first time I heard the beginning I was thinkin what a silly song..now I think this song has a very powerful message and should be used in schools to be dissected and analysed. Beautiful song.
Don't call americans dumb, its completely untrue its like saying all muslims are are terrorists, All chinese kids are good at math, jews are cheap. Just because one person doesnt know what something is doesn't mean it represents the whole.
i dont know y ppl think this is about bikes . The flobots used the idea of innocent competition to illustrate the leap from that to totalerian government .
Used the innovations we made that focus on destruction instead of help our fellow man
you are an idiot...the use of the phrase "I can ride my bike with no handlebars" is used to show the evolution of two people, showing that it starts out with simple things that anyone can do if they put their mind to it, after that, the lyrics show how one person with the opportunity, they could save the world or end it (specifically: I can end the world in a holocaust)
I hate rap! But this, is way better. A mix of rap and rock, it sends everybody a message. This is the best band ever. <3 I like they way they think, and they are so deep. <3333
It's hard to swallow the fact that dumbasses like Souljaboy are making bucks off stupidity while these guys give actual meaning to their songs but are barely known. Huge wtf.
You don't get the meaning, and what the song is all about. It's telling about how our humanity is, and how everyone in power are such pussies, and that they are always like "look at me" i can blow the crap out of this country. It is also showing how that if we continue it will "end the planet in a holocaust"....
I don't think that's quite it. Its not saying people in power aren't "pussies," or anything like that. They 're saying how people in power must know how to control themselves. I mean, look at, I can lead the nation with a microphone, its saying that this person has gained the power to influence people. This could have been for good or bad. I also think that this song is about balance, having good and evil in the world might not be ideal, but it is necessary. Just htink about that, aight.
For as long as I can remember, I've been disgusted at rap music. Look at me now, the flobots... this song! It's shown me that there is rap MUSIC. An amazing song, it really is.
It's not really rap either. Personally I view rap as the more vulgar, more random music that generally only has a beat. This is more along th lines of hip/hop. I mean, the band even has its own guitarist and drummer. Most rap artists don't have that.
I really like this Pro-American Rap. Tells the real story about today and the take over of our government by radical Socialist and Bankers. The Media Mind Control and the Alex Jones's "There's a War Going on for Your Mind is priceless! :)
This isn't pro-american, it's just the opposite, its pro the american idea (being free and friendly) and our government isn't run by radical socalists just ppl who dont care about anyone and just want to get money. Personally, i think floboat is tryin to protest the govt. and sayin that the american ppl wont let the govt ruin the "american dream" or that the more technology advances the more lust for power increases, (tech refrences get more complicated as the song goes along ie bike, phone ect
i agree with AandMPro. this rap is about real life and how hard it really can be and the consequences of decisions. not dealing drugs and banging girls
some people in the world don't know what "real" rap/hip hop is. Some Retarded Wannabe Rap artists like Lil wayne and flo rida are just posers talking about girls because they are insecure. People like Tupac, Nas, Wu-tang, and of course Flobots talk about truth, feelings, opinions. This is true rap.
agreed, the rap most people listen to is stupid as hell. Liek you said, lil wayne and all those types of artists suck, thats not rap it's an idiot rambling about girls, in a pretty offensive way too...losers, flobots are awsome.
Technically, rap is a type of music, hip hop is a culture. That said, rap is pretty much the only kind of music in hip hop, so they're interchangeable.
If you guys say you like this but hate rap... maybe you should expand your definition of rap to something beyond 50 Cent and Souja Boy.
Wow that is awesome! I heard them on MTV and bought this song on itunes, I thought they would be like many of them who sound great on a CD but then they perform live and they end up sucking. I am happy to say I was wrong...They are amazing!
I normally hate rap but this blows me away. It almost doesn't sound rap. Honestly if he never said he was a rapper in the lyrics i wouldn't have known. But something good about rap is that it always sounds good live.
Some of the first rap groups used "traditional Musical Intruments". Just look at Sugarhill Gang. They played all that themseleves. It's definitly rap.
ur thinking oif mainstream rap.... underground rap practically reveolves around classical music and traditional instruments. just listen to immortal technique. dance with the devil has all classical music in the backround.
the way i break it down is rap and hip hop have become different. rap is more conscious. like rap music talks about something significant and hip hop is just what ever the fuck the person decides to talk about. so if lil wayne wants to talk about girls and drugs let him but he's no rapper or mc he's just talking
you guys are idiots, this is rap, plain and simple.
Hip hop isnt defined by the instruments used.
If you listen to him he's rapping, thats what makes it rap.
if he was screeching at the top of his lings we'd call it screamo even if it was over a rap beat.
besides...unless your an ignorant fuckin moron who doesnt listen to any rap because "it all sucks" you would know that a lot of rappers today use guitar riffs in their songs
see, this is the rap i like. stuff that makes sense, stuff that has a purpose. all that crap on mainstream radio, talkin bout some girl or sex or drugs, all that crap has no purpose. it's just dumb
