

  • blade runner mode

  • Back when I was playing ME this track sounded very familiar, but I couldn't think what it was. Then, recently, it hit me: Gary Numan's 'Random'.

Is it just me, or is there some similarity between the two (especically from about one minute into the Numan track)?!

  • Moaa Amazing, When i look back to ME, the ending from ME is the most amazing time in all games i played and its starts on Ilos. Start Ilus with Liara T'Soni that will bring the Feelings blow up to the stars:)

    Direkte Intervention ist notwendig^^

  • I think one of the advantages ME1 had over 2 was its incredible atmosphere. Songs like this do a lot to justify that.

  • thaaaaank you Blade runner for making this possible

  • This music is awe--SSUMING DIRECT CONTROL.

  • This music helped the feeling of Ilos, the ruins, the music, it made me miss the Protheans even though I didn't meet them, to me this is a tribute to who the Protheans were, not the hunt for Saren.

  • @HalfLord I got that same feeling

  • Blade Runner influeces are what makes ME1/ME2 soundtrack amazing.

  • @ulzeraj Agreed. I listen to Vangelis' score all the damned time. It's a masterwork.

  • I bought the soundtrack for this song, and a few others, and this wasn't on it :/

  • Anyone else happen to think Ilos is one of the most gorgeous environments?..

The overgrown, bramble covered ruins of the skyscrapers built by an ancient, alien race at the pinnacle of it's civilization just before they were whiped out and erased from existance..

Something about a highly advanced technological city, from the past, left completely empty to be engulfed by nature itself is really beautiful.

Not to mention the scenery alone and the perfect music to go along with it ;D

  • It gives you the feeling that time is running out!

  • @MrMoterKid Yeah, like it did for the Protheans. Sad, isn't it? And I do agree with Garrus' statement if you talk to him on this mission at any given time.

Garrus: "This place is full of secrets best not known and left forgotten."

  • By far the best score on the game !

  • This 1 freaking dislike is from Saren...

  • Hey everyone if you want to download these songs download real player. Ever since I downloaded it I get a dowlnoad option on all youtube videos and I can convert them to mp3 or what ever format apple uses right onto my hard drive.

  • about halfway through this song, start playing the "Rescue the Qarian" track. Great combo.

  • This reminds me of one the songs on Master of Orion 2.

  • This song is similar to the Blade Runner end theme.

  • @Burkistan Yes, indeed. I was about to comment "Blade Runner called, it wants it's music back."

  • Saren made an account to dislike this video. :)

  • @Joey245

MEAN WHILE, the Geth and the Dredge (Titan A.E.) are out drinking together somewhere.

  • @Joey245 I laughed so... so fucking hard.

  • @Joey245 I lol'd

  • I'm Commander Shepard, and this is my favorite song on the soundtrack. Even though it wasn't on the goddamn soundtrack.

  • Pirating ME is a SIN. With capital letters.

It just feels right to have it on your shelf, to be able to smell, touch, read, and feel the awesomeness that these games represent. Being a first generation gamer (over 30 here) I've never really been much of a fanboy for anything, but I'm working on shipping the novels and a Tali figurine in right now. Yes, ME is that good. Show your support, buy ME. That will show the developers that their work is pure gold.

  • Can't find that song anywhere either, any way to send it or link it or something?

  • they NEED to bring back more of this kind of synth music for ME3

  • Its strange that ME's soundtrack is all sci-fi synth, while ME2 is more your theatrical orchestrated pieces. Both are good, I did kind of miss the originals though

  • @Psychowilly

Apperently, Mass Effect 1's soundtrack is based on the seventies, which had a lot of synth in it, while Mass Effect 2's was based on the eighties, which was very orchastral (probably because 'Star Wars did it').

  • @JoshuatheKodiak According to the documentaries you get on the special edition of ME1, the entire universe of mass effect was designed almost as a homage to the classic sci-fi films of the seventies and eighties. Additionally, the visual style was intended to reflect that of the slightly utopian, shiny science fiction worlds that preceded the darker ones we've seen in the past decade or so.

  • Just blasted through ME1 again for the first time in a year as a Vanguard, I love Saren's "Oh, SHIT!" moment when the Mako comes flying straight at him out of the sky like a goddamned missile XD

  • send it to me aswell, this is one of the best song in the game

  • Reminds me of "Dusty Springfield - In Private" ;)

  • My favorite track and definitely suits Ilos. :D

  • I think Saren disliked this song.

