Thank You so much for posting this film. It is like giving water to a man dying of thirst. Given the way the world is today how I long to be in Shangri-La; Shangri-la, Avalon, Camelot, places ruled by Love and Honor, places of Eternal Spring-time when one stays young and in love forever. Again, my deepest appreciation. -DAR
Thank You so much for posting this film, I saw it when it first came out. Watching it today is like giving water to a man dying of thirst. Given the way the world is today how I long to be in Shangri La. Shangri La, Avalon, Camelot; places where Love and Honor rule and it is eternally spring-time. Again Thank You
As a little boy, I always believed and wanted to find such a place, thinking every snow-capped mountain maybe it, but to no avail.
Now as an Adult, with the way the world is now, I still want to believe it does exist. To find Shangri-la, to escape the dredges and horrors of the present, to disappear, never to be found nor to return, ever again.
I had heard a lot about this film, mostly bad, and I finally got to see it for myself. Unfortunately, I have to agree with the majority. It is bad. The songs are horrible. The acting is passable. The story is a weird mixture of anti-war propaganda and light-hearted musical which simply do not mesh very well. The characters are surface only with no depth. And yet, there is something oddly compelling about the film despite its myriad problems.
ever notice that the first word in this movie is"horus"he was the sun of god in anchient egypt, every night setwould defeat him(the sun sets)but the moon doesnt rise when horus defeats set in the morning,we say the sun rises, horus rising, get it "horizon"the gyptians did leave clues to a safe place when the shit hit the fan,but they made them very hard to figure out,so only the chosen, the meek may find it,we dont want any a holes up there.dont worry, you have 60 years to figure it out goodluck2074!
Thank you for posting. Now, it has a chance to defend itself, something it lacked before, against the accusations of it's being 'the worst musical movie of all time'.
This movie really brings back memories, I mean the 1973 version. During those days I've even memorized most of the songs, I like them especially SHARE THE JOY, I MIGHT FRIGHTEN HER, and THINGS I WILL MISS with Olivia and Sally. GREAT MOVIE, I wish I could find the DVD for this, can anyone direct me what website can I buy the DVD?

I watched this movie in San Miguel , El Salvador , Central America, back in 1976 . I didn't remember much of the movie but the scene where they see the girl turned into an old woman really impacted me then and that's all i remember clearly.
I like this movie even now as an adult many years after seeing it as a child with our family in the Philippines. It's hard to make musicals but they are more memorable than regular movies. I like the songs too.
Thanks so much for posting this. I've been dying to see this film in its entirety for years and now I finally have. And definetly worth the long wait.
I liked this movie ever since I first saw it 10 years ago on AMC (when it was commercial free). I can't see how it got canned at the box-office. A wonderful love story...wish the DVD would finally come out.
I recently saw the 1937 version of Lost Horizon. The music was horrible & I seem to have remembered a color version. Thank you for providing the 1973 clips, even though none of the scenes look familiar. I can only remember a scene where they 1st arrive being more brilliantly colored & when they try to leave how someone aged rapidly, though differently than these clips. Is there another color version?
thank you so much, i like these kind of movies, even present movies are strong technically but i like old movies they looks realistic like books not artifical with special effects.
I remember this movie when I was nine. Thought it pretty good at the time but could do with a remake. Songs are still catchy. Last of the musicals of that era. Grease came four years later.
Thanks for posting. The symbolism was interesting with Maria. She wanted to see the world for what it would give her, not for what she would learn. She lied, she paid off the porters, she manipulated others and thus she was punished for her main sin--that of vainity. There is actually a fair bit going on in this movie and in its message about human behavior.
I remember this from when I was a child. I have been searching for 20 years to show it to my children and THANK YOU very much for giveing me the chance to do this.
Enjoyed it very much! Thank you!

My mother dragged me to see this in the theater in NYC. I was 8. I must say the songs are catchy and I remember it all like it was 1973 again.

I adore the version of the title theme that plays over the credits, I wish it was on the soundtrack.
