  • @johnny1984ize bravos

  • I think the building itself is beautiful and stunning, but I'm well aware of the history behind it which is not so beautiful.

  • CASA POPORULUI ?

  • Ceausescu's Properties : ZERO.

  • i remember this.

  • @CHARIOS83,

Hope I got the events with decent accuracy. To match chosen music, I made up the palace being something Ceausescu would live in. Besides that matter of artistic license, I believe there are no other mistakes and that I captured the sense of what you remember.

Hai las-o asa ca o dam in altceva...

  • CEAUSESCU was a visionary! Even i would force myself to imagine a building so big and real so it can be built, i couldn't imagine a building like the one that Ceausescu built it on that time. It was an impressive leader. Too bad he didn't watched out.

  • @CristoofRomania I believe you wrote me in romanian... i see.... why do you like to be so stupid? What are you argues? Your insults? What are your studies? You pretend to be more evolved than others? Please, think first before insulting. Cheers!

  • I would really need a Nicolae Ceausescu in my country today... for about 10 years... To clean and level up the country wich it looks to be in no escape! The country is sold on pieces! Ceausescu was a good leader! Too bad the glory destroyed him.

  • @goldfinger17 i'm sorry..where do you live?

  • I have heard rumors that they are going to change that into a shopping mall and multi function complex. There are discussions going on at the moment. I hope that happens it would bring billions of Euros into our industry. I hope Elena Udrea keeps the idea afloat.

  • asta-i puscarie , e casa diavolului

  • the comparasion with Dracula is inappropiate. Despite of all he did, Nicolae Ceausescu remain a President who influenced Romanian history, not an american character (Dracula). It pisses me of the association of Dracula with any Romanian. By the way, in our folklore we indeed have "strigoi" and "varcolaci", but they are not vampires, more goblins :-))

  • ceausesceu, that bastard!!

  • fumeaza cenusa lu maikta

    are dreptate

  • o fumeaza pe mata asa cum a fumat-o vroe 3 uzine pe timpul lu' ceasca

  • Mare dreptate ai ! Eu locuiesc in Israel si aici se discuta mai mult ca in Romania despre puterea care am detinuto si despre revolutia din '89 si Ceausescu...

  • Why was Romania the best in so many ways? Why, from all the communist countries, Romania was standing out? Because we had the best president (you can call him dictator if you want) ever! Did you know that in 1989 Romania was the only country IN THE WORLD out of debt? ZERO! That was Ceausescu's plan (and the reason of his death) and he did it ! Romania was about to become a truly independent country. Which is unacceptable for FMI, World Bank and the capitalist superpowers!

  • jordan2104, ai perfecta dreptate.

  • And also Romania was the only communist country that refused and rejected the invasion of Czech Republic by the soviets

  • actually nobody gives a shit about the romanian debt. they washed away all the other communist countries debts, so your logic is flawed. and if only romania was out of debt, who was lending who? i mean, you can be in debt only if someone is lending you and that person isnt into debt. lol. besides, the US for instance cares more about borrowing rather than lending.

  • I'm not sure i understand what u're trying to say here but, the idea is that Romania was producing 95% of the goods people needed. The problem was that most of the things Romania was producing were exported, bringing money to the country. The things that needed to be imported (natural gas, some goods from China etc) were paid fast. So: a lot of intern production, masive exports, minimal imports = a lot of income for Romania! In 25 years -> out of any kind of debt!

  • @jordan2104 and guess who made all the gigantic debts with a completely disastrous economy planning and expensive industrial projects without any rentability, you idiot

  • Palace of Parliament is very nice....forget Pentagon, its ugly like shit

  • Can't say I favour capitalism ( the corporatocracy and all ) and also do not favour commuinism ( in its human and practical form ).

Now I agree with you about the building. I believe it is thoroughly miss-understood. The building was meant to house every institution of the government hence it's size. It was meant to represent Romania and that is why it was built almost completely out of Romanian materials by Romanian architects in a truly "modern" Romanian style.

