  • After listening to that new shit they put out, I had to return to the sound I thought fit them better.. SO much emotion in this song and its lyrics.. I see THIS as being the Mars Volta..

  • highschool. nostalgia.

  • @MrsJulesification

    good old times huh? ((;

  • Insturments start a 0:50 guys, Enjoy :P

  • @Discodudelol what they start at :40

  • Gah, now this is what I call music!

  • This is an amazing song, unfortunately I'm not a native speaker and have no clue what its about

  • @Trashboldus Don't worry, native speakers have no clue what any of these songs are about anyway.

  • I got to see them do this song live in San Diego and that night I caught the drummers stick and I used to knight my kit LOL

  • One of their most emblematic songs, in my opinion. This album is pure gold.

  • i'm gonna eat a quarter sheet of acid and listen to this song :)

  • I'll always maintain that The Mars Volta will never out-do this album. De-Loused in the Comatorium was written with a purpose: as a eulogy for Julio Venegas, a long-time friend and, ultimately, muse for their entire musical genre.

tl;dr, The Mars Volta is f**king awesome.

  • favorite band :D

  • could someone let me know of some similar songs, ps check out part 2 by minus the bear.

  • @PJBG45 ill recomend u *The Mars Volta - Since We've Been Wrong* awesome song too

  • 4 people suck lol. Jk. Good music isn't for everybody I guess.

  • This song i suposed to be about when cerpin taxt fails at killing himself with ratpoison so jumps from a bridge (i think:) )

  • @LoveHugsAndKissesx i read somewhere the album is about a friend of theirs who was in a drug induced coma and when he came out the world wasnt as good as it was in his coma state so he killed himself

    i might be wrong though

  • @meeveymisericordiam yeah he went and jumped off a bridge and this album is a story from the first song to last

  • my heart is smiling.

  • Everyone knows the last toes are always the coldest to go.

  • auto da fe order of execution (french root)

  • "One day this chalk outline will circle this city

Was he robbed of the asphalt that cushioned his face?!!" such passion

  • I'm not one to get emotional, but this song moves me every time I hear it. I feel the passion behind the song, and I'm addicted. I need more songs like this (Without the horrible tragedy behind the song for inspiration).

  • they make up some of their own words

  • auto da fe means car gives faith, because its bout a friend who comitted suicide by jumping off an overpass

  • Worst song ever in the history of music! naah just kiddin its good

  • Excellent Album, Favorite Mars Volta Album by far, It also has a very interesting story, if you want the link to it PM me, its really good, makes you understand the album and music a bit more.

  • @BxMxTxH15 "Frances the Mute" is much better

  • @BxMxTxH15 There's a interview in spanish that says the guys can't listen this record. They made it with rick roubin and they never would repeat that experience xd. Just sayin! :D my favorite album is by far amputechture. If you wanna check it out, it calls The Mars Volta VIVA LA VOZ, is the best interview that y had seen of TMV, and don't worry is in part spanish part english, fuckin cedric xd

  • @Glossolalya Wow dude, i think ive seen that interview lol

  • @Glossolalya Great Album i love Octahedron too

  • This is one of my favorite songs of all time. There is this great feeling I get every time I listen to this.

  • @Nirvana32058 this song is about a friend of theirs that died .. sad but it gets under ur skin . beautiful !!!

  • *more

  • auto-da-fé is (as said before by some), the ceremony of the burning of a "witch", done by the inquisition in the middle age. (portuguese native here)

  • @nunomoura i thought the auto-da-fe meant the reason?

  • @greatskater10 just wiki it ;)

  • @nunomoura i shall :D

  • Comment removed

  • @nunomoura auto de fe also means act of faith in spanish

  • This is a song about the singers friend committing suicide.

  • Weird random story, and i SWEAR im not a creepy emo underage kid, but this song played on my iPod while I saw a squirrel get his leg run over by a car. I was on foot on my way to work...AN EXPERIENCE, thanks to Mars Volta...it will always stick with me

  • Awesomeness

  • i swear this motherfucka sometimes sounds like he is speaking another language

  • 2 people literally had the asphalt cushion their face.

  • if we were born with our eyes closed and a song playing thatd be our reality, who's to say that's not how we live or life in this reality..

  • I can't wait to see them at Sonisphere!

  • I'm so happy they're going to be there at Sonisphere :)

  • punk

  • They are the modern day Pink Floyd ... such an amazing band..

  • i really hope they are making a new album cause i would listen the shit out if it the

the MARS VOLTA is the shit

    [ stalk the groung bitches]

  • @zephyr4619 they are

  • @zephyr4619 no shit?!

  • @zephyr4619 hell yea - "Stalk the ground"..."One day this chalk outline will circle this city"

  • wow 1 dislike :D

  • 0:00

  • stalk the ground... stalk the ground...

  • It is incredibly rare that a person or people with such an astounding command of the English language meet and form a music group. Never before, in any of the broad range of music I enjoy, have I heard such beauty and appreciation for words.

"One day this chalk outline will circle this city...

Was he robbed of the asphalt that kerchiefed his face!?"

    Speechless.

I also have to add that this upload defines the term "Quality" and is in a league of it's own. Bravo and thanks for the upload!

  • @RaidersFan2469 Not to mention, the lead singer/lyricist, Cedric comes up with a lot of their lyrics almost on the spot. Well, that's what he says.

If you have never read their story that goes with this album by the same name, then I suggest you check it out. You can Google it and read it for free.

Also, since you seem very interested in their lyrics. Apparently, they are working on a new album and actually letting Cedric take the time to sit down and write stories with absolute freedom.

  • @RaidersFan2469 i think it is "cushioned" his face. I could be wrong...I could be wrong..

