  • I like how McEnroe is always on the player's side against the umpire in these vids lol.

  • This is simply anyone going nuts? What a substandard and mediocre attempt!

  • come on, this is nothing compared to mcenroe

  • Andi Peters was a chair umpire?

  • "what were you soming?" you were right pete

  • @KnowImillian And P.S. You can have that "I know everything and you know nothing,so you can`t argue with me" attitude as long as you want, but you should know that that doesn`t make you right.

  • @KnowImillian Players learned to deal with that aggressive,serve-and-volley style of play. Look at Rafa Nadal. Your approach shot against him has to be full power,on the line if you want to go on net. Otherwise, you`re fu**ed. Federer also has insane passing shot. Novak Djokovic? Every return is 5-10cm from the base line. It`s impossible to play serve-and volley against them! How else can you explain that no one does it? No is skilled enough? No one can serve?

  • @vuk911 I mostly agree, but on the other hand the players today do not try to play "serve-and-volley" at all. I mean they should not do it permanently, because the top-players would adapt to it very quickly and pass the serve-volleyer again and again in the long run. But just to mix things up. Let's say, perhaps 10-15 net approaches per set and also sometimes S & V, especially after huge first serves. This might be a better tactic than just baseline-bashing all the time...

  • @KnowImillian Tsonga`s serves in last 3 sets were amazing, please don`t say they were "decent" just because you want to prove that Sampras had better serves... Tennis evolves,it`s natural thing, and if you think that Sampras in his best shape would have actually beaten Federer...Then you are either blind or crazy. You can`t compare players from different generations like that. I mean Pete is 10x better player then Djokovic is,but he would`ve DESTROYED Pete,10/10 matches they play.

  • @KnowImillian decent?decent??his serves were huge!huge speed,huge precision,huge precision,sampras would do even less against them

  • He's not sharing with Pete.

  • ben affleck?

  • rude comment by Sampras!!

  • Andi Peters

  • Sampras also looks a little like Tom Hanks

  • "What are you smoking there?!?!"

LMAO... That was hilarious, especially coming from a guy like Pete, who rarely ever argues a call.

  • This ended up being an epic match with what happened in the final set.

  • Bad ass Pete lool

  • He used to be the GOAT.

  • He looks like Drake. :).

  • @Phaedra2696 I too have noticed a resemblance between Sampras and Drake.

  • haha pistol pete IS the MAN

    ha "what are you smoking?"

"what u smiling at?! HUH?! is that a joke?"

    what a fucking stud

  • young sampras... looks like vinney chase from entourage ( adam grenier) soo much and sounds like him too

well the other way round seeing as sampras is the man and has been around for ages

  • its funny how people can even start to compare novak to sampras and federer makes me giggle...

  • Usually Sampras didn't do things like that, but when your sick and puking your guts out and wanting to obviously win each point and game is crucial.

  • it was kinda racist cos blacks are known in the USA as being 90% drug-addicts/ crack addicts.

  • @nguyenimproved mate, you're the one making it racist.

  • @nguyenimproved LOL....and you're known to eat wayy too much garlic.

  • that umpire looks like a monkey

  • "What are you smoking/" = going nuts, in the world of this video maker.

  • The game is different now than it was during Sampras' time. Stop comparing. Djokovic is having a remarkable season so far but the game is significantly different now than it was during the 90s.

  • CALM DOWN PETE NO NEED TO GET ALL CRAZY.

  • what are the girls under the umpire chair dong there???

  • haha i remember in the 90s when Sampras played, I thought tennis cant be played better and that he must be the greatest of all times... that was before Djokovic though, now we all learned different :) Sampras was a great player though, for that time

  • @Njzizskmp the fact that you think dajoker is better than sampras is confusing. Please explain.

  • @ilovebrandnewcarpets Do you even watch tennis? Did you watch Australian Open,Indian Wells, Dubai, Miami?

