GVW the tatra 8x8 heavy duty recovery vehicle only has a 1 ton advantage over a 20 year old hemtt platform.

@bOrInkKo This type Tatra 815-7, was made for army purposes. It has lower height so it can be transported by standard NATO planes. But it was used also as firetruck (very good one). The look of tatra was always been on "simple" side because the more simply it is the easier to repair it. And thats the first think you worry about in field.

@chasehurler actually it is more stable with full load, it decreases only acceleration. The tatra V12 biturbo engines are pretty much powerfull enough for anything. Or just pick up aircooled V8 with Euro 5 certificate. Pretty much unique truck Tatra is.

its too heavy and way too underpowered, its got about a 540hp Detroit diesel engine pushing 8 tires (when 8x8 interlock is engaged) and gets stuck in very little mud, you can pop it in low and crawl through mud upto 6 inches deep but after then you build the wall again and its stuck. if you dont believe me i have a picture of the 8x8 with the rear end buried up to the mudflaps

dont know about you guys but ive actually drove most of these when i was in the army and yes they are fully capable of everything shown here under the right conditions, but they are horrible offroad trucks, the 4x4 is fine, but the duece and a half and 5 ton (6x6 with interlocking diffs) get stuck in little mud then dig down until they hit solid ground, by then youve got a nice wall of mud and you may be able to get out by walking the front tires, but the 8x8 hemmt sucks all around
