  • You know, there are times when I surf Youtube and get caught on the "weird side". Then there are nights, like tonight, where I surf right into a big tank of nostalgia. *sigh* I remember when I first saw this. I cried. And I cried now. Still crying a little. Damn. *sniff*

  • @fsanf164 no rofl u liar she is on my bed also u spelt her name wrong lol xDD also rexy is not with you liar.

  • what kid of illness could cause that? i thought once an illness had run its course it was done.. and that they couldn't live for long without a host.

  • As cute of a story it seems, it sucks to have been the other toys that got burned. D=

  • I remember when i was in 2nd grade anf in cgurch i had to read the story. Its one of my favorite

  • I just cried a little

  • I get just as emotional when I watch this Now as I did when I was 3 ..

  • I think this movie was the start of my OCD as a child. "The doctor said that all the bedclothes; all these things he was in contact with, must be burned. The doctor warned me (his old toy bunny) is loaded with germs. Anyone who touches it could get very sick." :( I wish I had reacted more positively to such a sweet movie.

  • (sigh) I remember this cartoon. Such a touching story.

  • This film almost made me commit suicide because how sad it is.

  • This seemed sooooo much longer when I was five. . lol

  • Me And My Mom And sister were watching this it brought back memories for her :D <3 Anyone know when it was made.

  • @bmonkiez212 1985

  • I have a toy her name is puggie she's really special people try to talk me out of toys but all I say is you just gave up on the world of toys now you are at planet drama don't even get me there it's my choice not your.

  • @TheCoolpugs puggy is with me now

  • I remember this from when I was a kid. My favorite toy back then was Rexy, he was a Jurassic Park T-Rex (officially licensed merchandise). I didn't really have many friends at all until I was a teenager so Rexy ended up being a really big part of my life. When my parents got divorced (I was 15 at the time) it hit my mom really hard, and sometimes the only thing that could stop her crying was Rexy. There's just something special about him.

I'm 19 now, and Rexy's still right here. Forever.

  • @JETZcorp Rexy is with me now

  • I had only read the book. I bought it for my wife who had a copy as a child because she had mentioned it one day. When my wife died, many of her possessions were passed on to others or sadly donated as I could no longer keep them all. I could not part with The Velveteen Rabbit and it now sits on my library shelf. Every so often I'll take it down and read it again just as she did when I gave it to her.

  • i still have my bunny & i will keep her forever

  • The rabbit reminds me of my own childhood toy. He(I will never call my teddy an it) looked like a cheap imitation of a Care Bear. He had orange fur, and a little flower on his tummy. I really loved that toy.

The left side of his body is partially burned, and my father almost threw him away, but I, at 14 (going on 15) years of age, still love him, and I still have him with me.

  • I haven't seen that for almost 20 years <3

  • @adfgfds ditto. XD

  • His parents must have been loaded

  • I still have my bunny he's like the only thing I kept from being a kid. And I still love him.

  • Thank you soo much for uploading this! It has been soo long that I have seen this. I looked everywhere for it and now its on youtube. thanks again:)

  • Best channel name ever.

  • out of all the veveteen rabbit shows i've seen, this one is by far my favorite.

  • I have this movie on vhs i got it when I was like 4yrs old now im 25 and I see it and still makes me cry!! One of my favs!!

  • Nanny: "Which is your favorite? The robot, the flying saucer...?"

Robert (looking around the room and glances at the bed; excitedly): "My bunny rabbit!"

AWW, I love how the bunny is still special to Robert and remains his favorite, even at a year later during Christmas when he gets new toys.

  • 2:43 I can't help but cry and feel sorrow when the bunny's ears hanged out after overhearing Robert's mom and maid discussing what the doctor told them to do, which is destroy everything and everything Robert came in contact with while he was ill. And since Robert loves his bunny the most and kept him near while he was sick, making the bunny contagious to others, he had to be destroyed.

    NOT FAIR!!!

  • If only all toys whom children loved could shed a tear (favorites or not) and have a fairy to rescue them, then there would be peace for children not to worry about losing special toys or fearing of forgetting the memories and love they've shared as the years roll by.