No tennis player was so dominant in the past 20 years and only McInroe and Ivan Landl have more victories in the row at the start of the season, but afer Belgrade open Djokovic will beat Lendls record....I did not mean to belittle Sampras, he was the best player of his time, but Djokovic is something else, when 5 months without defeat and still going, he will soon prove that he is goat

  • @Njzizskmp hi praise for someone who's only won 2 grand slams

  • @MmmMamaCeleste Hes got 38 wins in a row, he won all tournaments he played in this year (6), he won against Federer 4 times in a row, he won against Nadal 3 times in a row in 3 consecutive finals, hes the only player to beat Nadal on clay in over a year, hes only 2nd player in history, after McInroe, with over 35 wins in a row from the start of the season....And as I write this hes on his way to make 39th consecutive win, to beat Nadal 4th time in a row and win his 7th consecutive tourna.

  • @Njzizskmp Of course I watch tennis, if I didn't I would say something like "tennis is gay." But back to your comment- "he will soon prove that he is goat" <- this is possible. But for now he's not even goat of this generation, he has rafa and darth federer FAR above him. I believe he is having one of the best starts to a year ever this year, but how many majors does he have? That is, and will always be, the standard by which players are measured. And i must correct you, Fed is GOAT

  • @ilovebrandnewcarpets "he is having one of the best starts to a year ever" Actually, after 4 more wins it will be the best start of the year in the history of tennis... After 8 more wins he will have most victories in the row in the history of tennis... He is the only player to have beaten Nadal 4 times in a row...He played 7 tournaments this year and won all of them. He has beaten Federer 4 times in the past 4 meetings.

Djokovic is the greatest player of all times, no doubt about it

  • @Njzizskmp He is the best player in the history of tennis because of just a few months in a career? Yeah, you're an idiot.

  • @Mzee1084 No, hes the best play in the history of the tennis because all the facts I named already. Im no idiot, you're a jelous racist cunt that does not know first thing about tennis

  • @Njzizskmp How does that make me a racist? And I know a lot about tennis. I coached it for 5 years and was captain of my college team. I also have coaching licenses with the ptr and uspta. Unfortunately I blew out my shoulder with a bursitis and haven't played in over 2 years.

It takes a lot more than 2 slams till you can argue someone is the GOAT. If you knew a lot about the sport you would know this. And he lost to Federer in the semis so his streak came to an end.

  • @Mzee1084 You are right, I was wrong... I was carried away by the patriotic trance. The truth is, he needs 3 or 4 seasons as good as this in order to be called the goat. Grand Slams are not the main criteria, but if like you said, it takes a lot more then 2 in order to compete with the likes of Federer... This year hes been playing as good as Federer in his prime, yet in the most important match of his life yesterday, he lost. I think that upcoming Wimbldon will answer many questions,we'll talk

  • @Njzizskmp I like Djokovic and he is among my favorite players and I like him more than Federer and Nadal. I personally don't believe in a GOAT as the game has changed so much over the years but he could well become the greatest player of this generation if he continues to improve. I am rooting for him at Wimbledon and hope that he takes the number 1 away from Rafa.

  • @Mzee1084 Yes, I hope so too, but he had a chance to record most cosecutive wins in the history of tennis, he was not able to win against Federer who is not even in his prime any more, most important match of his life whole world was watching and he blew it, if he doesnt win the Wimboldon this year he will hardly ever be as succesfull as Federer or even Nadal...

Djokovic and Nadal are probably the greatest tennis rivals ever, but he has to prove himself by winning over Federer

  • his voice kinda sounds like roddick

  • hardly..'going nuts' is he...

  • shame players

  • "what are you smoking?" LOL

  • @SPBTsnyder Pete asked, What are u smiling at?" Not "smoking."

  • Listen again he says, what are you smoking? Then, what are you smilin at??

  • @misfitsrule10

Right. Petar Maravich is only one "Pistol Pete".