  • Wow... Just wow. 1 Dislike.... This person clearly is tone deaf and is a Lil' Wayne fan...

  • I love this song. Amazing vocals, perfect harmony.

  • still TMV's best album to date. Can't wait for the flack i'll catch for this, but drugs have definitely taken their shit on the other albums.

  • @darkbrisco I actually like their other albums. tbh, I like tbig a little than this.

  • my fav. part is at 2:25

  • What a beautiful song.

  • the only made up word in this song is manupod... i haven't found what the hell that means, except to describe someone that's disabled.. two legs and a cane

  • love the song but the first minute is a waste

  • @abowlofsoda no, it isn't. it makes sense if you know the entire story of deloused in the comatorium. this song is the part in the story when cerpin taxt kills himself and the monkey sounding things in the intro are just that. they are tarsiers, which are almost extinct and are known to commit suicide when they are kept in captivity. so the intro isn't a waste, it all has to do with the concept.

  • @robbymadore Ah that explains the video then. Didn't know that.

  • WTF...? only 9049 times people watch this video ?? ... omg ... something bad is going on with the music...

  • @zachiro20 that doesn't necessairly reflect the popularity of the volta.. you'd have to add up the views from every video of this song from every channel that has it up... and even then it's only youtube lol

  • @BeholdTheExtinction Yeah. Most people would probably prefer to watch the music video. Even though some of the song is cut out. I like the full version though.

  • @zachiro20 There are other videos of this song that have been viewed a couple of million times. I sympathize with your outrage though. The Mars Volta is Sick!!

  • @zachiro20 It's called Lady Gaga.

  • Words cannot express how perfect I find this song...

  • An auto de fé was the ritual of public penance of condemned heretics and apostates that took place when the Spanish Inquisition or the Portuguese Inquisition had decided their punishment after the trial.

Auto de fé in medieval Spanish and auto de fé in Portuguese mean "act of faith".

In the popular imagination, "auto-da-fé" has come to refer to burning at the stake for heresy. (thanks to wikipedia)

  • Heard its just a made up word, which I think is pretty insane, anyone who can make a word that technically means nothing, and throw it into a song, and makes it fit perfectly, is an absolute genius by my books.

  • Damn, what a fantastic song! I've gotta get my hands on their music. Thanks for uploading.

  • perfect quality. Any one knows what Auto-da-fe mean?

  • @phoenix02200

U mean literaly? Or metaphorically ?

  • @Aitsu58 Metaphorically I know what it means literally =]

  • @phoenix02200 I know "fe" is spanish for Faith

  • @phoenix02200 i think its french for like a burning at the cross. i seem to think someone told me that once before

  • @Jowstep420 No, that's, in French, 'Un fou au le croix'.

  • @phoenix02200

Auto de fé: It's portuguese. I don't know the correct translation, but it reffers to the inquisition, about the acts they did to "purify" the sinners. Hope it helped.

  • @phoenix02200 its a turn used to describe the execution of a heretic.

  • @phoenix02200 It means Act of faith.

  • @phoenix02200 in really old spanish, like medieval times it was "an act of faith",then it was twisted during inquisitions when people were punished for supposed "heresy" paintings on auto de fe are likepeople being burned at the stake and shit

  • @phoenix02200 auto-de fe means when you believe in something despite of the logic or common sense like religious stuff.

  • @phoenix02200 " act of faith "

  • @phoenix02200 Definition of AUTO-DA-FÉ

: the ceremony for pronouncing judgment by the Inquisition which was followed by the execution of sentence by secular authorities; broadly : the burning of a heretic

  • @phoenix02200 it means "act of faith" its a term coined during the Spanish inquisition for priests or other religious officials to purge their sins to god *burned at the stake or hung mostly*

  • @phoenix02200 Auto-da-fe literally means "act of faith" in both Spanish and Portuguese. It was a public trial in the days of the Spanish Inquisition during which heretics were tried and either absolved of guilt or burned at the stake. They could be using the words to literally mean "act of faith," or they could be trying to call the barbaric ancient ritual to mind. Or both.

  • @phoenix02200

it's what you oughtn't to do but you do anyway

  • @phoenix02200

It means "burning at the stake."

  • @phoenix02200

it literally translates to "act of faith" in Portuguese and medieval Spanish. it was referring to the a self inflicted public punishment during the Spanish Inquisition.

  • Comment removed

  • @phoenix02200 i was told some years ago that it is french for getting burned at the stake

  • @phoenix02200 to burn at the stake, witches in salem

  • @phoenix02200

An auto-da-fé (also auto da fé and auto de fe) was the ritual of public penance of condemned heretics and apostates that took place when the Spanish Inquisition or the Portuguese Inquisition had decided their punishment, followed by the execution by the civil authorities of the sentences imposed. Both 'auto de fe' in medieval Spanish and 'auto da fé' in Portuguese mean "act of faith".

  • beautiful song! i played this @ the bar and the bitch of a bartender didnt like it, guess the bitch doesnt kno good music. xD

  • @scumzerox or you just performed it terribly?

  • @Coxor629 nah, it wasnt performed it was on the jukebox.. FAIL.

  • @scumzerox

Sadly most people dont appreciate Mars volta. Too much ambience and stuff for your average listeners BS hearing.

  • @edman4327 most people dont understand that music is sound. not image etc or just a catchy melody.

kinda sad the brilliance of the sounds in this album is lost on some.

  • @scumzerox to be fair, unless you were in some super hipster bar, I doubt anyone would appreciate this song. TMV doesn't make bar music lol.

  • whoa imma pop ur comment cherry :) thx for the good quality version of dis great jam :P
