@iRtooSick yes. i bought a used 2008 se and it came with extreme basics. i eventually went out and installed my own dvd player replacing the factory radio but the interior of the car is very plasticy and cheap looking. the fridge in the dash is a good option and it comes with every model but i don't have the heated cup holders. go for a charger or something else. these were cheaply made in my opinion. although i use it alot and never gave me too much problems. it's not worth it.
I just drove a 2011 version with the new V6. The car might look like the earlier model, but otherwise, it's totally different. Handles well, nice interior, and the V6 is fantastic. With leather, the V6, and a sunroof, the car listed at $25,000, which I thought was a little high, but maybe the price will come down toward the end of the model year.
I like how it looks. It needs more power than the 4 cyl offers, however. Call it a "crap American car?" It's based on a Japanese Mitsubishi. If it's crap, that's why.

when i came back from a 15 month tour in Iraq (OIF 08-10), i bought one. i'm in germany right now and i spent alot of money while i was down there. from what i had left i thought ok, it's reasonable. it's not that bad of a car. i get smoked on the autobahn by volvo's and audi's all the time but everyone does. it is poorly made but i think more me, it is an ok car. i am waiting to go to Afghanistan so i can buy something a little better. well. that's all.
I don't understand why some people have such a bad view of this car. I've got an black 08 SXT (bought brand new) and have had NO problems with it. It's a very pretty car. Obviously it's not the fastest, but it is quick and I love driving it! Even though it's a few years old and I'm starting to see more of them, I still get compliments on it, and it still turns heads every now and then. I recommend it.

I have been looking at Avengers for a few weeks now and am thinking of buying one. The only issue is in England we only get the 2.0 & 2.4 SXT the SXT comes fully loaded but it is not that quick with a 0-60 in over 10 secs At the moment i drive a 06 MT ZT turbo about the same size but will do 0-60 in under 8 ses . But the Dodge looks good with loads of spec.
Chevy Malibu & Ford Fusion are both much better built, much nicer looking, & much more refined than this piece of shit Dodge. Except for the Charger & Challenger, Dodge engines are years behind in refinement when compared to Chevy & Ford. Dodge's 3.5 liter V6 is outdated, no wonder why the Avenger put Dodge into bankruptcy.
I'm a domestic car lover, but the Avenger doesn't stand against Nissan Altima in terms of build.

I bought the avenger and have had no problems with the car at all. The car gets great gas mileage with good power. The R/T all wheel drive car is awesome and super fast. Will smoke most stock cars on the market today including the WRX!
The WRX does the 1/4 mile in 13.5 seconds compared to 15.7 for the R/T. Two seconds is bus lengths in the 1/4 mile. Even the old WRXs would clean the R/T's clock. You must have been talking about the non turbo Subaru Impreza?
@maestroadam STI has 300hp and 300tq. The 09-10 WRX has 265/244. Even the old first gen bug eye has 227hp and runs mid 14's. Your not keeping up with anything turbocharged in even the RT.

Test drove this car and the engine feels very cheap and unrefined. The lack of continuous intake valve timing and electronically controlled throttle body means that the variable valve timing is either on or off like binary. One of its competitors is light years ahead, they make the most engines on the planet, guess who it is.

i rented this car for a while and i fell in love with it. its a smooth ride and the interior is somewhat classy. overall its a nice ride, the only downside is the power, but hey it was only an SE.
LOL this is exactly what happened with me before I got my R/T. I liked the looks, the interior and the seats. When it came time to buy a car, I was going to buy the Mazda3 or Scion tC, but I saw a good deal for the R/T and ended up getting it.
I was well aware of the mixed reviews from various websites and publications, but despite that, I still love it and find myself looking at it when its parked. No major problems after 19000 miles. Well, with regular checkups and maintenance of course.
Well, you can't really say it's way better than Toyotas or Hondas in terms of reliability and reputation. Remember, dodge has had some really bad car releases a few years back. So I wouldn't be surprised if they haven't improved as much as other manufacturers. Though I gotta say, I kinda like dodges.

Im looking into buying a car under $30,000, and looked at the mitsubitshi lancer, mazda 3, honda civic, honda fit, and this dodge avenger R/T. The one thing that catches my eye with this car, is that it has a huge engine compared to all these cars, they mostly have 2.0 L 4 cylinder engines that pump out under 200 HP, but this thing has a 3.5L 235 HP V6. but those imports are known really well on their reliablity.
bigger liter isnt always better. Thats the problem that plagues most dodges and jeeps. They always seem to have a much larger diameter engine on paper. But alot of what you find with most small jap engines are far more impressive. They make 1.8's and 2.0's that crank out alot of power. The 1.8 on the civic gets a little over 148 hp. that is excellent for a small car. i would stick with the civic or fit because you get more money back when you sell it later on. or go with the mazda 3.

The replacement cannot come soon enough. It might have some trick features like the MyGig and climate-controlled cupholder, but that doesn't make up for the subpar interior materials and coarse entry and mid-level powertrain choices.

to me the avenger looks much better than all it's competitors, and has amazing features to offer, now if that car can delivera good performance as well as reliabilty the R/T would be definitely my choice

There are good American slaoon cars. The G8 GT was awesome, and the new Taurus is pretty cool. The thing is that you are defending this car based on its performance when for the price of an RT you could buy a 2011 Mustang, WRX, SRT4, Cobalt SS, or Mazdaspeed 3.

The engine in the RT may spec decent but in reality it doesn't have the balls to play with any of these entry level rockets. Most of those cars are low 14's to high 13 second cars. Why would anyone with half a mind towards performance pick up a RT that runs mid 15's?