  • This is your definition of going nuts? Are YOU nuts?

  • @LetsPlayStarcraft Pete is positively apoplectic in this video!

  • @LetsPlayStarcraft ha ha ha

  • Pete Sampras had so much power on his service at the time and his volleying was impeccable, and he is THE BEST OVERHEAD SMASH HITTER OF ALL TIME UNDOUBTEDLY.

He does not get much credit because his groundstrokes broke down very easily but when his forehand was on .. wowowowowowo.

People always says Federer is a master. I am sorry to say if Federer were a part of the same generation he could not get the better of Sampras. The fucking serve hit the corners of the lines almost every serve! Lol!

  • What're you smokin' now? Huh?

    Epic.

  • He said to the umpire:"what are you smoking?"??

  • This was the match where he lost his lunch and breakfast.

  • @KnowImillian its funny you mock Nadal's serve considering how good it is now.

  • @KnowImillian you're a retard

Roger would be a match for Pete on any surface and he'd absolutely demolish him on clay.

  • Pete sure likes his buttons

  • for sampras this was going nuts.great player by the way.my childhood hero.pity he did not show emotion more often

  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this the match where he was blowing chunks at the back of the court?

  • Why the hell is Andi Peters umpiring this match?

  • Indeed no McEnroe, no coke cup went flying..

  • He's no McEnroe

  • "What're you smirking at? Hmm? What are you smiling at?!"

  • @Kekimize I think he said "what are you smoking?"

  • @GhostWritersForHire no he said: "what are you smiling?"

  • @Knowlmillain The reason for the decrease of chip and charge players must be a direct result of the courts now being alot slower. It is just too easy to pass, thats why you see the top players winning all the slams today move really well, because tou have to, it is so difficult to end the points early. You have to really hit a hard winner like Del Potro or Söderling..

  • @KnowImillian Ach... The penny's dropped.

  • @KnowImillian You must be Pete's older brother: I hear he's an even greater moron.

  • @KnowImillian How you misunderstood me... I actually hate Federer, always have. I call him the "Swiss Miss". Like Pete, he has ruined the game with his dull domination.

I never said Pete was a junk player. YOU mentioned chipping, so that's what I addressed. (Look back at what was written.)

As for Federer in the 90s, he'd have dominated even MORE back then because in the 90s there were far less complete players at the top. Today 95% of the top 20 have no major technical weaknesses.

  • @KnowImillian Chips are part of "junk tennis", as Brad Gilbert amusingly calls it. There's a reason why junk players (i.e. chip, slice and drop-shot) are no longer in large numbers as they used to be. Today you cannot chip anyone to death, not even Robredo, much less Federer. It's not a coincidence that so few serve-volley players have any major success or almost none. In 2010, if you can't kick ass on the baseline, you have no business being in the top 50.

Your affection for Pete is touching.

  • @KnowImillian Roddick was an ass for not taking advantage of a Federer who was well below par when compared to his previous Wimby performances. You're taking out one single solitary match and making that the basis of your argument?

On the baseline, Federer would have annihilated Sampras, as a volleyer he is at least as brilliant as Pete, and as for the serve, it does not play that kind of role today. So sure, Pete would have crushed him in the 2009 finale, but Novak and others too...

  • Federer might be better, but watching Pete is more fun.

    He's got style.

  • Tongue-flapping Sampras was a dull, arrogant prick even when he argued with umpires.

He later puked his guts out during the match, then beat the Spanish loser after saving a match point.

For all of you who think Federer is awful, just watch this ape hit ace after ace, the dullest number one of all time. He wouldn't have a stood a chance in today's tennis, which is far more return-orientated than it was in the boom-boom 90s.

  • @FedorEight now that's just a fallacy.

  • @wizardrac The term "fallacy" cannot be applied to a person's subjective opinion. Except if you're referring to the FACT that Pistol Pyotr barfed during that match. I should know: I was there.

