  • SHHHHHOMENUCHi.

  • one thing i have always found curious about the building of katas in most japanese martial arts is the idea of switching direction to deal with attackers on different sides. If one is beset on all sides the fight will be much more confused and complicated and this excercise does not help to deal with this actual tactical situation.

  • The defender does not close the distance to any attacker in order to momentarily enlarge the distance to the others, thereby dictating the timing of the fight and allowing to deal with one assailant at a time. Even though the sword shown here is a relatively long weapon for japanese standards (odachi? nodachi?) the range of the attacks is still relatively limited and an assailant can take a lot of time to close the distance to the side or back.

  • I realise it's 'just' an excercise, and that is fine, but why mention the multiple attackers if it's just to get people to turn around and learn to flow from one position to the other without losing precision...? (which is an important exercise) These are very usefull to position multiple students in one room, but are they a serious tactical scenario to be taught as such?

  • lol the first line of the video sound like "Now the king of gay porn is gonna..."

  • @loltitapota THANK you SOOO much for pointing out^^

  • whats with all the thumbs down?

  • Nice pants :p

  • @thalia14girl its called a hakama and they're not pants ;)

  • i wanna see how would look like in a faster demo

  • lol I thought he said "suki" which means I love you in japanese.

  • @I3eam daiski! ore something like that

  • @I3eam actually it means "like". Love is "Koi" or "Ai"

  • @I3eam actually it means "like". Love is "Koi" or "Ai"

  • WHY ARE U HOLDIN' THE BLADE MAN?! UR LUCKY THATS WOOD MAN

  • lol he fights vs his fantasy^^

  • I laugh my fuking head off when I see white people trying to use swords. Look so fuking stupid.

  • @KKZReset11 While admittedly the "white" guy might look funny dressed in his Jap garb, your statement has to do with swords, which is actually quite ignorant, the Caucasians have been fighting this way for two thousand years,

    watch?v=cFGPCTMp2cw&NR=1

  • @comsunjava LOL WUT? White people love everything BUT their own fucking culture - or lack of. Pathetic.

  • @KKZReset11 It's ironic that people say white people are totally ignorant to everybody's culture, and then people like you come on here and say they love everybody else' s culture not their own.--Whats going on is that we are elite worldly intelligent minds, and your third world primitive brain doesn't understand the concept of reaching beyond ones own self to explore the world around you. You're just a primitive white hating monkey.

  • @KKZReset11 Wrong! Many people hate their own country others love it, the ones who hate it are the ones who see that the future of their dreams would reach highier places in other countries, thus hating the prison he lived in untill hes 18 or more.

If you actually have it a thought you'd realize that what you said is purely and simply ignorant and stupid.

  • @KKZReset11 You say Europeans don't have culture? El oh el.

  • @KKZReset11 I am classified as a white man but i am mixtrue of severl cultures.

  • @KKZReset11 Every single race and culture, especially Europeans and whites, have some kind of sword and a martial art to go with it. The European longsword is an especially versatile weapon.

If you're going to throw around insults, at the very least try to seem intelligent.

  • I have not watched the other videos in this series.....

The happo-giri, eight direction cutting practice, which the demonstration shown resembles in pattern (although less so in the detail) has absolutely nothing to do cutting down anybody. It is a method to stabilise the hips whilst turning correctly. It is also particularly useful for correcting incorrect shifting of weight onto the back foot when practising shiho-nage, a problem which renders that particular technique somewhat ineffective.

  • ahhhh! skeet skeet skeet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @XsebT He's saying "tsuki"

  • Hes not wearing a skirt genius do you even know what they look like cuz I know.

  • The thing with shomenuchi is that it leaves you open for a body strike. The tsuki is much harder to counter, but it seems that it would be better if you were to switch to a back stance for the thrust- or the Hirazuki technique.

  • too much. Y'all are hating on a guy that apart from arrogance speaks the truth.

i am in no way a master. but this vids teachings will get you no where.

@tubetubetube - good book for anyone to read. just be sure you have a good translation if you are not fluent in japanese.

  • swamanuchi and then skeet(:

  • how come all aikido teachers are fat lol

  • @dutchfreaker well look at those moves... would you loose weight from doing that??

  • I'm 23 years old and have yet to be defeated by a master of any level of swordsmanship. Why? Because although I study and appreciate all styles, I use none of them in particular. I was teaching advanced forms and techniques at 16, so I don't want anyone giving me lip. The Katana is the most efficient close range killing tool there is, (Even more than a gun, which fires in one direction while the sword is constantly changing angles) Such a weapon is built to ebb and flow, not chop and poke.

