Ok so basically you get the glass and filter. Then you mark where it is on the table behind it. Film the water flowing in. Empty the water and do the same for the black liquid. Make sure it's shot at the same angle and distance and everything. Then overlap the video of the black liquid with the water one and overrlap it around the filter. The edit it so it looks like it's pouring in (timeing). Then you just have to tweak and fiddle with it to get it near perfect.

@CommanderUTube IT most certainly is fake. You can do this trick with chemicals. Soak the filter in one chemical, Add colorant to water, and pour the "dirty" water through the doctored filter. Voila, "clean" water. I've seen it in a children's science book my sister bought me a long time ago. It was 2 chemicals mixed in separate jars of water. Combine them and the colour becomes clear. Just a dumb science experiment.

I know I used the Masking in premiere and did two takes, one with water and one with the pepsi but it's been so long I don't remember exactly where I masked. I think I basically masked the filter and cup and I had to time the 'pours' to be the same length. You can see part of the filter wobble and the very top of it doesn't wobble.
