I have some recomendations. for the visor, put on an environment map, and for plasma glow, make the texture 2 on ambient and 0 everything else (except for transparency).

I also have a question. How did you do flickerng lights for the explosion?

I did them the hard way, the effect was made of a couple of different lights moving in and out in the scene.