  • actually capitalism also means that the government isn't in bed with the corporations. no country in the world is capitalist or has a free market. all are mixed markets.

  • Nobody gave a shit about Romania? Well, then why now Romania isn't producing almost anything and what is actually producing are goods made under foreign brands?! Why in 20 years we gained almost $100 billion in debt?!What happened to this money? Any highways, new schools, hospitals, better salaries, pensions?Who can explain why Romania needed all this billions from IMF and World Bank?Who is going to pay that money back? All you see in Romania is new banks and new Mall's and a lot of poor people!

  • Well, maybe right now people actually have something to eat, ya know? Or have marble for grave stones. It's called consumption. If you had connections to buy stuff without staying in queue lines for ten hours, shut the fuck up. And most of the goods we made were crap and what was good was just assembled here - like TVs for example, we were able to do only black and white ones and if you force someone to buy them, of course you'll experience profits. lol

  • Riiiight, everything was crap! Good that we have McDonalds now ! And all the artificial ingredients in everything we eat! And all the genetically modified vegetables and the delicious meat from the animals fed daily with antibiotics! It's just wonderful!!!!! Colour TV's- the most important thing for the people! I'm wasting my time here.....

  • why the fuck are you even online? i mean, ceausescu wouldn't have let you and since he was so great, why do you do it?

  • Free Romania!

    Huoo Ceausescu!

  • Hai mah ne lashi?

  • Douăzeci de ani mai târziu ...

Ceausescu revives, revine: România se sărbătoreşte.

    Trăiască Preşedintele Ceaucescu!

  • Hundreds of thousands of innocent people were imprisoned and died in "those times" . A bit of respect and understanding for the tragedy and horror they went through might be appropriate response.

The building is simply a monument to the perverted egomania of Ceausescu. Even those who were involved in the design and contruction of the building acknowledge that its an absurd, overblown, tasteless monstrosity and was a criminal waste of money and resources.

  • The regime which built this monstrosity had nothing to do with socialism or civilisation - it was a disgusting, unrepresentative, illegal dictatorship which having seized power, cheated in the 1946 elections and brutally enslaved an entire people. Hundreds of thousands of Romanians were imprisoned and died in jails and prison camps - including the infamous Danube canal project - the effects and distortions of that era will be felt for many years to come.

  • "Good architecture" !!!! You need to get out more. Its a monstrous ugly useless building - a disgusting waste of time, money and resources.

  • ou're perfectly right, it's Romanian people's house, Romanian hard labour made it look like that, and my parent's and Romanian young people's parent's money (collected from taxes) are invested in it and all our sacrificies are at its basementand tears and broken hopes and hearts so...I don't want anyone in this world saying that it's Ceausescu's house...NO, it's ROMANIAN PEOPLE'S HOUSE and that's the end of the story!

  • this video is disgusting resisdents where forced from thir homes to make way for this palace, also much of the old city was demolished. a church was moved on rollers-filmed for the west. but when the church was placed on its new resting place it fell to pieces-that bitwas not shown

  • Ceaucescu was an idiot...

  • thats why his death ... fuck communism ...

  • if ceausescu not wel be kiled iliescu died but romania vell be democratic! :) romania vas a good countri and it is greatings from russia!

  • that was bad bicouse they kiled it!

  • It was bad that he existed. and he existed because of Russia. You better shut up.

  • hehe i was inside there in 2006

  • I admit to some poetic license in presenting the Palace. However, the Dracula I am comparing Ceusescu to is Bram Stoker's modern vampire, not Vlad. The fact that Vlad the Impaler remains a hero in Romania suggests he never was Dracula. This subject is covered in the complete video, "Draculas Neighborhood".

  • It's not Ceausescu's palace, it's the people's palace. Ceusescu didn't live to see the construction done and anyway, he never wanted to live there. The building was only designed for communist party's congresses and reunions of the Adunarea Nationala (some sort of a parliament). As for calling him "a modern Dracula"... :) Vlad the Impaler would have laughed in your face and his face too. At least Vlad did a lot for his country. This poor fella here never did.
