I just received my Alienware M17x R2 today (Feb 12, 2011) and the build quality is subpar at best. The LCD hinge is loose and has wobble, there are gaps on the speaker ports with light bleeding through the seems, and the bottom housing has poorly machined curves where the speakers are. I'm very disappointed. I'm hoping that Alienware will take care of these problems, because I'd hate to take my $1,949 somewhere else. Considering that Alienware is Dell's "Flagship" line, it should be flawless.

Dell fucked up Alienware! They put the biggest pricetag on the damn laptop just so Alienware can seem "sofisticated". I got a BETTER laptop for 1120$. If I wanted the same laptop I baught as an Alienware I would have gone up to 3-4.000$. And why oh why did they remove skullcap?! How about TWO options? You have your Aleminium look and Skullcap. Dell just ruined Alienware. Alienware was a great product until Dell took them over.

LOL thats a lie, first they improved the laptops quality, not cheap plastic anymore, everyone complained about the plastic so they had an idea. What about make it with anodized aluminium. They couldn't put the skull cap because its too hard to stamp a skull cap shape into aluminium... 50% price tag? lies... @phildep893 no dont get the rgb screen shit. its lame. i love mine. but the stealth mode is GAYYYYYY. never use it. the thing i hate about it is the sharp edges, i hurt myself alot when playing fps's. the circulation in my hand stops. and the speakers could be much louder. mine cost 3,000

oh it works great, i benchmarked Far Cry 2

at high settings With NO Overclocking, and the results were High FPS 67fps, average 42fps, thats the same as my big PC that has a Gforce 260 and a Quad 9650 so its really great for a laptop.

Also it plays all the newest games perfectly.

Actually no - I had the privilege of using the M17x for a few weeks and ran a lto of stress tests on it. The CPU and GPUs did not breach 80*C. I had dual GTX 280M 1GB graphics cards and the overclocked QX9300 processor (2.93GHz @ 11x).
