  • Their sarcasm was way too advanced for the 80s. Stupid interviewer!!!

  • McDermott looks disgusting as a 22 yr old. Way sexier at 49!!!

  • @Chunafishy It's his stupid hair! He was quite cute... but that hair.

  • @quackadoodlydoo it probably went like this "oooh I'm going on tele, I want to look like a shit-stirrer" .... *shaves stupid balding pattern into hair*

  • legends absolute legends!!!!

  • They're such smart arses almost every answer was bullshit

  • Does Paul have his head shaved here to make it look like he's balding?

I just can't quite decide how in on the joke the presenter is here...

  • holy shit, paul mcdermott is so absurdly young in this clip!

  • It's a moment all Canberrans should be proud of... GO DA 'BRA!!! :)

  • In this footage Paul is still very much the shy catholic boy.

Especially at 7:50 to 7:57. So cute with so many double-takes!

    LOL! <3

Love the gorgeous face at 5:27. Cute little puppy dog eyes! XD

  • "Rock 'Til Dawn"? Is that a program on like a Canberra version of Briz-31?

    Love <3 Paul's wicked-cute smiles at 1:24, 2:52, and 3:34!

  • @QuirkyGirl12345 Yeah it does look like community television but it's not, that was CTC 7, Canberra's then only commercial TV station which produced some local shows such as that one (on a low budget). The station no longer exists being taken over by Channel 10 when all the TV stations, nine, seven etc finally began broadcasting into Canberra in the late 80s.

  • I have seen this many times and the lies flow out of their mouths. Boy they were one of a kind comedy band, I mean group.

  • Tim hasn't aged a bit, I think he has the one ring.

  • omg! paul hasnt changed 1 bit, but look how young richard looks... !!!!

  • Anyone notice how when he asked them to stick around thats kind of how Paul does it on Good News Week?

  • so young! so cute!

  • wow 26 years ago and paul looks practically the same :O

  • @XxSarahT8xX i know lol

  • Icon and Last Concert on iTunes! YAY!

  • The blocking is pretty bad

  • oh so young

  • I didn't think I could be more in love with these guys.

    I was wrong.

    XD

    Gorgeous x

  • Ron Cooper!!!!!!!!!!!!

I remember them on singing He's My Rambo please tell me you've got that

Really wild at Capital 7 lol

Yes Capital 7 was really wild in those days

  • Richard spent a year living in Sydney with his family in my uncle's house when he was about 12 and he and I would hang around at his place every weekend. I once accidentally pushed a plastic surfboard into his forehead while swimming in their pool and gashed his head open. He still has the scar if you look closely. He looks very much the same as I remember him in this clip, although he was a lot blonder when I knew him. I has a crush on his sister too.

  • wow, love them for everything. How cool huh? Tim was the lead singer originally not Paul, I wonder when Paul became the lead singer. They're all fantastic though ^_^

  • Oh wow... they're so little and awkward and talking complete bullshit. I love it.

  • the clueless host doesnt help either :P

  • My God, they look so YOUNG here!

  • Richard hasn't had his final growth spurt so Paul doesn't look so short standing next to him. Tim is still a giant

  • Richard: I just tag along

    Nyaw! So sweet!

  • Doug Anthony's son, haha. Paul's so fidgety and timid.

They're all so young and cute. 20, 21, 22. Wow.

Thank you so much for uploading this!

  • omg, they look so awkward! Richard still looks the same.

    XD ILY!!!

  • oh god look at Tim & Paul's hair! Oddly enough Richard's never changed to much over the years XP

  • I think they appeared on Hey Hey's Red Faces and as a guest act on the Comedy Company, but I could be wrong about the last one, just what I remember (and it was over 20 years ago now).

And to do with ages, in 1984, Paul would have been 22, Tim 21 and Richard 20. It's a bit sad that I know that!!

  • No you're right. They were on the Comedy Company.

  • Paul's voice.. So quiet..

And pre WW2 army bomber jackets with all the pins..

go Cadilac of Jesus, Paul's first song for them.

  • How do you know that?

  • I know everything..

I think it was in an interview.. Or an article, I can't remember..

  • I thought it was Tim's song. 'Cause I found a website with all these Daas guitar chords, and a little note at the top of Cadillac of Jesus said "Words - Tim". So, I just assumed. But you're probably right.

  • This is amazing, thanks for uploading it!

  • Paul looks like a chicken at 0:25

  • I love it when Tim says they can't do that much until the other two are finished at art school. They are so young, and awkward. It's very sweet,

Paul's hair is shocking. Looks like he's shaved his hairline back a couple of inches. Strange.

  • He did! Look at 5:27. Why on earth did he do that o_O

  • I love the gloves!! Hilarious! Thanks for posting.

Does anyone have their appearances on Hey Hey or The Comedy Company? I'd love to see those!!

  • They appeared on Hey Hey and The Comedy Company?

  • They performed 'Rambo' (a little-known DAAS song) on Hey Hey. I used to have a clip.

  • LOL their hair!

    brilliant

  • What is up with Paul's sideburns? It looks like he's shaved off the hair that is supposed to be connected to his sideburns...

  • Brilliant! Thank you sooo much for putitng this up.

Are you sure it's 1984 though?

  • ha that's awesome.

they all look so little. richard looks the most normal i reckon

  • That is amazing! The oldest, youngest and firstest video of Paul, Tim and Rich ever. But 1984? I didn't think they got together until 1986...

  • Definitly recorded in 1984, but I checked wikipedia to make sure I wasn't going crazy, and it confirms they started as buskers in Canberra while studying at uni in 1984 but moved to Melbourne in 1986 after they won an award at the Adelaide Fringe Festival. So 1986 is when they became more than just local Canberra identities.

  • Wow. That would make Paul like 22. And Richard only 19 or 20!

  • It comes from an old music video TV show called 'Rock til dawn' from the days when Canberra had only one commercial TV station along with the ABC. The show was pre 'Rage' and broadcast live all night, featuring local talent among the music clips. As a kid I would watch for awhile and tape from about 2am, so the DAAS' first TV appearance was at about 2.30 on a Sunday morning on a small TV station in Canberra - but you have start somewhere!

  • Wow! How fantastic. Where did this come from? Thanks so much for posting.