  • @FedorEight oh oh, someone who is actually intelligent on here. Either way to say a man who dominated the 90's would not be a competitor in today's game is just not not believable. I agree today's game is much more return oriented and more technical than ever, but pete was an extremely aggressive player who attacked, attacked, and attacked. You cannot deny his talent when it's so obvious, he would have been great even today.

  • @wizardrac I am not denying Pete's talent, nor did I claim he'd be useless today, but as far as winning Slams? Not bloody likely.

Today, you need to have a 100% complete game - and even then it's extremely tough to win a slam.

Pete had not one but TWO major weaknesses: 1) his backhand, which was occasionally brilliant but very error-prone, 2) his poor base-line consistency which ensured that he never reached the final of the French.

His volley-game would have been punctured like a balloon...

  • @FedorEight Why don't we do the reverse and give all of todays top pros the racquets, strings, and courts of the 90s and see how they fare against Pistol Pete? As for Pete being boring, he was making his point in a collected, decent manner. It was a howler by the umpire. In my book, a lot better than whining and cussing over a few seconds delay to accept a challenge. :P

  • Pete was 100% in the wrong. He did not deserve another first serve. Follow the rules Pete.

  • ROFL : what are you smoking huh, what are you smiling at?

  • Oooooh!

  • the other player.... its Corretja right???

  • @18003333474 na the commentator during this entire vid just likes saying Corretija

  • Pete was one handsome man. How anyone thought Agassi was better looking is way beyond me.

  • He should take lessons from john mcenroe ><

  • @BrutalTechniques hahaha i lold for like 5 minutes seriously

  • these chair umpires are total, complete fuck-ups

  • @JMVEntertainment So basically you are calling them humans?

  • @HCNguyen86 did see what i wrong earlier, so the answer is hell no

  • @HCNguyen86 ...wrote

  • "What are you smokin?" hahahah.

  • Is it just me or does Sampras look fat here?

I guess it's just that TV adds 20 pounds on you or something...

  • @brassmonkeyjew it is just you.

  • hahah pete stop wining. Andre was a much better guy!

  • the fk!? I thought Corretja was Ivan Lendl for a while there!

  • ROFL "What are you smoking?"

  • @rockerman1080 "What are you smiling at?" ...but, I thought he said "smoking" too, at first. It's funnier that way.

  • That volley at the end was insane.

  • lol Pete chucks his dinner about an hour after this incident.

  • Pete was positively apopletic, in his exchange with the umpire. This demonstration makes Andy Roddick look like a choir boy LOL.

  • At 0:20 that's the ugliest woman I've ever seen in my entire life

  • Then you're just a tot in a little village that hasn't seen many women.

  • Is it just me or does he remind anyone else of Vincent Chase (Adrien Grenier) from Entourage?

Not only his looks but the way he talks as well.

  • i agree completely he resembles grenier very much

  • Not exactly "going nuts"....

  • @Ignozi For Sampras, that is going nuts.

  • @superskwrl Pretty much.

The man acted like a professional on the court, although many though he was boring because of it.

    Kept things very formal.

  • ironically, John Mcenroe was the comentator

  • What a great volley from Pistol Pete (the serve, the spilt step, the technique) he is the Main Man!!!

  • @contemplation09 yeah! he's the man!! the most dominant tennis player in the most competitive tennis era! ^^

  • @contemplation09 There's only one Pistol Pete and it aint Sampras

  • @misfitsrule10 Baseball is for idiots and degenerates. Wow. Yeah.

  • @Danielpi Apparently REAL sports aren't your strong suit. Pistol Pete Maravich, Basketball. Yeah. Wow. Who's the idiot?

  • @misfitsrule10 Well, if you think tennis isn't a "real" sport, then... you're the idiot. But I'm surprised you're so eager to point that out.

  • haha does he say"what are you smoking??"

  • this is called going nuts .. ?

  • thats cause Pete was the ultimate gentleman and this was going nuts for him.

