@Squee36 depends on the trailers which are out now... they all have "upgraded" soundtracks from ME2, so I dont think they will go back to this music... I love both ME1 and 2's soundtrack and they fit the games equallly well for the atmosphere.. I hope the orchestra will stay though ;)
@dragonwolfworm Agreed. I was playing it today, an absolutely breathtaking environment, right up there with the Citadel at ME1's endgame and the Shadow Broker ship.
And the good thing: Even with classical instruments, Mansell still make it sounds techno/cyberpunk. See Moon's soundtrack, which is the closest thing you can get to a preview of ME3's soundtrack.
This, to me, is the essence of perfect Mass Effect sound. Intense, Futuristic, and slightly dark. That synth sound is essential to Mass Effect's identity and I hope Clint Mansell, composer for ME3, keeps that 'ME sound' present in ME3.
@Malikarcanum It's not the song that's called Vangelis, lol, that's the name of the musician who composed the Blade Runner soundtrack. The name of the song you're thinking of is End Titles.
Hey everybody! I have released my new album 'Progenitor' which has electronic music inspired by great games such as Mass Effect. You can check it out and download it for free on my youtube channel if you're interested!
This is true Sci-fi music !....To me the part on Ilos where this song is playing ,is the mere escence of Mass Effect ,I really wish they'd kept this song on ME2.
My friend let me borrow this game and I never really tried it. Left it sitting on my desk for like a month with a "meh" attitude. I wasn't interested in playing it. Then I got the flu and was bed ridden for a week, so I popped this in. Two days later I was feverishly running around the city trying to find a copy of Mass Effect two. Now I'm literally counting the days for ME 3. Can't wait >.<
@BlackWyvernFS Hehe. Yea. I always never did like the look of this game but my older brother bought it on the week it came out and along the week I saw him playing it. Then when it was my turn to play the game... Renaggaddde errdaayyy. Until he eventually sold it..... Not becuase he didn't like it but he just wanted to buy something else. I was like SCREW THIS and bought it back. Very good game can't wait for ME3 either.
The first ME game has such an incredible atmosphere, you get sucked into the game right away. This is one of the tracks that capture that feeling of being inside a hardcore sci-fi shooter/rpg. You really do feel like you're fighting to save the galaxy :)
Ah, Ilos. The one planet in Mass Effect that acually had one hell of an environment.
Compared to the same old plain grassy/icy/snowy/volcanicy landscape that every random side planet had just think if Bioware took the time to put more detail into some of the other planets like they did for Ilos.
Feros was ok I guess, driving the Mako across the bridges and seeing the skyscrappers in the background popping out of the clouds was kinda cool.
@RetlocLive I don't know if you ever played Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, but Ilos felt like a space-age equivalent of the Forest Temple from that game to me. Very creepy atmosphere.
@TheSinndogg I never played Ocarina of Time but I have seen the Forest Temple and...they are pretty similar. lol
But the thing about Ilos was there barely any unique environments in Mass Effect.
Other then Feros having you fight atop skyscrappers above the clouds, everything else was a standard landscape (ex:iceland, grassland).
So your playing through the game but once you land on Ilos and begin exploring...it's such a "holy shyt" moment, like you were in a totally different game.
To be honest Ilos was probably the defining moment in this game. Just pure badassery. You go through the entire game hearing myths of these alien creatures only to end up on their planet that you believe is the epicenter of it all only to soon realise that the place you should've been at was infront of you all along.
Moaa Amazing, When i look back to ME, the ending from ME is the most amazing time in all games i played and its starts on Ilos. Start Ilus with Liara T'Soni that will bring the Feelings blow up to the stars:)
This music helped the feeling of Ilos, the ruins, the music, it made me miss the Protheans even though I didn't meet them, to me this is a tribute to who the Protheans were, not the hunt for Saren.
Anyone else happen to think Ilos is one of the most gorgeous environments?..
The overgrown, bramble covered ruins of the skyscrapers built by an ancient, alien race at the pinnacle of it's civilization just before they were whiped out and erased from existance..
Something about a highly advanced technological city, from the past, left completely empty to be engulfed by nature itself is really beautiful.
Not to mention the scenery alone and the perfect music to go along with it ;D
@MrMoterKid Yeah, like it did for the Protheans. Sad, isn't it? And I do agree with Garrus' statement if you talk to him on this mission at any given time.
Garrus: "This place is full of secrets best not known and left forgotten."
Hey everyone if you want to download these songs download real player. Ever since I downloaded it I get a dowlnoad option on all youtube videos and I can convert them to mp3 or what ever format apple uses right onto my hard drive.
It just feels right to have it on your shelf, to be able to smell, touch, read, and feel the awesomeness that these games represent. Being a first generation gamer (over 30 here) I've never really been much of a fanboy for anything, but I'm working on shipping the novels and a Tali figurine in right now. Yes, ME is that good. Show your support, buy ME. That will show the developers that their work is pure gold.
Its strange that ME's soundtrack is all sci-fi synth, while ME2 is more your theatrical orchestrated pieces. Both are good, I did kind of miss the originals though

