It's called if I'm not mistaken the people's microphone. It's a method of communicating more effectively without a good sound system. People in the back may not hear the speaker well but they can hear the people who can and who repeat what is said.
THis was a fukkin' milestone for me personally. I was one of the original handful of occupiers that started at in front of bank of america headquarters in sf, and we've been going fairly strong ever since the seventeenth of september!