Rap never made sense to me, because I never felt like the artist connected with the music. It always felt like that they were just trying to make the Billboard top 100. When you hear music like this you understand what rap originally was..or what it should be like.
I think that this song is just about chosing the right path in life. You can either go right: live freely and just feel good, or left: make life about business and power, and get caught up in the moment... and then do something you will regret for the rest of your life. They both start out innocent, but ultimately they make their own choices and end up on opposite ends of the field, face to face.
I personally hate rap because of all its corruption and that its all like suprsoak that ho and lean with it that is all gay, now this is what i listen to. this is a song that makes perfect sense to me, i understood it the first time i heard all the way through it.
Rap stands for rhythm and poetry? Something went very wrong since then. But I don't hate rapping itself, I hate rap music because it's all so repetitive and empty. Every rap song has the same beat and it's all about girls, drugs, money, etc. People like 50cent and soulja boy don't have any passion for music or even talent, for the most part. They just want to be famous and rich. Music like this has rapping in it, which I don't mind at all, but I like it because it has more than that and a beat.
Hip-hop songs like this have more to them, they have meaning and are performed by a band playing a variety of instruments together, like how music is supposed to be. The greatest musicians of all time composed brilliant music, not some beat with meaningless words spoken really fast. It's completely different. So that's why this is different than rap.
its rap that i can actually enjoy. all music i listen to i have to like the content of too, and i could never find rap that wasnt all drugs and gang violence and getting women.
thier tunes are pretty intense and very deep meaning to 'em too, which is just freakin awesome
F that! We need positivity now more than ever in the mainstream. We can only hope the Roots and 311 blow up this summer with the Flobots and hopefully affect this next election.
There is another America. I see it everyday. It gives me a shred of hope.
ok so my interpretations of this song is that when people are younger they appreciate and are facinated that they can master simpler things that dont affect others, then coming to an age where the realize that they can use their talent to affect people in a more serious way, yet not so serious that it will affect it as a whole. Then the people find that with the right path, they can harness power that can be the equivalent to life or death. Change, pos. or neg. , depends on choices people make.
why? i hate when people think a band is better than another (of equal talent) just because they aren't mainstream. its like you want to be rewarded for knowing about a band when someone else doesn't.
i think this song is about how government leaders crave attention and as they become drunk on power they feel they can do anything that is the purpose of saying look at me so much i just had to analyse this song for a project but i could be wrong
I think that is more of the beggining being the perspective of an average man, "I can ride my bike with no handlebars. Me and my friend are a platypus, me and my friend made a comic book." - things anyone can do.
Then it moves to more political and serious issues, "I can guide a missile by satellite. I can send anyone to jail just ebcause I dont like them. I can end the world in a holocaust."
But your opinion on the Government is very true too.
mine would be : political statement. Mostly controversial. Some people in the gov. think they can do anything because of how "powerful" United States is. But the song is talking about the government in first person. They're saying "i can end the planet in a holocaust." Which in my opinion, states that if U.S. will ever collapse as an empire, they'll take down the rest of the world with them. The collapse is coming soon...
what are u talking about. firstly, this group is so much better than linkin park in terms of rapping. secondly, who the fuck cares who likes who. if a bunch of racists started liking abe lincoln would that mean we shouldn't like him?
Flobots and Linkin Park can't be compared... they're two entirely different genres. Flobots are basically entirely rap, and they're amazing at it. Linkin Park mixes rap and singing, with only a handful of fully rapped songs. =/ It doesn't seem to me that you can compare them, for that reason, nor can you say Flobots are better than Linkin Park at rapping.
I agree, this is the only type of rap that doesn't place values on sexuality, or life. It's a great political statement. My favorite part would have to be, "and I can lead a nation with a microphone, with a microphone, with a microphone..." Love them already.
In the beginning it shows how being capable of simple things(taking apart remote control, knowing about Leif Erickson, making a comic book) makes kids think that they are "all that"
Then later on it brings up major problems that different people have brought to the world due to being powerthirsty or ignorant. His voice even starts getting frantic, like all he can do now is think of more ways to broadcast his control
It shows an innocent power and transitions to a violent type of power
and notice how he raps and stuff without the song{lyrics} playin in the backround like other rappers do...this guy has some serious talent and he kinda reminds me of linkin park..the old linkin park...
All rap should be like this. Rap's not that bad, except for the fact that almost all rap is about some pimp with money, thinking they're "gangsta". Another thing is the swearing in every other sentence, thinking they're badass.
As a music teacher, I'm pretty critical of hip-hop and rap, but this song is well-written and well-performed by talented young musicians. I love the trumped solo!
Wow never heard Joe Ferrone live...awesome.