  • @Wiseman501 If you live in Europe I challenge you - a duel anywhere in Spain, Portugal or France. Bokken daisho. Best of 7 bouts.

I won't give you any lip

  • @belisariusorb I would take you up on that challenge in an instant were I not in the states right now... YOU would give me a challenge, and I love a good challenge, it's the only way to learn. If you ever find yourself in the U.S. look me up. Whether I win or lose I love the contest. ...I hated to sound pompus in what I said, but I'm very confident in my style and the release of tradition seems to free me.

  • @belisariusorb I'm adding you as a friend on this youtube. To ellaborate upon what I said before, it's not as if I go about swinging my sword with no thought of form, I have studied many styles and use pieces from each, but I try to be more fluid than the teacher here. You would likely beat him too. I appreciate your challenge and as I said, I accept. Although it may be some time before we can. lol.

  • @Wiseman501 Respect ... hope to meet up one day.

  • Unfortunately, though he may be an adequate swordsman, forms like these are why many people get stuck in the basics for years. I have studied more than twelve styles in my relatively short lifespan and I can proudly say that I do NOT stick to any of them. Style will get you killed. Use what works and what you know, and please... Don't go practicing your preschool kata system for too long after you learn to cut properly. It wastes time you could be using on advanced technique.

  • lol@Wiseman501

Why you bother posting all that bullshit. You realy did think someone would belive you? If you are "yet to be defeated" it is only because there is no duel anymore. Grow up and stop dreaming about been a samurai.

What a pitty to display so much arrogance at that late age. For your own good, i hope you grow more humble fast.

Also your so called "advenced technique" are the actual waste of time. For reference see Go Rin No Sho.

  • @tubetubetube dude.. you have something against the japanese culture?? if so why not watch a western cowboy movie instead?

  • You would have to be pretty fckin quick for that to actually work against more then one opponent lol

  • Im not a martial arts specialist but whats the difference with Kendo?

  • kendo is the name of the art^^

  • @techjoe040669

Kendo is the kind of education system and techniques like Judo, based on Ken-jutsu, as the sport it has some rules and matches. The spiritual training and the science of defense are the main of Aikido but some schools have the ken-jutsu, and they assume the actual combat, real Katanas, very practicable, be killed without fail. .

  • I agree Kimsoderlund. You should have a frim grip and you shouldn't push with your right hand, it does look terrible. But otherwise good vid.

  • Good vid, But just two things that kinda came to attension was that you should not push with your right hand when you strike. It makes you immobile and it just looks terrible. 2nd is to think about your hands, your fingers are all over the place. Always frim grip with you pinky and ringfinger.

But else it looked nice :)

  • And I believe I see him holding his sword in the wrong position.

At least at my dojo we learn always to hold the "line" of the sword past our body.

But maybe i just have the impression because of... all that body. *gg*

  • whos he talking about his imaginary friend? xD

  • mifune would send him home crying

  • its ski then showminitchi ppl!

  • This is not combat sword work. These are developed to use ki on the move using a bokken. Not defense or attack. Just exercise. It shouldn't be made into anything more or less. This is the first bokken kata and is basic. Come on people, don't compare this to kenjutsu or any sword school.

  • a simple side step to a straight down attack avoids it . Always cut on the diagnal

  • You losing your strong hand when bring up the katana for faster acceleration. And then put pressure on it to make the force stronger as you go down and strike. Good vid.

  • An effective block in Kenjutsu typically involves the opponent's blade sliding off the defender's. It is a redirection of energy, and actually alot of Kenjutsu and Iaijutsu schools tend to shy away from touching blades together, so in reality no handguard is needed. For example, Miyamoto Musashi used a bokuto or suburito for a majority of his duels. Bokken are designed to be balanced as it is so that isnt an issue. There are only a few instances where a tsuba is needed.

  • this would be funny in south park

    RANDOM Huh?

  • I seem it very good. Now we can catch a good teacher in every city, every country, everywere on the earth.

  • No way are you going to find a "good" teacher in every city.

  • i hope he doesnt teach classes. his form is really horrible.

he should pick up some kind of weight losing classes...

  • all he does is shit...totaly worthless. u need strength and flexibility. That stupid form will keep ur entire body open to attacks. Ull die!

