I'm a big fan of the late Mr Hitch but having seen for the first time those two comments about cluster bombs and the death toll in Iraq and Afghanistan, I'm having a hard time maintaining the same level of respect for the man as I had before.
Stating that the death toll in Afghanistan and Iraq is not nearly high enough seems to me to be an incredibly flippant remark, and I find that comment about cluster bombs disturbing for the way in which he appears to enjoy it.
Perhaps he was having a particularly bad time of it when he made these comments. It's just not the type of thing I would expect from him.

Perhaps he was having a particularly bad time of it when he made these comments. It's just not the type of thing I would expect from him.