I personally hate rap because of all its corruption and that its all like suprsoak that ho and lean with it that is all gay, now this is what i listen to. this is a song that makes perfect sense to me, i understood it the first time i heard all the way through it.

rap stands for rhythm and poetry.
this is pretty much it.

88mustang88 3 years ago 4
thats what i really like about Flobots
its rap that i can actually enjoy. all music i listen to i have to like the content of too, and i could never find rap that wasnt all drugs and gang violence and getting women.
thier tunes are pretty intense and very deep meaning to 'em too, which is just freakin awesome

Its good to see someone shine above all the shitty rap music there is out there.
These guys come up with some amazing lyrics.
Sick band, I wish they werent going mainstream now though :(
tylerham978 3 years ago
Wish the WEREN'T going mainstream?

Change, pos. or neg. , depends on choices people make.

these guys were way good. It sucks that their mainstream now...
Jimbob625 3 years ago
True that. So much of the magic is taken away once everybody knows about a great band.
Faroah2 3 years ago
I definitely agree with that.
taylormangox 3 years ago
why? i hate when people think a band is better than another (of equal talent) just because they aren't mainstream. its like you want to be rewarded for knowing about a band when someone else doesn't.
hawkifootball11 3 years ago
That was well said. I hate it when people use the condescending "That's so mainstream." It's a compliment, really.

i think this song is about how government leaders crave attention and as they become drunk on power they feel they can do anything that is the purpose of saying look at me so much i just had to analyse this song for a project but i could be wrong
96blackZ 3 years ago
I think that is more of the beggining being the perspective of an average man, "I can ride my bike with no handlebars. Me and my friend are a platypus, me and my friend made a comic book." - things anyone can do.
Then it moves to more political and serious issues, "I can guide a missile by satellite. I can send anyone to jail just ebcause I dont like them. I can end the world in a holocaust."
But your opinion on the Government is very true too.
Feel free to agree/disagree with me
taylormangox 3 years ago 2
i think you are right on that was great, i had that general idea it starts out happy and carefree and then it gets deadly

sounds great live
ashhsoflyy 3 years ago
wow
there is a lot of opinions about this video...
mine would be : political statement. The collapse is coming soon...

finally a good hip hop group that doesnt use electric beats. i love how the viola sounds in this song
somexguyxyoudontknow 3 years ago 3
what are u talking about. firstly, this group is so much better than linkin park in terms of rapping. secondly, who the fuck cares who likes who. if a bunch of racists started liking abe lincoln would that mean we shouldn't like him?
thedankfranksays 3 years ago
Flobots and Linkin Park can't be compared... they're two entirely different genres. Flobots are basically entirely rap, and they're amazing at it. Linkin Park mixes rap and singing, with only a handful of fully rapped songs. =/ It doesn't seem to me that you can compare them, for that reason, nor can you say Flobots are better than Linkin Park at rapping.

I agree, this is the only type of rap that doesn't place values on sexuality, or life. It's a great political statement. My favorite part would have to be, "and I can lead a nation with a microphone, with a microphone, with a microphone..." Love them already.

this song makes me forget what I was thinking about. pure f'in genius. good stuff.
jasonflair50 3 years ago
In the beginning it shows how being capable of simple things(taking apart remote control, knowing about Leif Erickson, making a comic book) makes kids think that they are "all that"
Then later on it brings up major problems that different people have brought to the world due to being powerthirsty or ignorant. His voice even starts getting frantic, like all he can do now is think of more ways to broadcast his control
It shows an innocent power and transitions to a violent type of power

All rap should be like this. Rap's not that bad, except for the fact that almost all rap is about some pimp with money, thinking they're "gangsta". Another thing is the swearing in every other sentence, thinking they're badass.
HEYGUSY 3 years ago 4
As a music teacher, I'm pretty critical of hip-hop and rap, but this song is well-written and well-performed by talented young musicians. I love the trumped solo!