  • @pimphics No, no, just "go through the moves" and all the imaginary attackers run away...

  • @pimphics He showing you tricks he not truly going to fight like that he was going to show you he would use the katana

  • he does a really shit tskui

  • That tsuki is seemed good to me.

Nobody can tsuku(spear) a tsuki by hands(arms). Everybody carries weight pointing at front by sword by feet(legs).

  • SLOW BORING and as Xralfixx said this stuff has to be one on one VIDEOS DO NOT DO A FRIGGIN THING!!!!!!!!

  • a real master such as I ... wouldnt do stupid movies like this.. The art of the sword is passed down from master to student not from Video to someone who likes to know -_-

  • That I agree. The only Video's is the do's and don'ts on Weapon handling...that's it, no more...

  • it could be used a tiny bit for minor defense. if there is a person behind u the swinging over the shoulder would help

  • @Xralfixx: Capitalism. Only the rich and only the bums, can and will do what you say there, friend.

  • That might be to you, but in the netherlands here I learn them from master to student ;) and they aren't very rich ;) the only go trough a test. If they are worthy enough to learn ;)

Still he could have done better.

For the people who think im to young to be a master because im 18... i have been doing Kung fu and Kendo since i was 5 !

Also i was trained in Japan each summer for specialisation of the samurai way of using the Katana.

  • There's a gap there, did you ask your masters about their past? I am pretty certain they have an interesting story to tell you.

And a little something to help you on your way...sometimes, the best way to prove a point is to show through merit.

  • Comment removed

  • a real master wouldn't be posting on how he is a master moron.

  • and how would you know ;)

  • your like a rock you dont move

    \

  • There is a video stating that real masters don't make video's like this... I think it applies.

  • bravo

  • Are there any dojos in American where you can learn swordsmanship?

  • hundreds dude

  • Since Aikido is a relatively new art (definately after 1860) that would make this sword work that he is doing is not a koryu style, correct?

If it's not a koryu art, then it's absolutely useless.

Aikido shouldn't have it's own sword techniques; you should leave that to Mugai Ryu, Jigen Ryu, Itto Ryu, etc.

  • you have to understand that aikido is made based on the sword so when your are doing aikido unarmed the movement are the same movements that you'll do with a sword so dont say useless .. peace!

  • Yes, and Aikido was a synthesis of many koryu.

  • Comment removed

  • I am sure Sensei was aware that when he posted on youtube he would encounter spotty little 15 year olds who dont have the brains to say anything more interesting than "aikido sucks" while wanking over cartoon women on their x box. I doubt if you made him cry you twit

  • I prefer the Korean swordfighting. Leastwise it's not stolen from other cultures!

  • you must copy martial arts to learn it doesnt belong to one race

  • yes that is correct thats why bruce lee made jet kun do mixing the best of several martial arts including boxing.......

  • I hope for your sake that was sarcasm.

  • I think O'sensei developed the real budo but thats just what i think i doesn't mean you have to belief it too but if you study any martial art you can at last show some respect but then again this is another proof that aikidokas respect all martial arts i feel sad for you and your limite very limited mind

  • okay okay, if its so dramatically to you.

aikido is wonderfull and now its ok?!

  • want to chat with singles

  • HAHAHA xDD

  • i agree

  • lame

  • great your insulting my aikido culture

  • 1) Skirts are for women

    2) What he is wearing in the video that you call a "skirt" is called a hakama which most traditional samurai would've worn

    3) The Scots did not wear "skirts" they wore kilts. Distinct difference between the two. Mostly what you wear under them but I won't go there.

  • completely useless in life

  • You shouldn't put yourself down like that.

  • Just wow.

  • They're pants.

  • it's not a skirt....

  • Actually those are very very comfortable. And the Scots wore skirts and if not for whiskey and that fact that we don't give a damn, we could have taken over the world ^_^.

  • I was only joking anyway :p

  • Lol. It's cool. I was joking too. I mean, come on... Scots could still take over the world ^_^.

  • I'm a martial artist, but I find that ignorant remark incredibly funny.

  • actualy what you think is a skirt is actualy better to move in then pants

  • Japanese...

  • Thank you sensei. I will try to imcorporate this into my bokken practice.

  • wow that was pretty... pathetic. this guy doesn't know what a cut means.

  • Maybe it's.... Hmmm.... Another language perhaps? Fucking morons.

  • LMFAO!!!!
