I've also broke down and file for disability since I am actually disabled, but managed to find work where I could fit in and still be able to be a productive member of society and make a far better wage than what disability pays. It saddens me to see what our society has become. I have worked all my life basically, starting at the age of 14 working two part time jobs after school. It's a work ethic I've carried my entire life. It doesn't feel good not being able to work.

Bottom line is Congress and powers that be simply DO NOT care. They get paid for a lifetime, regardless of what they accomplish. Thanks for posting this video of how bad things really are and people being ignored. There are no jobs in Oregon. I was laid off in August 2009 when MSI left town to move to Arkansas for lower wages. No one will hire me because I use a walker due to no falt of my own being in a car accident. I hope this happens. The REAL unemployment rate here is 35-55% especially in call centers who have all moved out due to lower wages in other states and NAAFTA. Things are really really bad here in Oregon.

All of the sudden they are concerned with the deficit. They are really out of touch. If anything the unemployment is cheaper than welfare. I would not qualify for welfare anyway. I have to lose almost everything in order to qualify.

@talltom1973 I checked my claim status online and it said your inital claim has been processed please file your biweekly claim as instructed, so I talked to a UC representative and he said I cant get it cus I used up my 99wks, umm I told him I did not because I had breaks in between those 2yrs of getting off of unemployment cus I went back to work for a few months then went back on, I wasnt collecting two years straight, so Im just gonna go by what my claim status said

@secretbandmember2 I live in Pennsylvania,which has been hit pretty hard. I received 99 weeks, I did work a few weeks in January of this year. I was replacing a guy that was training to become a printer. For some reason, he decided he wanted to remain in shipping, I even asked if I could train for the job he turned down. They said no, luckily my claim was re-opened with no real delay.

@talltom1973 Thats good that your claim was re-opened even after you received the 99wks, Im sure that can still apply for me as well, but the guy I spoke too was going off on how I used my tier 4 the mail claim and he had to see if I collected 20wks, and then he told me to call back in 24hrs to find out, Im like uh the mail claim is state not Federal, this extension is for Federal..I also heard that this retroactive will just automatically be sent out to those who are eligible before a letter

@secretbandmember2 I just logged on a minute ago, I am sorry for the confusion it was 99 weeks. I was out for about 18 months. Then I found a job, of course that ended. I re-opened the existing claim, or I should say the original claim. I collected the full 99 weeks. I did mail claims, then I went to call in claims. As of three or four days ago there is no tier 5. They had two senators that were going to try. However they had little support. Now they are on Summer break.

Claim being processed means I will eventually get unemployment.. thats what I told him and I told him that I will be filing as Im instructed when I get my letter, and told him thanks and have a fucked up day

@secretbandmember2 I was lucky most of the people I have dealt with have been professional. Of course now I have exhausted my benefits, so not dealing with them anymore. I was on this automated claim system, but that changed in April, and I had to call in and speak with a live person. Actually had real long wait times, then they told me a way to just punch in my number and they will return my call, Sometimes it was a day later, that is how busy they are.

At this time, I am homeless, I moved to Houston, tx in October 2009, with hopes of finding a job. I was on my 4th tier when my extension, was cut off. If only unemployment gave me, an advance notice that my money going to be cut off, i could've made arrangments for myself. Now i here in a big city, with no family, and really no friends. I'm going to go sign the petiions, and then Pray to God, for us all.

I havent receive a letter or anything from the EDD. I dont know what my status is. I can say this, after calling, I have found out that I have no check coming. Nothing has been mailed out to me. What am I to do? Well, the EDD says.... go apply for Welfare. OMG!  Welfare? I want a job.

Wow really? Look there are no 4 tiers you can go through right now. I have just exhausted my initial claim and have not been able to move to tier 2 because without the emergency extension passing, there are no additional tiers. Good Lord people the media has it all wrong!

I have signed petitions to no avail. I am now in the process of signing up for social services/food stamps which I have never had to do in my life. I am facing eviction and losing custody of my son. I am highly educated and still unable to get a job. Regardless of the position. Employers don't even dignify you with a confirmation of receipt of your resume anymore.. All I know is that no one wants to be in this position. Unemployment is a fast track to an early heart attack, not a vacation.

I have emailed my reps and senators from Michigan about adding weeks to unemployment(Tier 5)- they are all in favor of it but this is only 3. We need everyone from all states to contact their reps and senators.

We absolutely need this Tier V bill in order to survive. This is absolutely awful that we have to go online and to the phones, faxes, etc in order to get the attention of our own government. WE need the help and now.
