I'm a big fun of Celtic culture and MK with years getting more and more attached toward Celtic tunes, despite his father was/is Hungarian Jew. But MK was born in Scotland, grew up in Newcastle (so he is Geordie - nickname for Newcatlers) and his heritage has more Celtic roots, as Rory did. Best wishes.

@dougpryce92 lol i feel offended for MK whenever somebody says Hendrix is the best... nobody in the world, not even joe satriani (who i would consider arguably to be the best guitarist in the world... after knopfler) knopfler has created an entirely unique sound and style of playing the guitar, and unlike every guitarist in the world he can play a song a million different way and every way is a masterpiece. the late 80s - early 90s Knopfler was really just impressive.
He is wonderfully comfortable with himself, his style, his talent and obviously his friendship with fellow musicians. His voice is still glorious, his familiar guitar "voice" so wonderfully familiar - like an old old friend to me. Love this. Thanks!

fantastic song. i love the lyrics - he has such a way of painting pictures. i'm sure that MY picture is a little different than his original vision, but that's the beauty of his ambiguity. too many songs these days are spoon fed to you - there's no room for your own interpretation. that's what i love about MK. plus the fact that not every song he writes is your cut n' dried love song. anyway, thanks for posting this vid!

Being entirely subjective, "best" his hard to define when it comes to guitarists or any form of musicianship for that matter. It all depends on what style of music, guitar style the listener prefers. It would be interesting to know who else was in that guitar list. But Knopfler is a blooming great guitarist in my opinion.

I think jade goody and pete doherty are better repesentatives of brit culture/ART than Mr. Knopfler. I hear a musical is gonna be dedicated to the PURE/suave Princess. This song, like many others written by Mark Knopfler, shows what a well educated, astute man he is: the words are a work of art, without the fantastic guitar playing, and some of the imagery is brilliant! (eg. 'something from the past comes and stares into my soul') You can tell he's a bit tense, though, in this performance, because he's got to go and talk about himself in the interview!
