I loved this song when I was so much younger and in my teens... Still do.
Very nice video!
Jason lost Kate to Richard and you can hear the pain in every note of that song he wrote. It is still epic and a masterpiece. And I hope Jason found a new love. Well deserved.
@Katzenfreundin This song is from Playing with Fire, their 1989 album, years before the Radley/Ashcroft business. So, I don't know what the hell you're talking about.
You know better? I know when this was released. Richard. married Kate in 1995 but they have been together long before that. Ask Jason to make sure. For me it makes total sense. And it is a mourning song anyway.
I like the idea; the loving act of washing away dirt from another person's soiled hands, but a couple of details really annoyed me. The red-red finger nail polish and the spangly ring on the woman made her seem fake and like a prostitute. That made the sensual aspect seem cheap and dirty, which is a shame because the video comes so close to capturing the transcendental beauty if this song.
@PamelaRobnett This exactly!! The woman's hands give me the absolute creeps. It has a hardened, fake quality. The concept could be so good if the her hands were plain and honest.
@PamelaRobnett yeah maybe but, the idea is here, in my opinion no matter if she has nail polished or ring on hand, the song already speaks for itself, but understand your matter of detail (sorry if my english is not ok), and maybe she didn't want to clean up her hands after all
When I used to listen to this album, dark nights in a seedy room in suburban Birmingham twenty years ago, and this song came on after all those Sonic Boom ones ("Revolution" etc) I thought I'd been delivered, redeemed from Hell, and transported to the Isles of the Blest.
It's about smack and the wash feeling, Which becomes harder to attain as you progress . progress? Yes. My mate who died of a smack overdose once said that it's the only drug you do more of to learn less about (the drug and life). God bless you all. Wicked song. Respect
I never heard this song before, but I thought the video was a great idea. It complimented the song beautifully.
I didn't think it was too literal: The lyrics refer to water sure, but to tears, the ocean and not just washing and there's nothing about washing hands. I think the video implies something sweet about needing love, like needing help to wash, or perhaps just desiring the physicality of it. Just thought I would share that.
@doctorlilt taking into consideration the song is about not being with somebody and wanting that person back, I think that the act of washing hands could be suggestive of cleaning up past mistakes, washing away the stains of mistake/regret and desiring to start afresh. It truly is a beautiful song, with an equally beautiful video accompaniment.
@jamielittlefair i agree with your view of the song and video. maybe it's just because it relates more to me in that sense, maybe not...nevertheless, a beautiful video for a magic song!
I think it's about being in Hell. The water refers to baptism

@PamelaRobnett Keep in mind that was "the" look in the late 80s/early 90s.

I disagree. I like the nailpolish and ring as a contrast to the obvious innocent dirty hands of the guy.
