IMHO the landing craft/barges MAY have been insufficient. in numbers, but there were plenty of other vessels. And once German troops had landed, by sea or air, we had nothing to stop them.

I have served in the Royal Engineers for nearly 8 years, i have met and known many soldiers go on to pass selection and join the SAS and SBS , only a few i have met have been Scottish and sorry there is no proof that a large majority are Scots, as information about the SAS, including nationality of SAS personel is not public knowledge, so it is impossible to claim otherwise, its complete Bollocks.

It was just a bad tactical decision by the French and a good one from the Germans. Between Humber and Falmouth, in August -Sept 1940, the disposition of RN ships was minimal. IMHO the landing craft/barges MAY have been insufficient. in numbers, but there were plenty of other vessels. Sealion was planned as a landing over 7-10 days, in an area of short crossing distance (unlike Normandy). plus, I think, airborne troops would have been used to a great extent. And once German troops had landed, by sea or air, we had nothing to stop them.

I have served in the Royal Engineers for nearly 8 years, i have met and known many soldiers go on to pass selection and join the SAS and SBS , only a few i have met have been Scottish and sorry there is no proof that a large majority are Scots, as information about the SAS, including nationality of SAS personel is not public knowledge, so it is impossible to claim otherwise, its complete Bollocks.

Reading my comment, i can see how it can be dismissed as bullshit, but what i say is true, i served in the Royal Engineers for nearly 8 years, i have known people who have passed selection from my unit and from others, some have even served for a short while and returned home, including my own. When you work with soldiers who maily serve with the Paras and Royal Marines, there are many who i have known who has gone on and serve with special forces. Officially its hush hush.

@Spark02ify Not strictly correct as the language of the Normans was not French but a patois of local Normandy dialect, Picard and Allsace with a lot of latin. Latin was spoken here anyway and was the written language. The Norman influence was not particularly dominant (or influential) and was absorbed into our "Old English" to become "Middle English" With further influences it transmogrified around the late 16th century into Early Modern English

And remember, had the evacuation not succeeded, you would have lost your army along with us loosing ours, De Gaulle would have been able to do nothing being stuck in London, no free French, No supplies to the resistance. We wouldn't have been able to carry on and you would now be speaking German. No American aid to Russia, no American involvement. All because the Maginot line failed