  • I loved how Velvy took care of Robert by being there when he was sick, seeing as how he is Robert's favorite toy. But I feel awful when the boy got better (I'm glad the boy was well again, but sad for Velvy). He didn't know Robert's illness got him infected with germs; he didn't do anything wrong (and neither did the other toys that were there when Robert was quarantined), so why kill him?

If Velvy's voice could have been heard by Robert, he would've immediately stop him from being destroyed.

  • @KikyoChanXD thats just sweet

  • Man, Velvy is so sweet. I teared up at the end. I always feel bad for all of the other toys though. The nursery fairy is kind of cold to let them all be burned up and just save Velvy. I know it's a cartoon, but it still makes me sad. Thanks for sharing this video, I used to watch this version religiously as a kid.

  • Poor innocent little rabbit, he wanted so much to continuing being loved (since the boy once said to his nanny that then-stuffed rabbit that it was real to him). I feel so bad, but I knew he get his chance to really be a rabbit based on the unconditional feelings Robert had for him. :')

  • If I were that fairy I'd make him not get sick and have all the live in peace I wish I grew up during that time I'm nine and all I have is crappy shows like ben 10, pokemon, and teen titans. These don't deserve to be plural nouns!

  • I have toys and I worried I stopped playing with them now I don't feel the pain this warms my heart

  • When I have kids someday, I will most definitely not make them give up their beloved toys, no matter how worn out they get. =')

  • Such a cute classic, brings me straight back. I loved this movie!

  • I can't help but feel depressed over this movie, especially here of course. Poor Robert forgetting Bunny and leaving him behind when his stupid family and maid ignores the boy's request to go back and get him.

I'd like to only remember the bunny as a real one instead of a worn-out loved toy who almost got destroyed. Robert seems so calm at that moment (even though he probably cried a lot when he came back from his trip months earlier to find his favorite toy gone).

  • @Animeforever61 Thanks, that does help a little. The past few days, I've been fearing about going through the pain again if I should ever have to rid my favorite reindeer as I did my bear. I liked to that a child who lives in the house that I had growing up might find my bear and fix him up so he could be another children's bear to love again. Does that sound silly?

  • (When Robert is sick and is given medicine): "Yuck!" (lies down on his pillow and snuggles up next to the bunny)

Rabbit: "I'd take it for you if I could."

Such a sweet bunny as him knows how much love Robert had been given to the little guy.

  • I am always sobbing now more than ever when the boy's bunny is left behind and it's so close to being destroyed. I love the ending though because the fairy saved him turning him as real and Robert sees the rabbit years later and gets to hug him one last time.

I'm not sure why I keeping wanting to wash sad scenes from any movie that deals with loneliness and abandoment.

  • Why couldn't those moronic adults just wash the poor toys and have them taken someplace to be fixed? I felt really bad when the boy tries to get the car to go back, but is ignored and later led to believe all of his toys including his special bunny rabbit were lost when he was away. Oh man, this movie made me sob so much. It makes me feel guilty for the many years of not loving my toys and letting my favorites get so worn out. ='{

  • @starrbeatlesqueen How old are you? They had no washing machines when this came out, at least not the sophisticated ones we have now. Scarlet Fever was very deadly and any chance of spreading it was likely taken very seriously. They did not have the antibiotics we have now.

  • @ObscurityMiss86 When the book came out, I mean. Not this film version. I'm sorry if my earlier comment was harsh. Just trying to set you straight.

  • @ObscurityMiss86 i thought scarlet fever was just a form of chicken pox.. one that targeted the lungs and respiratory system. my sister had it once when she was small and she survived... and shes immune to chicken pox now.

  • I miss my Huggable. After he "died", my mom said to give my toy, Snow White Bear extra special hugs (a toy from my great grandma that I used to keep close to whenever Huggie got lost). I have a reindeer (Ritchie) made of the same material as Huggie and has been my new favorite for many years (I got him when I was 2). He's very worn, but I've sewed and restuffed him so many times due to the fact I still feel guilty about Huggable.

