I generally dislike it when people cover Floyd tunes. Gilmour is the "KING of Sustain" but you nailed it dude. Props for posting a QUALITY tribute on Youtube. Keep it coming!
@dweezilmichele the thing is i dont have an imac, what i have is a macbook... ive read somewhere that you need to install external speakers, but i just want to plug my guitar in the macbook and start recording... do you think i just need the 1/8 mono to 1/4 mono cable and start recording or do i need to buy external speakers as well?
@fezzard - i'm on a macbook pro, you just need a jack adaptor (large to small), plug into your mac and start recording, maybe you'll just have to set your garageband audio preferences
@fezzard A good set of headphones will serve you well. "Cans" (the type that fit over your ears) will give you a fuller sound stage and range so you can properly hear all parts. When your recording is complete to your liking THEN you can unleash it on the masses through a stereo. =)
@dweezilmichele How did you get the audio and the video to sync together? Did you use imovie to record the video? I want to do cover videos with my macbook pro but I dont know how to record a video and use audio from garageband as the real-time audio track.
should i have my volume knob on my guitar all the way up and the amp volume halfway? or should i turn the amp up all the way and the volume knob halfway or w/e? I'm plugging into my amp then connecting my amp to my comp.
@dweezilmichele haha, i use this method too when im recording, but i usually run it through my boss GT 10 as well as other pedals, sounding great man!
Hi, I have an imac and want to start using backing tracks and recording lead guitar over them in garageband. How do you connect your guitar to the mac? Do you use a firewire audio interface or plug the guitar straight into the line in port with an adaptor?
the little slide up and down the neck at :13 lets you guys know this is NOT "fake" because thats not in the original so quit with the stupid comments and just enjoy the vid I'm sure it was posted for entertainment anyway so don't be so ignorant. RELAX and ENJOY you guys If I put up a vid you'll really hate it so be glad I don't !!! anyway GOOD JOB MAN SOUNDS PERFECT!!!!!!!!!
I agree. I find it interesting to mess around with it but definitely prefer the sound of my amp over anything. I usually use the direct out on my amp to get my desired tone.
you have to start by experimenting pretty much. It's like any other DAW software but you learn through trial and error. Garageband is really a simple software that can be mastered through continuous use. You could watch the tutorials on Apple's website but experimenting with it is more productive
A lot of people use interfaces. I, myself, have an 8 input interface that I can use for my band. However, your mac has a direct input built right into it. It is an 1/8 inch jack but you can buy an adapter (very cheap) that allows you to plug your 1/4 inch guitar cable into the 1/8 inch jack.
hey man, i used the settings in the info, but i keep getting buzz and feedback from the brittish gain amp simulation. please help. what can i do to get a nice clean sound like yours
@norbert321 hehe well i dont think its fake due to the fact that at 0:59 he plays the the root of the bend then bends it... in the song "time" the solo isnt played like that... listen to it
@walkdaddy6 You have to get an adapter from your guitar cable to your macbook/ mac... whatever you got. Then once youve done that just look around for videos on how to set it up.
its good...but when you play live you can't bring your computer on stage...i still prefer getting pedals and experimenting with sounds/orders...because it will take you farther.
My friend made a cable that connects a guitar straight to garageband. It's awesome! It doesn't need a per amp or anything, and I can use my distortion pedal with it for a great sound! P.S. he made it by splicing a normal 1/8 audio cable to a guitar cable.
How did you get such a clean tone? I have a fender strat and I can only get a semi-clean tone when it's at a really low volume which isn't really useful. Help?
the whole point is to get it pretty damn close, everyone has there own interpretation of the song and how it sounds in our minds is how we play. Don't bash on another guitarist for how he made it sound different than the original (David Gilmour)...to me it was really close and was freakin awesome. To each its own.
right. adding a bend or two doesn't destroy the solo, it is merely the artists interpretation of the song...or maybe they just thought it would sound better that way....besides, hearing it played the same way 1,000 times gets old after awhile
nice solo, what were the settings you used on garage band. I have get the effects for shino on you crazy diamond, the wall and the solo for mother but not this one, would you mind sharing that?
hey great job. as others pointed out, not only a sick job on hitting the notes themselves, but you captured the solo's essence, its soul.
btw, i'm doing a presentation tomorrow on computer-generated music and i mention garageband - your solo would be a perfect example of what someone with skill can do with that program. can you send me your garageband source file? i'll definitely credit you. :)
I don't know the solo particularly well but even with some *slightly* inaccurate bends, it was really expressive, maybe the imperfection added to its REALLNESS. anyway that was good! keept it up.