  • @SarahBearX

Nah, his implants made him do it

  • @SarahBearX That's because it reminded him of that time Shepard was hot on his ass...

  • anyone have the track for when you're in the bunker on the moon?

  • I know its been a long time, but do you know where I can find the in game version of Noveria? Seems like all there is that synth heavy track, which isnt bad, but its not what I'm looking for. And by any chance do you have it and could you upload it?

  • In ME1 you know whats right and whats wrong the lines are clear

IN ME2 the lines between what is right and what is wrong often blur

  • The synthasizers in this game gives the music sort of an 80's action movie feel to it :D

  • @EchoBoomer1987

    Inspired by blade runner.

  • This track is awesome! Who's got mp3 ? Please share with me!

  • i remember using the Makos shock cannon to blow away multiple geth

  • It's weird that this wasn't on the soundtrack. Wish I could extract it somehow.

  • can anyone send me a link for this one? please!

  • anyone else think this sounds a bit like blade runner?

  • Just amazing Sound

  • if you visit the bioware ME1 forums, some people have taken the time to convert most of the missing songs to mp3 format. Most of them are short and sweet but its nice to have them.

  • The song is great. It perfectly captures what is going on: you're chasing after the main baddie, he's close to completing his ultimate goal, the fate of the Galaxy rests in your decision, and the secrets of a long-dead species unravels before your very eyes.

It's tense, and enigmatic, and majestic all in one.

  • @Whoopster That makes Jack Wall and Sam Hulick very talented composers.

  • @Whoopster as like the othere ones clearly inspired by the electronic music from 80s

  • @Whoopster :') well said.

  • @Whoopster Yeah. It's dramatic without being being cliche. Sense of suspense, anticipation, and not knowing what you will face, except that it will involve Saren.

  • @Whoopster Exactly how i felt about this track, its very well suited for the level and stage that the storyline is at.

  • I only remember hearing it in Ilos, unless your talking about ME2

  • Maybe Im not patient enough. But, the Solarium (a reward from the Pinnacle Station completion) that has the music player, doesnt seem to play much music.

I think just ambient and elevator music, which was a dissapointment. It would have been nice if they made the Solarium accessable outside of the game, after you finished it, with the ability to unlock music tracks like this one.

  • this is the song ive been after, anyone know if its in mp3 format?

  • Also if you ever saw the ending of one of the DOOM episodes where Doomguy is standing in front of a burning city with his dead rabbits head in his hand, you would really see the simularities.

  • I used to play Classic DOOM games years ago. One thing that stood out about this mission, and the visions of the reapers, reminded me a lot of that game. Foe one, the music sounded very familiar to a kind of techno track you would hear in Classic DOOM. Also, the environment. Apocalyptic and dead looking, those bizarre twisted statues. Also the overgrowth of alien vines all over the place, reminded me of some of the wall textures. If they make a DOOM 4, this is some insperation they should use.

  • It was songs like this that made the original better than the sequel. Both are absolutely mind blowing games though.

  • the fact this wasn't on the original soundtrack was a travesty

  • Anyone watched Hayao Miyazaki's Laputa: Castle in the sky? Ilos reminds me so much of that.

  • This single song was the reason I went looking for the OST ... and it's not even on there! ARGH!

  • Me too! It reminds me a lot of the song Rykross off of the Phantasy Star IV soundtrack (an old Sega Genesis RPG) and I bought the soundtrack and was like, "WTF? This song isn't on there but you put the CRAPPY Illos song on there?" WTF?!"

  • How the fuck do you manage not to put this on the soundtrack... epic fail of failness.

  • Been looking for this track forever ,by far the best track in the game, can you please snd my link for track ?

  • I rly hope they remixed some of the great ME songs for ME 2, cant wait for the release^^

  • Its already out...great music

  • Pre-Orderd and very nervous^^

  • 6 more fucking days!

  • You are a bad person. You should be ashamed for suggesting pirating Mass Effect 2.

  • I only said it's an option...

  • @Naxwell I bought it, but I really want it for the PC..

so I am thinking of pirating it for the PC.