  • My beloved bear named Huggable "died" when I was 10 or so. One day, I got mad and threw him by accident. His arm ripped off that day. Huggie had been so beat up from all the years of loving and playing with him. My mom said it was time for him to go 'cause he couldn't be fixed any longer. We had a funeral for him and buried him in an ivy patch in our backyard.

  • @starrbeatlesqueen You could use a hug *wraps my arms around you and hugs you, rubbing your back slowly to comfort you*

  • @potatoe495 I agree, I like the old movies and the old TV shows back when I was a boy, I got a lot of my favorite movies and TV shows on DVD and I watch them all the time to keep them memories closer to my heart. I miss my childhood, you could use a hug and so do I.

  • @potatoe495 If your talking about the shows that aren't like the old ones along with the movies, than your making sense. The movies and shows today are no like the old ones when we were kids, that's why we miss our childhoods, I got a lot of old favorite movies and TV shows on DVD that were back when I was little and I watch them all the time to keep those memories closer to my heart *sheads a tear* I could use a hug.

  • aaaah terrible! how dare they introduce toys with a happy attitude and then show them being BURNED!!!! >:O I never did like that... sad story.

  • I vaguely remember this. The only part I really remembered was the moment the rabbit was going to be burned. It made me so depressed.

  • I still cry when I saw this here. I felt the bunny's pain and wished that those bunny and Velveteen could still see Robert and play with him. I used to have a teddybear and one day, I accidently left it at my dad's but he'll bring him back to me. Icould really use a big hug from someone right now *cries into a pillow from nostalgia*

  • Do you realize how wonderful you are for posting this?? I have been looking for this version for YEARS. The part where the little boy wants the hug the bunny rabbit always made me cry, and about 20 or so years later, it made me cry again. I actually become irate when I realize I've found "impostor" versions of this movie. On a side note you could play a drinking game to the boy saying, "bunny rabbit" alone. :)

  • @crazysingingchick I used to own this video when I was a child but somehow it was given away. My parents have no idea what I am speaking about. LOL I'm still wanting to buy it but I thank the heavens that someone posted this up on here. I am feeling like I struck gold!! I am so happy I can cry! I also did cry while watching this video when I was younger but even now, it still pulls at my heart.

  • @Peridotfellow Yes, there is something about the fact that the boy asks to hug the "real" bunny - not realizing that it is in fact HIS toy bunny - that makes me reach for the tissue box every time. In return, Velvy finally satisfies his need to feel real to the boy (here come the tears). I want to buy this too. Now I know what to search for! :)

  • I had to wipe a tear from my eye..... this film reminds me of my childhood days.. and the great toys I had.

  • The fairy is a bitch! The other toys get ignored and left to die. What a cunt.

  • @ccipollini1984 yeah I always wondered what happened to the other toys.. but in the book they didnt get burned.

  • I watched this VHS in the 1980s and it scrambled right at the part where the rabbit was awaiting the furnace. It haunted me horribly for years. I began contemplating the inevitability of all living things' certainty of death at a young age, this cartoon was the catalyst..

  • The Voice Actress for that Fairy and Robert's Mother both sound like Teela and The Sorceress from He-Man & She-Ra.

    has anyone else noticed that?

  • @hemanshera777 Yeah, it's Linda Gary doing those voices, you're absolutely right that it's the same person who voiced Teela and the Sorceress.

  • @TServo2049 Sweeeeet. I love the Sorceress. I'm a huge He-Man fan. I wonder if there was supposed to be some symbolism there, having Linda Gary do both voices? Like the fairy represents maternal love to Velvy?? I dunno... maybe I read too much into children's specials. LOL!!

  • Oh my gosh! I remember watching this in the church nursery when i was really little (like, 3 or 4). The only scene I remembered was the part where the fairy shows up to help Velvy. I got to thinking about it today and I decided I just HAD to look for it on Youtube. Thanks soooo much for posting it!

  • I haven't seen this movie in so many years. I was so happy to find it!

  • I will be 14 next month and I want this book so badly!