  • this is nothing compared to john mc en roe :D

  • wow he went nuts.

  • "is this a joke?"

  • thats not really going nuts, he made valid points and was pretty calm throughout his arguement, lets be honest here pete only got riled up a little bit if he felt his was being dudded. His belief in his own ability meant he spent little time worrying about questionable decisions by umpires and line judges.

  • @raff23 for pete this was nuts. lol

  • pete was kinda dull (personality wise) but when he got angry it was fukin hilarious...

  • Pete Sampras is a cutie.

  • @somethingswicked I concur!

  • "....what are you smokin', huh" (1:54)

  • greatest server in the history of tennis

  • now hes just the GREATEST BALD-SPOT IN THE HISTORY OF TENNIS lol

  • How sweet was that forehand volley at 2:44? That's what getting used to a 14-15oz. racket can do for you. Here's a tip to all of the up and coming tournament players: Get your arm strong enough to use a heavier racker. First off, you need to be able to swing it, so you need to strengthen your arm from an early age, and also get used to playing with as heavy a racket as you can manage to play well with. It gives your ball more weight, and more pop. This volley was a perfect example.

  • @theatlantean2 fuck off cunt. look at federes arm. its not strong. u fkn clown faggot w no tennis knowledge trying to teach ppl LOL

  • Listen here swamprat, we used to stack fuck's like you five feet high in vietnam and use you as sandbags.........Secondly, Federer has a massive forearm. Next time you look, actually get your slant eyes spread out a bit (vertically) so that you can see his arm. I've been on the same court with both of them (something you obviously haven't had the privilege or abilitiy of doing), so I think I know what I'm talking about, goodchops!

  • lol i dont think i need to reply to this lol. u sound pathetic enough u 40yo loser. i bet u teach handicapped ppl at a cheap mexican resort. u have no tennis knowledge whatsoever.

  • sorry, i meant to end off my last reply with "gookchops", not "goodchops". my bad.

  • am i sposed to be offended? when a rabid dog barks at me in the street i dont get upset and bark back..similarly w ur outburst u 40 yo loser. good luck w ur job teaching retarded kids and watching tennis on tv from ppl that CAN play. those that can DO, those that cant TEACH...and u my ancient 40yo friend teach WRONGLY lol

  • yeah, i'm sure you know all about rabid dogs, lol........when i used to tour in your country, i saw dog on the menu's, lol. go back to asia, zipperhead!

  • ur advice is stupid and its a good thing u aint teaching anyone that can play. u mention ur "tennis career " an awful lot...very suspicious lol. and good backtrack on the advice there when ulanbar called u up on it. i never seen someone backtrack so hard in my laugh. i guess u know ur talking shit as well as the rest of us.

  • one thing i'm proud of is that i would never lose to an asian, lol. ever wonder why the asian community can't play past the club level? it's always baffled me. i think the best asian i've ever played was like a 5.5 level player or whatever you refer to it as in the states. michael chang was an exception to the rule, as he one the french, which was great. we have this nishikori kid. he's got game, but i'm not sure if he will be able to win anything big. not many asians play high level tennis.

  • @theatlantean2 Actually depending on the amount of time you can spend on at the gym, using a heavy racquet at a young age can actually damage your arm and maybe ruin your tennis career if you work to hard.

  • of course it has it's dangers. i wrote "play with as heavy of racket as you can. work your way up to it". don't just grab a club and hit the courts. that would be dangerous. however, using the light rackets has caused inferior strokes, which is a major cause for all of the tennis elbow and other problems people are facing today. i never remember seeing all of the tennis elbow straps back in the 70's & 80's when I was competing. Now it's a common thing, which is partly due to the light rackets.