@JoshuatheKodiak According to the documentaries you get on the special edition of ME1, the entire universe of mass effect was designed almost as a homage to the classic sci-fi films of the seventies and eighties. Additionally, the visual style was intended to reflect that of the slightly utopian, shiny science fiction worlds that preceded the darker ones we've seen in the past decade or so.
Just blasted through ME1 again for the first time in a year as a Vanguard, I love Saren's "Oh, SHIT!" moment when the Mako comes flying straight at him out of the sky like a goddamned missile XD
I know its been a long time, but do you know where I can find the in game version of Noveria? Seems like all there is that synth heavy track, which isnt bad, but its not what I'm looking for. And by any chance do you have it and could you upload it?
if you visit the bioware ME1 forums, some people have taken the time to convert most of the missing songs to mp3 format. Most of them are short and sweet but its nice to have them.
The song is great. It perfectly captures what is going on: you're chasing after the main baddie, he's close to completing his ultimate goal, the fate of the Galaxy rests in your decision, and the secrets of a long-dead species unravels before your very eyes.
It's tense, and enigmatic, and majestic all in one.
@Whoopster Yeah. It's dramatic without being being cliche. Sense of suspense, anticipation, and not knowing what you will face, except that it will involve Saren.
Maybe Im not patient enough. But, the Solarium (a reward from the Pinnacle Station completion) that has the music player, doesnt seem to play much music.
I think just ambient and elevator music, which was a dissapointment. It would have been nice if they made the Solarium accessable outside of the game, after you finished it, with the ability to unlock music tracks like this one.
Also if you ever saw the ending of one of the DOOM episodes where Doomguy is standing in front of a burning city with his dead rabbits head in his hand, you would really see the simularities.
I used to play Classic DOOM games years ago. One thing that stood out about this mission, and the visions of the reapers, reminded me a lot of that game. Foe one, the music sounded very familiar to a kind of techno track you would hear in Classic DOOM. Also, the environment. Apocalyptic and dead looking, those bizarre twisted statues. Also the overgrowth of alien vines all over the place, reminded me of some of the wall textures. If they make a DOOM 4, this is some insperation they should use.
Me too! It reminds me a lot of the song Rykross off of the Phantasy Star IV soundtrack (an old Sega Genesis RPG) and I bought the soundtrack and was like, "WTF? This song isn't on there but you put the CRAPPY Illos song on there?" WTF?!"
Probably because they're pretty similar. For example, the villian in Mass Effect is Saren, while the villian in Star Trek Generations is Soren :D If you like Mass Effect, I'd give Star Trek a go because you may like that too.
Definitely. I wish they would have released a two CD set, but nope, they obviously wanted to cut down on the production costs, since game composers don't seem to feel the product will sell, or their label are tough. Either way, it sucks! Love this music.
The security bunker on Ilos was kind of depressing when the prothean transmission says, "Cannot be stopped.......Cannot be stopped!!!!!" and then it cuts to static.
It was great when on one of my playthroughs that this played only in the aquaduct sequences, not in the complex. Cause of a bug or something. But this fits the aquaduct section perfectly.
Orchestra or Synth...hmm this is a hard choice for me, because both were pretty damn good.

I agree. Mass Effect humbles all of these series! :)

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Star Trek had a lot of good tunes.

Why even bring up Star Trek on a page about Mass Effect?
Valkod23 2 years ago 3
Someone mentioned it, we can talk about other soundtracks you know. Its a comment section, not Nazi Germany.
chukmaty 2 years ago
Probably because they're pretty similar. For example, the villian in Mass Effect is Saren, while the villian in Star Trek Generations is Soren :D If you like Mass Effect, I'd give Star Trek a go because you may like that too.

@OsanBlackCat5RS you are right for star trek and star gate, but star wars is still SLIGHTLY better

Why would they take this seriously awesome music out of the soundtrack?
It just rules! It has that finishing game type of feeling!

Just rushing trough hordes of Geth, just one shot at Saren and.... then you find out what's the Conduit.

Is there any way for me to download this, or for someone to send it to me? I'd pay for it but I can't find anywhere to buy it!

God it pisses me off this wasn't on the OST.... best song in the whole damn game...
Yaaka 2 years ago 2
Definitely. I wish they would have released a two CD set, but nope, they obviously wanted to cut down on the production costs, since game composers don't seem to feel the product will sell, or their label are tough. Either way, it sucks! Love this music.
KazuoKiriyama666 2 years ago 2
could i also get a copy of this please??

The security bunker on Ilos was kind of depressing when the prothean transmission says, "Cannot be stopped.......Cannot be stopped!!!!!" and then it cuts to static.

I hate it when soundtracks have missing tracks. It's always the best tracks that are missing, it's almost like they do it on purpose...
Well, seeing as how you're on a roll, you can send it to me too :)

Amazing song. This song for me was like the anthem of the game. Pure sci-fi epicness.
gamefan1980 2 years ago 5
It was great when on one of my playthroughs that this played only in the aquaduct sequences, not in the complex. Cause of a bug or something. But this fits the aquaduct section perfectly.
Thanks