Besides, I already bought it on my 360. Only should be fair.

  • @Naxwell

True dat. Anyone who pirates Mass Effect is doing it for all the wrong reasons, and deserves to be sodomized with a rusty fork.

  • I want mass effect 4 allso so please dont pirate :D

  • @Wasudan uh...me3 is the final one in the trilogy it was intended to be that way from the start.

  • @Naxwell

if he pirates it, he should buy it if he like it's the first 2 or 3 hours

if he doesn't like it after 2 hours he will just throw it in the bin

    what has been lost then?

  • @Naxwell But your not a bad person if you pirate DLC's.

  • @Naxwell

I havent bothered pirating anything but i reckon they deserve it, they got way to greedy with DLC and pre-order bonuses.

  • @dEsSiCaTa You can always...not get DLC or preorder things. xD

  • best song on the game apart from m4

  • wow i never made a comment that would be so popular thanks guys xD

  • I love this song... best song in a very good soundtrack. So glad Jack Wall is doing the music for ME2 as well :)

  • i love the music in mass effect, its very atmospheric, awsome synth sonds... the game was just the best and i can't wait for mass effect 2 :)

  • this is my favorite song from the game thanks for the upload

  • It's ironic it's not on the OST!

  • I wish i could get this music

  • This was my favorite music in the game

  • Forget Star trek,Star Wars,Star gate,just my opinion :)

  • I agree. Mass Effect humbles all of these series! :)

  • Why even bring up Star Trek on a page about Mass Effect?

  • Someone mentioned it, we can talk about other soundtracks you know. Its a comment section, not Nazi Germany.

  • Probably because they're pretty similar. For example, the villian in Mass Effect is Saren, while the villian in Star Trek Generations is Soren :D If you like Mass Effect, I'd give Star Trek a go because you may like that too.

  • @OsanBlackCat5RS you are right for star trek and star gate, but star wars is still SLIGHTLY better

  • Comment removed

  • Why would they take this seriously awesome music out of the soundtrack?

It just rules! It has that finishing game type of feeling!

  • Just rushing trough hordes of Geth, just one shot at Saren and.... then you find out what's the Conduit.

  • BLADE RUNNER!!! xD

  • Yes! Omg....nostalgia...

*goes to watch Blade Runner for the hundredth time* ^_^

  • Great movie, the Final Cut on Blu Ray is sploogtastic.

  • "sploogtastic"

Well I've honestly never heard that one before. xD

  • Ah Ilos, the place where I learned save and load are my friends.

  • Such a fun game Awesome Soundtrack

  • The chord progression here is really cool.

  • very cool track. still bewilders me why so many of these weren't included on the official sountrack

  • Thanks for uploading. I was so disappointed that this wasn't on the OST. It's one of my favourite tracks from the game.

  • Is there any way for me to download this, or for someone to send it to me? I'd pay for it but I can't find anywhere to buy it!

  • Already sent.

  • can i get a copy of the missing songs ? :O

  • Sure, but I'll send it when I finish uploading new tracks on my channel. So please be patient ;)

  • @x3run4funx Could I please have a copy too?

  • @x3run4funx

If it's possible, would you be so kind to send me the missing tracks as well, would be very greatful! :)

  • God it pisses me off this wasn't on the OST.... best song in the whole damn game...

  • Definitely. I wish they would have released a two CD set, but nope, they obviously wanted to cut down on the production costs, since game composers don't seem to feel the product will sell, or their label are tough. Either way, it sucks! Love this music.

  • could i also get a copy of this please??

  • The security bunker on Ilos was kind of depressing when the prothean transmission says, "Cannot be stopped.......Cannot be stopped!!!!!" and then it cuts to static.

  • I love this music from the game same with the virmire music

  • Yeah, sure ;)

  • @x3run4funx

Would it also be possible to get that song too please?

  • I hate it when soundtracks have missing tracks. It's always the best tracks that are missing, it's almost like they do it on purpose...

Well, seeing as how you're on a roll, you can send it to me too :)

  • Amazing song. This song for me was like the anthem of the game. Pure sci-fi epicness.

  • It was great when on one of my playthroughs that this played only in the aquaduct sequences, not in the complex. Cause of a bug or something. But this fits the aquaduct section perfectly.

    Thanks

  • Could i please have this song