  • @theatlantean2 actually i play with a lighter raquet and i havent had any problems with it. The type of raqet you use really depends on what kind of player you are

  • i agree, there are a lot of factors that go into how heavy of racket you should use, or are able to use. My original point was that a heavier racket will give you a heavier ball. If you hit against a guy using a 10oz racket&then he switches to a 12 oz racket, you will feel the difference in his ball. If he switches to a 14oz + racket(Sampras), you will feel an even heavier ball coming off his racket. But you need to be strong enough to use it. My original point was heavier racket = heavier ball.

  • @theatlantean2 I use a prostaff 6.0 like Sampras. damn thing is like a club when you first start using it. My forearm was huge after 2 months of 6 hour's of playing on saturdays, and another 8 during the week. When I was in college I played tennis and used to knock the rackets out of the other student's hands on my serve. My service style is like Sampras'. I've had it up to 123.11 mph.^_^ Those would be the serves that blew the rackets away. You get SOOO much spin with this racket as well.

  • @theatlantean2 When I used my cousin's Prince 115 or something like that, I'd hit the serve as fast, but it didn't cause the "damage" my prostaffs do. Others, who are "thicker" than I am (I'm tall and lanky like Sampras used to be), have tried to use them, but can't wield it very well. To heavy for them. Takes me back to the day when one douche thought he was 'all that" stood WAY up to the service line. Told him he might want to back up. Didn't listen. Fired an Ace right down the middle.....

  • @theatlantean2 .. he called it out though it was clearly on the line. I took the second serve. I showed that "hot shot" whats what. Fired another to his weak side (Backhand) and knocked the racket out of his hand. We were playing doubles, so I took it easy on his partner. (A beginner) He's used to fast serves. just not fast and HEAVY serves like the prostaff delivers. I should start playing again. I'm only 26. I have a lot of time... but also crohn's disease....

  • Comment removed

  • @thuggie77 This was meant for @somethingswicked. Sorry.

  • fuck you with you fucking blogspot u fucking freak

  • First one was in, second was out.

  • McEnroe sounds just as retarded then as he does now. God I wish he would go away.

  • Pete looks so young here: it startled me.

Also, this totally IS going nuts by his standards. They were both masters of the volley, but he and Johnny Mac sure have different personalities.

  • How long has McEnroe been commentating?

  • at least a decade...

  • ahh 90s fashion.. look at those loose comfy shirts, not just for tennis but in general that was the style. Nowadays everything has to be fitted, i am slim build but try on a "large" size and its still too narrow for my liking. I like something wider like was the norm back then. And dont get me started on loose pants... lol

  • yea he doesn't go nuts at all

  • for pete sampras he does haha

  • what are you doing? LOL

  • Bob Barker here asking you to spay/neuter your pets.

  • There should be a requirement that all umpires have to had played competitive tennis in their life. They don't need to have been professionals, but they should at least have been out on the court themselves, where they know the game. Not only the rules, but the game itself and the emotions, etc.I get so sick of the uneducated making decisions in places where they have absolutely no expertise. It's ruined tennis, especially at the junior level.

  • yeh stick to the junior level. young kids are the only ones dumb enough to take ur "ADVICE" LOL. use a heavy racket...god what a fuckwit.lol

  • @nguyenimproved Let me guess, you're an asian player that maybe plays around the 4.5 - 5.5 level, where you have aspirations of playing money events. But you've peaked due to your small size & you're frustrated. Your penis is between 3 & 5 inches, and your family owns an asain market of some sort. You're studying computers at the local junior college (since your tennis couldn't get you into any other school), and no matter how hard you work, you'll never hold a candle to even my worst player.

  • linesman judge = fail!

  • its not misleading, this is about the angriest Pete's ever gotten, he's pretty calm so this is comparatively nuts if you know sampras.

  • "what have you been smokin man" ha

  • Pete is such a calm player that this is actually "going nuts" for him.

  • That's why they introduced hawkeye.

  • Goes nuts? That's nothing. Pete looked pretty calm. You want to see going nuts? Watch John McEnroe!

  • Did you know that Sampras was born the same year as Tupac Shakur?
