@quackadoodlydoo it probably went like this "oooh I'm going on tele, I want to look like a shit-stirrer" .... *shaves stupid balding pattern into hair*
@QuirkyGirl12345 Yeah it does look like community television but it's not, that was CTC 7, Canberra's then only commercial TV station which produced some local shows such as that one (on a low budget). The station no longer exists being taken over by Channel 10 when all the TV stations, nine, seven etc finally began broadcasting into Canberra in the late 80s.
Richard spent a year living in Sydney with his family in my uncle's house when he was about 12 and he and I would hang around at his place every weekend. I once accidentally pushed a plastic surfboard into his forehead while swimming in their pool and gashed his head open. He still has the scar if you look closely. He looks very much the same as I remember him in this clip, although he was a lot blonder when I knew him. I has a crush on his sister too.
wow, love them for everything. How cool huh? Tim was the lead singer originally not Paul, I wonder when Paul became the lead singer. They're all fantastic though ^_^
I think they appeared on Hey Hey's Red Faces and as a guest act on the Comedy Company, but I could be wrong about the last one, just what I remember (and it was over 20 years ago now).
And to do with ages, in 1984, Paul would have been 22, Tim 21 and Richard 20. It's a bit sad that I know that!!
I thought it was Tim's song. 'Cause I found a website with all these Daas guitar chords, and a little note at the top of Cadillac of Jesus said "Words - Tim". So, I just assumed. But you're probably right.
Definitly recorded in 1984, but I checked wikipedia to make sure I wasn't going crazy, and it confirms they started as buskers in Canberra while studying at uni in 1984 but moved to Melbourne in 1986 after they won an award at the Adelaide Fringe Festival. So 1986 is when they became more than just local Canberra identities.
It comes from an old music video TV show called 'Rock til dawn' from the days when Canberra had only one commercial TV station along with the ABC. The show was pre 'Rage' and broadcast live all night, featuring local talent among the music clips. As a kid I would watch for awhile and tape from about 2am, so the DAAS' first TV appearance was at about 2.30 on a Sunday morning on a small TV station in Canberra - but you have start somewhere!
Their sarcasm was way too advanced for the 80s. Stupid interviewer!!!

I love it when Tim says they can't do that much until the other two are finished at art school. They are so young, and awkward. It's very sweet,
Paul's hair is shocking. Looks like he's shaved his hairline back a couple of inches. Strange.
