They found letters on dead German soldiers who had written home to their familys saying that they wouldnt make it home alive because they were up against a fearless, superior, master of trench warfare. In WW1 Maori weren't allowed to have a gun because the British didn't want a brown person killing a white person. WW1 was mainly trench warfare.

@maoribattalion I could be wrong about that. Just remember a documentary of WW1 British veterans who told a story of being pin down by a sniper at the bottom of a cliff. Maoris were their to dig trenches armed only with shovels when one volunteered to take out the sniper so they gave him bayonet and removed the magazine and bullets. Some time later they heard a almighty scream and look up to see the soldier lift the sniper in the air on the end of the bayonet.

I grew up in the U.S no exposure to Rugby whatsoever played our football. About a year ago I seen a match on TV with the All Blacks they did the Haka I was pumped before I even knew the game.