Granted my Mazdaspeed 3 was built in Hiroshima Japan but that is a rarity today. Do you know how many Americans Toyota and Honda employ to build cars in this country? There are outstanding performance bargains to be had from the Japanese, Koreans, and Americans (not so much Germans though) but the RT is not one of these.

The WRX does the 1/4 mile in 13.5 seconds compared to 15.7 for the R/T. Two seconds is bus lengths in the 1/4 mile. Even the old WRXs would clean the R/T's clock. You must have been talking about the non turbo Subaru Impreza?

@maestroadam STI has 300hp and 300tq. The 09-10 WRX has 265/244. Even the old first gen bug eye has 227hp and runs mid 14's. Your not keeping up with anything turbocharged in even the RT.

@apineda91 well in canada we have kilometers...my avenger sxt gets 430-450 km...in miles i think it's like 240...around there...trust me i want to bash this car so bad there are way better cars out there for the price one would have 2 pay so drivers exercise your options...the car is ok but nothing special. the mileage isnt great, the interior is horrid, and the exterior needs 2 be reformed...the back end makes me wana puke lmao

I am looking at a picture of the camry interoir, the Dodge avenger interior, and to me the look almost the same, but the camry just has that stupid little clock thing above the vents. So why are they putting the Avenger down? The camry looks just a bad.

Test drove this car and the engine feels very cheap and unrefined. The lack of continuous intake valve timing and electronically controlled throttle body means that the variable valve timing is either on or off like binary. One of its competitors is light years ahead, they make the most engines on the planet, guess who it is.

i rented this car for a while and i fell in love with it. its a smooth ride and the interior is somewhat classy. overall its a nice ride, the only downside is the power, but hey it was only an SE.
im about to purchase an R/T in a few weeks.

LOL this is exactly what happened with me before I got my R/T. I liked the looks, the interior and the seats. When it came time to buy a car, I was going to buy the Mazda3 or Scion tC, but I saw a good deal for the R/T and ended up getting it.
I was well aware of the mixed reviews from various websites and publications, but despite that, I still love it and find myself looking at it when its parked. No major problems after 19000 miles. Well, with regular checkups and maintenance of course.

Well, you can't really say it's way better than Toyotas or Hondas in terms of reliability and reputation. Remember, dodge has had some really bad car releases a few years back. So I wouldn't be surprised if they haven't improved as much as other manufacturers. Though I gotta say, I kinda like dodges.

Well, your choice - I never had a Dodge, but owned an old hyundai accent for half a year, and it was total crap. Finally I sold it, the buyer drove it for another month or so, and now it's standing around for spare parts...
Hyundai is cheap, but if you want one working hyundai, you need to buy two.......^^

In Europe you get the SXT model with VW's 2,0 liter 140 HP CRD engine and the car is cheaper than Ford Mondeo, Volvo S60 and Chevy Epica. It has most room, okay handling, very good fuel economy. I really want this car, but I want the R/T, but they don't sell that in my country :(

Im looking into buying a car under $30,000, and looked at the mitsubitshi lancer, mazda 3, honda civic, honda fit, and this dodge avenger R/T. The one thing that catches my eye with this car, is that it has a huge engine compared to all these cars, they mostly have 2.0 L 4 cylinder engines that pump out under 200 HP, but this thing has a 3.5L 235 HP V6. but those imports are known really well on their reliablity.

bigger liter isnt always better. Thats the problem that plagues most dodges and jeeps. They always seem to have a much larger diameter engine on paper. But alot of what you find with most small jap engines are far more impressive. They make 1.8's and 2.0's that crank out alot of power. The 1.8 on the civic gets a little over 148 hp. that is excellent for a small car. i would stick with the civic or fit because you get more money back when you sell it later on. or go with the mazda 3.

The replacement cannot come soon enough. It might have some trick features like the MyGig and climate-controlled cupholder, but that doesn't make up for the subpar interior materials and coarse entry and mid-level powertrain choices.
YouTube the 200C EV Concept. That's what the new Sebring should be, and what the next Avenger should be based on.

Beauty is subjective but I don't think you would find many other people who would agree. The R/T offers "performance" on par with the early 2000's but not by current standards.

@superduck714 Umm the Accord and Camry V6 both run into the mid 14's in the 1/4 mile. The Avenger is 15.5 if your lucky.
Im a car lover not an import lover (although I own one that is much faster and has more utility than the Avenger).
There are good American slaoon cars. The G8 GT was awesome, and the new Taurus is pretty cool. The thing is that you are defending this car based on its performance when for the price of an RT you could buy a 2011 Mustang, WRX, SRT4, Cobalt SS, or Mazdaspeed 3.

@superduck714 The reason is simple.It is extremely overpriced for it performance. It is jumping into a league of turbo charged 4 cylinders and high performance V6's. The engine in the RT may spec decent but in reality it doesn't have the balls to play with any of these entry level rockets. Most of those cars are low 14's to high 13 second cars. Why would anyone with half a mind towards performance pick up a RT that runs mid 15's?

@superduck714 This isn't the 1980's. Most "imports" are produced here and most GM products are produced in Mexico. So you tell me which one is the import? Granted my Mazdaspeed 3 was built in Hiroshima Japan but that is a rarity today. Do you know how many Americans Toyota and Honda employ to build cars in this country? There are outstanding performance bargains to be had from the Japanese, Koreans, and Americans (not so much Germans though) but the RT is not one of these.
